Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order is the third film in a trilogy that The Asylum began in Ape vs Monster and continued in Ape vs Mecha Ape. Or more likely the third film in a series that will last as long as there are megabudget Kong vs Godzilla films to provide inspiration for their mockbuster franchise.
Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order starts in 2007, Abraham the chimp is orbiting Earth when something large approaches the capsule and briefly cuts off contact between and NASA. Seventeen years later, the now kaiju-sized simian is angrily stomping around his home on Watkins Island, much to the concern of Hank and Mariana.
Naomi is also upset, the cruise ship her parents were on has disappeared without a trace. When the authorities can...

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was a bit of a departure for both Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware from the fan-favorite Dark Souls series. It ditched the action-rpg formula, leaning harder into the action-adventure aspect and less into the RPG side of things, even binning the character creator.
Sekiro also featured a brand-new setting: the late 16th-century Sengoku period of Japan, also known as the Warring States era. The game isn’t a strict historical adaptation, though, as it uses the era as a canvas to tell its own tale, and Miyazaki’s reasons for this direction are brilliant.

With Legendary’s big budget Hollywood blockbuster Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire dominating the box office, you knew it wouldn’t be long before The Asylum whipped up their own “mockbuster” version of the film. Their answer to Godzilla x Kong? It’s titled Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order, a sequel to last year’s Ape vs. Mecha Ape, naturally.
Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order will be available on Digital beginning April 5, and it pits the two titular titans up against, well, a mockbuster take on Lovecraft’s Cthulhu. Naturally!
In Ape x Mecha Ape, “A global cabal of world leaders awakens an ancient creature beneath the ocean floor. Now mankind’s only hope rests on an uneasy alliance between the giant ape and his mechanical arch-nemesis, Mecha Ape MkII, to save the Earth.”
The film will also be playing in the following theaters this Friday:

When Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021, the folks at The Asylum quickly put together a mockbuster called Ape vs. Monster, which featured a giant chimpanzee battling a giant Gila monster (after both creatures were enlarged by consuming a mysterious substance leaking from a space capsule). A sequel called Ape vs. Mecha Ape followed in 2023. Now the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is in theatres, and The Asylum will be giving their mockbuster Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order a digital and theatrical release this Friday, April 5th. In anticipation of the release, a trailer has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.

We officially entered the next generation of Budokai Tenkaichi game when Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero was announced in December. There's still no release date yet, but Bandai Namco teased more action and the first chunk of its sizable roster as part of the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour celebration, and if you like Goku and Vegeta you're in luck. In fact, Goku and Vegeta are at the heart of the new trailer, which showcases their rivalry. Related: Dragon Ball Powers Up in Sparking! Zero Full Announcement Game Trailer From the looks of the teaser image below, there will be roughly 164 characters—or forms of characters in many cases—to choose from. That doesn't seem quite so implausible when the first batch consists of a bunch of variations on Goku and Vegeta. Here's the full lineup of the first 24 playable characters: Goku (Z - Early) Goku (Z - Mid) Goku (Z -...

A filmmaker synonymous with American indie film but hasn’t been picked by Sundance in his first four features in Ape (2012), Buzzard (2014), The Alchemist Cookbook (2016) and Relaxer (2018), perhaps the narrative will change with his fifth feature which moved into production this past summer in Michigan. Joel Potrykus‘ Vulcanizadora sees his muse Joshua Burge for what is naturally a dark comedy.

Leading exhibitor AMC Entertainment completed a 1-for-10 reverse stock split this morning, a planned move preceding Friday’s conversion of its preferred “Ape” shares into common stock.
After the split, AMC shares were down 25% midway through the trading day, with volume at five times normal levels. The split means investors in the movie theater circuit get one share for every 10 shares they previously held, with the share price rising automatically as a result. Reverse splits are generally viewed as potentially risky moves by companies in need of reviving the price of their stock. AMC shares had been in the $2 range in recent days; factoring in the split, they are now above $14. Investors have continued to express worries about being diluted by the Ape swap.

Not letting the success of Ape vs Monster go to waste The Asylum is back with Ape vs. Mecha Ape. This time they’ve brought in Marc Gottlieb to write and direct. While it’s only his second feature, the other was Cousin Howard back in 1995, and the first one for The Asylum he’s written several scripts for them including Jungle Run, 2025 Armageddon, and Aquarium of the Dead. Can he kick the franchise into gear after its dismal first film?
Ape vs. Mecha Ape opens with a chemical weapons plant that looks like an old warehouse being attacked by what looks like the giant ape Abraham. A few explosions later we see that it’s actually a giant, well-armed, robot which makes short work of the plant’s security.

A sequel to 2021’s Ape vs. Monster, which served as a “mockbuster” take on Godzilla vs. Kong, The Asylum has just unleashed their latest creature feature: Ape vs. Mecha Ape.
Starring Tom Arnold, the kaiju-sized fight film is now available on VOD outlets.
In director Marc Gottlieb‘s Ape vs. Mecha Ape, “Recognizing the destructive power of its captive giant Ape, the military makes its own battle-ready A.I., Mecha Ape. But its first practical test goes horribly wrong, leaving the military no choice but to release the imprisoned giant ape to stop the colossal robot before it destroys downtown Chicago.”
Jack Pearson, Anna Telfer and Xander Bailey also star.
Could be fun, could be terrible. Watch the Ape vs. Mecha Ape trailer below.

There were plenty of incredible performances at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday, from a Nicki Minaj medley to a Bad Bunny show that went viral when he kissed a male backup dancer. The ceremony wasn’t without some duds, though which it came in the form of a collab with Eminem and Snoop Dogg to plug the metaverse and their Bored Ape NFTs.
The two rappers get transported into a digital world by way of Eminem getting a contact high from Snoop onstage, and we are then treated to clunky 3D models of the two of them on a flying stage that quickly morph into their Bored Ape avatars rapping verses.
Both Eminem and Snoop Dogg sounded fine, though seeing their Bored Apes walk jerkily around with minimal personality between sets made the show look more like an early video game cutscene than cutting-edge tech. Plus, the digitized...

It’s a collection of 6 — count ’em Six — horror and sci-fi curiosities from the ’40s and ’50s, aimed straight at covetous fantasy film addicts. Wacky scripts, strange characterizations and poverty row production values are on view, but the fine transfers reveal professional cinematography and occasional impressive direction. The films are definitely of their time — the censor-inhibited 1940s pictures rely on spooky situations because they can’t show blood or too much violence. And a pair of low-end B&w ‘scope thrillers from the ‘fifties drive-in era do more with less, cutting corners in interesting ways. Viavision anoints the shows with expert commentaries and a couple of real surprises: an entire extra feature and a rare 1950s TV show.

"You do not leave this couch until the challenge is completed!" Oscilloscope Labs has debuted the trailer for a demented, wacky indie film titled Relaxer, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year. Relaxer is the latest work from American filmmaker Joel Potrykus, who has been making some super funky little films including Ape, Buzzard, and The Alchemist Cookbook. This one is just as funky as all of those: With the impending Y2K apocalypse fast approaching, Abbie is faced with the ultimate challenge - the unbeatable level 256 on Pac-Man - and he can't get off the couch until he conquers it. A survival story in a living room. Starring Joshua Burge, David Dastmalchian, Andre Hyland, Madi Bachman, & Amari Cheatom. This looks totally gross and ridiculous, but apparently "an unforgettable experience" according to one critic. Here's the first official trailer (+ crazy poster) for Joel Potrykus' Relaxer, direct from YouTube...

A Tribute to King Kong takes place as part of the The St. Louis International Film Festival Sunday, Nov. 6 beginning at 6:00pm at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium. The first film screened will be the new documentary Long Live The King, which explores the enduring fascination with one of the biggest stars — both literally and figuratively — in Hollywood history: the mighty King Kong. Produced and directed by Frank Dietz and Trish Geiger, the creative team behind the award-winning “Beast Wishes,” the documentary devotes primary attention to the 1933 classic, celebrating the contributions of filmmakers Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, stars Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, and Bruce Cabot, writer Edgar Wallace, and especially stop-motion innovator Willis O’Brien. But Kong’s legacy is also fully detailed: the sequel “Son of Kong,” the cinematic kin “Mighty Joe Young,” the Dino DeLaurentis and Peter Jackson remakes, even the Japanese versions by Toho Studios.

This time he has to endure the uberbad King Kong knockoff filmed 3-D and in Korea by an American director (no wonder why Kim Jong Il hates us) film Ape. At least, it has Joanna Kearns in it. Plus, there's some Donkey Kong action and Sasquatch sings!
