One of the best game shows in TV History. Hosted by the classy and legendary professional Bob Barker!
blanbrn15 June 2007
Come on Down, but need I say more this is a long running TV classic that millions of Americans loved each and everyday! So good you have a loud and cheering audience and contestants are selected to make bids on prices of showcase items for then a chance to compete at higher prices and win big money! And many of the games and items shown are tough, but it's so interesting to try and price items. Bob Barker always made it watchable, he's a legend so classy and professional his voice and hosting is classic he was such a hard worker for so many years. A final note the showcase models were fantastic to watch also it made the male viewer take his eye and mind off the prizes for awhile at least especially when the screen showed sexy beauties Nikki Ziering or Dian Parkinson. Really a daytime TV legendary classic!

Good game show
mattkratz1 December 2022
This is a fun game show to watch as contestants try to guess prices on merchandise, bid to get up on stage, and play various games. My favorite games include Cliffhangers, Gas Money, Carey's Car Club, Plinko, and Hole in One. It is fun to watch the models and host interact with the contestants and the contestants play the games. Bob Barker had to be a tough act to follow as host since he did it for so long and pretty much reached legendary status, but Drew Carey pretty much holds his own and does a good job. The phrase "Come on down!" has become legendary as well. Overall not a bad way to spend an hour watching television.

Maybe I'm old school, but...
aeowen-0339822 April 2019
...the show got seriously ruined the day Drew Carey took over from Bob Barker.

Yes, Bob is The Price is Right! I used to watch this all through my summer vacations (until I was in 7th grade) and would never miss it each day at 11am on CBS. My own favorite years were from 1972 to 1979, but much changed after 1980 - my favorite games were Plinko (of course), Cliffhanger, and Any Number. Bob made it real, while Drew is just too damn serious. He is not that funny at all. Bob had zing and zip while Drew just seems like he just does the show as if it were a burden or chore to appear on stage. I could go on, but I'm sure you get where I'm going.

Finally, if Bob makes it to 100 years old in December 2023, Drew better be damn serious and bring Bob on to host one last time for his birthday!

See, told you I was old school!

An Institution
Sargebri9 September 2003
After over thirty years on the air, this I think it is right to call this show an institution. The Price Is Right is one of the few shows on television that is loved by young and old alike and that can be attributed to Bob Barker and the production staff who have done everything over the years to keep it fresh and innovative as well as exciting for the viewers. This is truly one show that I am proud to say that I grew up with.

Won't Be the Same Without You, Bob!
Sylviastel13 May 2007
I can't imagine anybody else than Bob Barker hosting the Price is Right. After all, he has been hosting for decades. Now in his youthful eighties, he is retiring. No longer will he be the game show host or retired. The game show is based on the normal people, randomly chosen by the show's announcer to come on down to be one of the four bidders. Once you win the closest bid to the item, you win the item and get on stage with Bob Barker which must be a thrill in itself. If you're lucky, you make it to the final round and get a chance to bid on possibly a new car, expensive vacations, etc. You can win both showcases if bid under a hundred dollars on your showcase. The show won't be the same without him. He's the heart and soul of the show. They named the studios after him. Nobody could fill Bob Barker's spot now or never!

Next Host Calling- One More Emmy For Bob
DKosty12316 December 2006
Time has robbed us of the greatest TV game show host - of course I mean Bob Barker. Yes, he has retired while he is still young at heart to all of us TPIR fans. He is a good piece of the reason this show is so successful. His off-beat sense of humor always comes through- imagine Rosie O'Donnell to replace him? Bob is still toying with us. Now I heard my old buddy Drew Carey might be the guy. I hope so, Drew would be good as long as Mimi(from his old show) isn't a new model.

People, namely audience & contestants are the rest of the reason. It is watching these people & their reactions when they win that makes this show a success too. This show has a formula that never goes stale. The audience is always diverse & have a special magic created only by the camping on the sidewalk outside CBS.

Bob Barkers job is as close to a real Santa Claus as you can get. In the last few years, the rotating models formula has proved that all you need from the models is to look good. The announcers are now numerous during the shows run- from Olsen to Proddy to Burton & now to Rich.

After attending two tapings, live, the show is done just as quickly as it airs on television, only during the breaks Bob talks with the audience taking on all questions. There were no re-takes by Bob when I finally saw him live as he is really smooth & professional. The production team is amazing & very professional & courteous to everybody.

After 35 years, the show is still a joy because we like to watch happy people & enjoy Bob Barker. I am ready to replace him, & I am a little younger. I'd love to be a real life Santa Claus too. CBS has been kind enough to review my offer, but since I have kept my talents well hidden, they have turned me down.

I have been accidentally honored by CBS as Drew Careys first show airs on my birthday.

I went to Hollywood during May & was on camera May 31st. Even though it is nice there the Price sets are looking pretty worn. I'd want a new studio, sets & move the show closer to my home town if I hosted. Visit my original home town in my review of the movie "Saratoga Trunk" here on IMDb.

Thank you CBS, Drew Careys debut as host is on my birthday, October 15, 2007 on air. Good Luck Drew, you beat me out of this job fair & square.

My new show closing to replace Bob Barker is : "Help control the political population, have all your politicians spayed or neutered, Good bye everybody!"

Fun game show
First off, I must say that this is a fun game show. Also, since I am 24, I haven't seen every episode. However, since I have been watching for as long as I can remember, I do know the show very well. Every time I watch it, I have a lot of fun playing along and watching. This makes me long to be a contestant. The things I like most about it are Bob Barker, his occasional jokes, and the games. If anyone replaced Bob Barker, I would be really sad. When it goes off the air, I hope some network brings it back so I can play along and watch again. If that happens, I will be really happy. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that I'll always remember this show in my memory forever. Now, in conclusion, I hope that you catch it one day before it goes off the air for good.

Great show; Bob IS the President of Game Show Land!!!!! LOL
sethn17213 September 2006
I just said that because this show is turning 35 soon!!!!! (in terms of seasons)

"The Price Is Right" is the famous remake of the 1950s show. It's a big, colorful, bright show where, unlike many other shows, audience members are called on down to stand in Contestant's Row to bid on prizes, and the closest to the A.R.P. without going over will not only claim the prize, but come on up to play a pricing game!!!!!

My favorite game is "Plinko;" just about everyone wins something from this game (except for one time, which I heard about but didn't see, thank goodness); it's fun, and it's simple!!!!! If I were on, I would SO want to play "Plinko!!!!!"

There's a big wheel to determine who gets to play the Showcase Showdown, and we bid on either an exciting showcase or a boring old "Splendido" furniture package. (NOT !!!!! LOL)

"TPiR" is the most successful of the CBS shows, right there with "Family Feud" and "Match Game!!!!!"

Theme song so great
moivieFan11 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I used to watch The price is right as a kid years ago. And I still think the price is right theme song is great. it brings me back to my youth.. The theme song is so good its worth watching the New Rice is right only to hear the song.

I think drew Carey is OK. What I like about the show is seeing if people can guess the price of an item to get up on stage with Drew for a chance to play. Its fun to try to guess the price of an item.

I also enjoy the games that people play once they are up on stage with Drew. Entertaining.

Every contestant is so enthusiastic and usually they have on colorful outfits.

Its a fun game show to watch.

Out With The Old And In With The New
Camelot_20005 April 2016
I admit I've been a devout viewer of this show ever since I was a little kid. Bob Barker and his original "Barker's Beauties" always seemed to withstand the weather of time and kept on going no matter how long the clock ticked, just like the "Energizer Rabbit". The decades passed and there they still were. Did the Price is Right change during that long hour glass journey? No, not until a long time afterwards. Their cars went from 1970s Corvettes to the latest Dodge Vipers, lavishly displaying how prizes and prices drastically changed, but how the show didn't.

The rouse of excitement this show always incited was a major draw for me. It's enthusiastic audience reaction and it's loud carnival atmosphere really drew my interest. There were a lot of record breaking wins and unexpected surprises sometimes. The show seemed to have an enthusiastic potential that apparently wouldn't end.

I admit I'd eagerly watch sometimes, but would later lose interest only to be drawn back into it again a few years later. There they still were - Bob Barker and his "beauties".

I admit Bob is never one to be tired of, but it was tiring seeing the models Janice, Diane and Holly constantly raising their arms for an eternity to introduce the latest prizes. It was time for new faces when those models exhausted their endlessly long run. They were near senior citizen age by that time and went on longer than they should have. They remained gorgeous beauties though.

I think Drew is the perfect host after Bob with his chronic cheerful disposition and constant wit. The new models too brought a refreshing feel to the show. I'll always be a fan of TPIR and the "happy wealth" it so happily delivers, but times change and so should those who are on it after a certain period. I love it.

Are they getting cheap lately ?
stevencampbell-6800923 June 2021
It seems to me that most of the cars they have are some of the cheapest on the market that most people have no plans on buying anyway.. I think if they show one more Chevy spark I am going to puck ..if a Kia rolls out jump on it as consumer reports gives them good reviews so either there just cheaper then ever(CBS) or they don't have the advertisement budget they had before....please stop the spark giveaways...

One Of the Best Game Shows
AngelHonesty9 January 2020
If your a fan of game shows I would have to say this is one of the best out there. As a kid who hung out a lot with my great grandma, I was forced to watch a lot of game shows. This one had lots of interesting games; down to earth subjects such as guessing the prices of stuff. It also has an amazing host.

Bob Barker era, fantastic. Drew Carey era, meh
jfgavina25 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
During the Bob Barker era, the show was so much better. They purposely left behind a bunch of patterns for dilligent viewers (loyal friend and true) to memorize and improve their chances of winning, giving us a sense of skill and accomplishment. Bob Barker knew how to work up the excitement.

Then came the dark times, the Drew Carey era. When Terry Kneiss skillfully got a perfect bid on the showcase showdown, Drew Carey and Fremantle Media decided to be jerks about it. They refused to give Terry a standing ovation,

Bob Barker would have declared Terry a hero, an all time champion.

Today, The Price Is Right has been transformed from a game of blackjack and poker, to a stupid slot machine, where morons can win big with dumb luck.

All the patterns are now gone. There is zero incentive to watch the show ahead of time. All they care about is hype and stupidity.

A Priceless Gameshow

This show rules! Its really cool how a show that has been on since 1972 continues to do so well, and I think because its just really entertaining. They often have a lot of really good prizes, like some really good cars. I think this is a very enjoyable show for people who love to watch GameShows. I hope this comes to GameShow Network..

Thanks for Reading..

Barker Made the Show
shelbythuylinh24 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As that it is linked with his name. Even way before his retirement nearly fifteen years ago.

He really made it his own and that even though Drew Carey has fit right on in. Still without Bob Barker, the show really has not been the same on it.

In 2021 he will be turning 98 years old there. A studio or something is named in his honor.

An Institution That Stands The Test of Time
kingbk-219 February 2015
The Price is Right has changed in many ways from its debut in 1972. However, at the same time, it's still the same show of guessing the prices on items. I was one of the many that thought the show should call it a day when Bob Barker hung up his microphone in 2007, but Drew Carey has done a remarkable job of taking over and making the show his own. Sure, he's not the suave, charming, ladies man that Bob Barker was in his hey day, but he makes the show fun. He's more along the lines of Pat Sajak in that he's more laid back and isn't afraid to be self-deprecating. It comes off more genuine and honest than Bob did. Drew has had his speed bumps (the infamously awful "Drewcases" being the most visible example) but he's overcome them to make his mark on the show. Sure, sometimes I miss Bob building up the excitement of a huge prize or a big win, but I've gotten over it. I also like the updating of sets, prizes and more. Long time favorites like Lucky Seven, Plinko, Cliff Hangers and Hole-in-One fit in just as much as new games such as Gas Money, Rat Race, and Pay the Rent. The prizes, which got kind of stale under Bob, are fresh and lucrative. Drew isn't afraid to mix things up with theme weeks or other specials that keep the variety of the show strong. I also know this has nothing to do with the program, but it's nice to see Drew get along with the announcer and models, unlike the cold relationship Bob had with them in his later years. It makes the show more enjoyable to sense that everyone gets along. However, through and through, this is still the same old show that survived the daytime game show purge of the 90s and the same one that gave stay at home moms, seniors, and college students 60 minutes of fun every morning. That sense of nostalgia and familiarity have always been the core of the show's appeal, and it's nice with all the updating that they haven't lost that. The Price is Right, like Saturday Night Live, 60 Minutes and The Tonight Show, is one of those television institutions that, no matter how much things change, they will underneath it all, remain the same.

Disabled people
charleeslechta3 November 2022
My review is simple! Do you ever make a show with disabled people? If so when and how? In the years I've watched Price is Right I've never seen a disabled person on the stage with Drew Carey!!! As a disabled person it would be GREAT to see that. I don't feel left out because the Price is Right does a great job showing a rainbow of players but I recently noticed the absence of disabled people. I know the obvious answer is that most disabled people are so slow!! But if Price is Right made one episode for disabled person's and their caregivers! Maybe instead of three every 30 minutes have only two? Or have the caregivers on stage and the disabled person is on the floor or at least near the caregivers!! Just an idea to throw into the show!!!! Thank you so much for listening!

Spay and Neuter Your Pets
view_and_review20 March 2024
"The Price is Right" has had a long run and it keeps going. I've only caught a couple of episodes with Drew Carey as a host; Bob Barker is still Mr. Price is Right to me.

I'll never forget Bob Barker's cameo in "Happy Gilmore" when he got into a fight with Adam Sandler. "The price is wrong Bob!" SOCK! Then Sandler punched him in the face.😂

I was never good at "The Price is Right" when I watched it because I am bad at guesstimating prices of things. They'd roll out a living room set and some luggage made by whoever then ask the contestant to guess the price within so many dollars. I'd look at that stuff like, "How the heck do I know what it costs?" I would always be amazed at the price and I was hardly ever right.

My favorite part was the big spinning wheel that contestants would spin and try to land on a dollar. I had a better chance at that than guessing the right price.

bewitched792126 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I do like the price is right up till these recent years they got goofy the bob barker years were amazing and was a great host for the show.. recently people go crazy or nuts to get on stage like someone's name called to go in contestants row and people scream bloody murder or dance like a crazy person on stage most of the time it's eye rolling moment and Some contestants are good and act normal others act like a crazy person and say hi to everyone before they spin the wheel like oh shutup and spin the wheel and most of the time the audience goes awwww when someone loses a game..like really grow up it's just a game.

9 stars for Drew, 1 star for contestants.
rixter11 May 2021
I really like Drew Carey. Amiable and witty. But the fake enthusiasm of the contestants is totally annoying. I understand getting chosen to Come On Down! (now from backstage) is a reason to be happy but come on now. Screaming, dancing, back flips, pirouettes, cartwheels, it's so over the top and phony. It comes across as being scripted and the contestants are from Central Casting. Oh, for the old days before Coronavirus.

The best game show on Television!
morrowman213 May 2004
The Price is Right is without a doubt the best not to mention the longest running game show in the history of Television. I have watched the Price is Right ever since I was a little boy and I still watch watch it to this day. But, Here is what makes the Price is Right the best game show and that is none other then BOB BARKER! Bob Barker is the best host ever and he is the one that that makes the show the success that it always has been. I can almost a sure you that once Bob Barker either retires or dies that the show will never make it because no matter who they get to replace Bob the game show just would not be the same because Bob Barker is a one of a kind and there is only one of him!

Best game show in history!
Not sure why my previous review was taken down. It was positive, so none of my comments were offensive. I don't understand all of the criticism of Drew Carey. I love Bob Barker too (may he RIP), but I think Drew has done a phenomenal job of filling his shoes. That's not an easy thing to do - replacing someone who was pretty much a legend. I get a lot of people who have been watching Price Is Right since 1972 are probably not a fan of Drew, but he's not that bad, especially when you compare him to other game show hosts, and just people on TV in general, who are all mostly awkward and plastic. He has a sincere and genuine personality. Yes, he laughs at his own jokes (I guess you wouldn't like being around me then, because I do the same thing), but I get a good vibe from him through my screen. I'm not a fan of TV, as I think a lot of shows are boring, but I look forward to watching this on my days off. There's talk shows on other channels, but they don't wake me up like the Price Is Right does. I'm not a morning person, and watching people have conversations around a table or sitting on a couch just doesn't do it for me. This show makes me feel energized to start my day. With the sad and peculiar times we're living in, Drew's goofy sense of humor and the colorful assortment of contestants are a much needed dopamine-boost. And it's natural, so you can't go wrong!

Drew Carey is great, but he should get back in comedy
imxlntllc24 April 2022
Dre Carey is great as a game show host, but i wonder if he misses comedy a bit more. At his next contract thing he could bring in an actual game show host and then go to his comedy.. if he wants.
