When Rhonda Casto set out on March 16, 2009, for a hike with her boyfriend, her family had no idea the day would transform into a nightmare — one that ended with Casto’s lifeless body at the bottom of a steep ravine.

Casto handed their 9-month-old, Ava, to her mother that morning and she and Nichols headed off.

After a demanding evening spent bumping and grinding at The Harem Room, a weary young dancer packs up her gear and exits the club to a chorus of catcalls. She responds by whipping out a state-of-the-art shotgun and laying waste to not only to the would-be lotharios but a good section of Hollywood Boulevard. It’s an amazing trajectory: Leilu the dog went from being abandoned in a box outside a dog meat farm in South Korea to the loving arms of 11-year-old Izabella Cantu from Ashland, Oregon.
It happened because Cantu heard about the Korean dog meat trade and wanted to help, according to Kobi 5 News, who reported the story.
The youngster raised around $500 for Guardian’s International, a New York-based nonprofit that works with rescues on the ground in South Korea to save pups in dog meat farms. Instead of birthday gifts, Cantu asked friends and family to donate to the charity.

Nobody expected those wronged by Edm conglomerate SFX Entertainment to pull any punches just because the company is in the middle of chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, but the latest developments sure add insult to injury anyways. As a means of collecting a delinquent debt, Dutch promotional company Alda Events has seized commanding shares of SFX Europe, ID&T and Sensation Brazil.
Last month, rumors of ID&T’s relaunch in the Netherlands suggested that SFX would soon relinquish ownership of the company – but not as a result of the same auction process carried out for assets like Beatport, Flavorus and Fame House. However, only close insiders could have imagined that SFX would begrudgingly lose the brand to another one of the companies it had originally sought to acquire.

In a follow-up blog post, Morrissey explained Tuesday that his official complaint to the Transportation Security Administration, regarding an alleged sexual-assault incident from earlier this year, has essentially been ignored. The update is not very full of details, but it is very full of color — some instances of which might have been better left unsaid, as they abruptly transition from understandable frustration to cockamamy jabs. "We gather that Tsa stands for Thorough Sexual Assault," Morrissey commented, according to his fanzine, True to You, which frequently serves as the singer's mouthpiece. "If you are traveling through San Francisco International Airport you must be ready for a full sexual attack by people who claim to have your interests at heart. It is unlikely that Isis would stoop so low."Regarding the July incident, the Tsa had commented: "Tsa takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and strives to treat every passenger with dignity...

In a new blog post, Morrissey says he was sexually assaulted on Monday by airport security at San Francisco International Airport before a flight to London. After proceeding through the scanner with no issue, Morrissey says he was stopped by someone identified as the "general manager on duty" who "crouched before me and groped my penis and testicles." Morrissey says the two members of the British Airways Special Services he was traveling with at the time (and who witnessed the assault) urged him to file a complaint. Despite doing so, Morrissey says he expects his complaint to go either unread or ignored and warns that, if you travel through the San Franscisco International Airport, "expect sexual abuse from the so-called 'security officers' who, we are unconvincingly warned, are acting only for our security."Read Morrissey's full post about the assault below: On leaving the Us on 27 July I flew from...

Artist Lauren Dicioccio uses a needle and thread to memorialize news articles, perserving the black and white images of The New York Times via multi-colored stitches. She embroiders snapshots of Hillary Clinton and Lady Gaga in her series "sewnnews" -- a palindrome paying tribute to the familiar touch and smell of the printed page.
"I wanted to make work that celebrated the newspaper as an object and a physical presence in our lives that perhaps would not be around much longer," Dicioccio wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. "I felt that using materials and a method derived from craft was the most appropriate medium -- hand-embroidery on cloth is so evocative of the human spirit, it represents time and care and tactility in a special way that suited perfectly my feelings about the newspaper."

It’s true; no matter what certain networks may claim about their “winter finales,” winter doesn’t actually start until December 21, and isn’t over until March 20. Syfy, at least, understands this, and has announced their appropriately-titled winter schedule accordingly.
Happily this means that, starting on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will have some great television to get us through the cold months, including the return of Being Human and Lost Girl, and the premiere of Continuum, and later in the week, the return of Ghost Hunters and Face Off.
Here’s the schedule of premieres, along with series synopses:
Syfy’S 2013 Winter Programming Highlighted By Series Premieres Of Ghost Mine, Robot Combat League, Stranded And Continuum Season Returns Of Hits Being Human, Face Off, Total Blackout, Ghost Hunters, Lost Girl, Haunted Collector And Final Season Of Merlin

There is really only one place to begin – The Dawn of Man. A montage of prehistoric images denotes the timeless passage of the years and decades, aeons before such concepts existed in the human imagination, as a collection of our simian cousins shelter from the elements, from rival clans and from the lethal predators, a scrabble for sustenance amongst the arid African veldt. One morning the troop awakes to discover that a ominous, obsidian black monolith has appeared in their midst, its presence signalling a terrified rage amongst our forebears, a suspicion of the unknown and incomprehensible. Through association, through a mental leap mirrored in the films narrative we make the association that this mysterious object has ignited a flash of inspiration in one ape, our distant ancestor whom...
