Quotes

  • David Sorell : What about your dreams, Loey?

    Loey Wiley : Nothing

    [looks away]

David Sorell : Still having them?

Loey Wiley : No. Those are really groovy pills you gave me. I sleep great!

    David Sorell : Honest?

    Loey Wiley : Yeah, honest.

  • Loey Wiley : I'm crazy, aren't I? That's it, isn't it? Loony Loey. Sounds like the name of a volcano in Hawaii or something. Loony Loey. Well, it runs in the family, you know. I mean, my mother wasn't really all together half the time. And I guess you know Aline was kind of far out. And look at that ding-a-ling aunt Jo. See if you can take this one - she's begun coming out at night now, like she's walking in her sleep. And she stands here, and she prays! All by herself. I didn't even think she ever heard of God. And anyway, why come out here and pray? Why not pray in bed? Oh boy, everybody's nuts around here, including me.

  • Jolene Wiley : Here, darling, here's your orange juice.

    Loey Wiley : I don't want it.

Jolene Wiley : Oh, come on sweetie. It's good for you. Energy...

Loey Wiley : Look, I don't want it!

    [knocks it across the bed]

Loey Wiley : Now, will you leave me alone, you old drunk!

    Jolene Wiley : Oh, Loey.

David Sorell : She didn't mean it.

Loey Wiley : Yes I did. Stop trying to make me good, I'm not good!

Jolene Wiley : [frightened]  She sounds just like Aline.

  • David Sorell : You like her a lot, don't you?

Loey Wiley : Oh yeah, she's great. She's got this beautiful bawdy laugh, you know? Just breaks me up. I mean, you're just not the same after you know Leila. She doesn't pretend a lot of stuff, you know? Like "oh Loey, you mustn't say that, and you mustn't do that..."

David Sorell : When really that's what everybody says, and everybody does?

  • Loey Wiley : I want to know where Canute's grave is.

    Mora : He's safe, miss.

Loey Wiley : Oh yeah, sure. Where is he?

Mora : When someone dies, he forgets everything. You place a marker on his grave, and speak to him - even a dog - he will remember. He will come back, and walk the night.

Loey Wiley : Cut it out, will you, Mora? I want to know!
