Wild Bunch TV-sold “Albatros,” Turner Latin America’s banner title “Amarres” and REInvent Studios’ globe-trotting “Peacemaker” will feature at a 54 series-strong Buyers Showcase, which launches today March 25 as a backbone of Series Mania’s online Digital Forum, Europe’s first big festival experiment in a virtual marketplace.
Also featuring a powerful Co-Pro Pitching lineup, packed by pedigree producers and creatives, the Digital Forum’s industry audience, such as the number of accredited distributors, still has to be confirmed.
Some high-profile titles are missing: Opener “The Luminaries,” for example, from Fremantle and Working Title, and HBO closer “Run.” That said, the Buyer’s Showcase looks set to include five of Series Mania’s original 10 main competition entries and 13 of its 15 International Panorama titles, the festival’s two main sections.
Looking to the long-haul, as it also address urgent financial fall-out from Covid-19, the industry needs festival selection more than ever.

For 25 years, from 1992’s “La Frontera” through 2017’s ”A Fantastic Woman,” a subsequent Oscar winner, the Berlinale has prized a rich trove of Chilean movies.
Now, in sync with industry change, Berlin will celebrate the country’s TV with a Chilean Series on the Rise showcase, part of its Country Focus.
“When I started at CinemaChile, one mandate was to achieve the same sense of a phenomenon for Chilean series that had happened in film,” says Constanza Arena, executive director.
Berlin lifts the curtain on early success. “TV is the future of content,” says Matías Cardone, producer of “Dignity,” as the showcase comes in as a Country Focus’ centerpiece.
The five series presented have won big prizes, struck high-profile deals and helped bow original series investment and marked a major strategic departure at some of the world’s most energetic drama series players.

Shock talks to actress Hope Alexander-Willis about her time dodging devil dogs in 1977’s The Pack. Dachshunds dressed up as giant rats terrorize Toronto in a nature gone amok thriller from the director of Enter the Dragon. Guilty pleasures don’t get much guiltier than Deadly Eyes, and surprise announcements don’t get much more surprising than Scream Factory’s plan to release this 1982 creature feature.
It really would be an understatement to state that Scream Factory’s announcement Friday afternoon that they have acquired the rights to the early Eighties Warner Bros./Golden Harvest mutant rat b-movie bonanza Deadly Eyes came as a surprise to most everyone.
This slice of Canuxsploitation starring Scatman Crothers (The Shining) and Canadian scream queens Lesleh Donaldson (Curtains) and Lisa Langlois (Happy Birthday to Me) has been toiling in obscurity for so long I don’t think too many people expected to ever see it get an official release in any post-vhs form. This will mark the first time Deadly Eyes...

Writer Lee Gambin calls them Natural Horror films, other writers call them Revenge of Nature or Nature Run Amok films and writer Charles Derry considers them a type of Apocalyptic Cinema.
Of course we’re speaking of one of the great horror subgenres for which we’ll employ writer Kim Newman’s tag: The Revolt of Nature.
Since the end of the 1990s, lovers of animal attack films have been subjected to copious amounts of uninspired Nu Image, Syfy Channel and Syfy Channel-like dreck like Silent Predators (1999), Maneater (2007) Croc (2007), Grizzly Rage (2007) and a stunning amount of terrible shark attack films to name a few that barely scratch the surface of a massive list.
These movies fail miserably to capture the intensity of the unforgettable films they are imitating and the recent wave seems to carry with it the intent of giving the Revolt of Nature horror film a bad name.

Ned Wertimer, best known for his role as Ralph the Doorman on the long-running CBS comedy The Jeffersons has died. The 89-year-old actor died at a Los Angeles-area nursing home on January 2, following a November fall at his Burbank home, his manager Brad Lemack tells The Associated Press. The Buffalo, New York native appeared in dozens of TV shows from the 1960s through the 1980s, including Gunsmoke, I Dream Of Jeannie, Mork & Mindy, Mayberry R.F.D., and Mary Tyler Moore, but it was his role as Ralph Hart, the uniformed, mustachioed doorman at the luxury apartment building on The Jeffersons that he is best remembered. He appeared in all 11 seasons of the All In The Family spinoff that aired from 1975 to 1985. He also appeared in numerous feature films including Hometown U.S.A., Mame, The Pack, At Long Last Love and The Impossible Years. His most recent film appearance was in 2007′s Pirates...
