For many reasons, impressive. First, for inspired nostalgia. Then, for the location and for the energy, eccentric solutions , songs, maybe Ted Neely.
After decades, seeing it again, you understand than Jesus of Holy Scripture real is missing in this film. Ted Neely propose a sort of neurotic hero, inspiring pity more than piety, a pure example of selfishness and deep vulnerability, not Son of God but a hippie dominated by Mary Magdalene and Judas , lost in space, ignoring Redemption or his fellowers.
It is a film who remains useful to be saw at different ages. The fascination of youth, the status of historical testimony, the force of song, the relation with the truth of New Testament.
