The 1970s– an era of “unrest and mistrust, fear and violence,” says the opening minutes of Colin and Cameron Cairnes’ Late Night with the Devil, accurately reflecting the viewpoint of the burgeoning moral panic of the time. Fear mongering-ish as that sounds, after a decade of Christianity in crisis mode– including a 1966 Times cover asking, “Is God Dead?”– and the “Satanic” cult murders by the Manson Family in 1969, the ’70s were a time of peak (at least until then) obsession with all things occult, planting the seeds and ultimately leading to what would be known as the full-blown Satanic Panic in the decade to follow. The devil was believed to be real, and he was to be feared, expelled, and/or worshiped– in real life and reflected in dozens and dozens of horror films and countless categories of other media within that era.

There’s nothing quite like a nun horror movie to remind us that the line between the sacred and the terrifying is thinner than a communion wafer. In this unholy listicle, we’re diving deep into the cloistered corners of horror cinema to bring you the ultimate guide to nunsploitation. So, whether you’ve taken your holy orders or you’re just a horror enthusiast looking for your next sacrilegious scare, join us on this divine journey through some of the most unholy tales ever told on screen.
From demonic possessions to gothic tales of madness and despair unfolding on hallowed ground, nun horror movies have a unique way of getting under our skin. Maybe it’s the way they juxtapose the purity of the habit with the darkness of the supernatural, or perhaps it’s just that nuns have always had a knack for knowing what’s lurking in the shadows.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Kathryn Bigelow’s underappreciated “Strange Days” features a line that goes something like “The issue isn’t whether you’re paranoid. The issue is whether you’re paranoid enough.” Although that film is set in 1999, it’s an aphorism that would work equally well in Stéphan Castang’s fun, violent, high-concept “Vincent Must Die,” as a punchy summation of post-pandemic — rather than pre-millennial — nervousness and malaise. Who among us has not gazed in dismay at a world that’s not just increasingly bad-tempered, but seems to hold against each one of us some focused, individual grudge? The times have doubtless always been bad, but they hit (and hit and hit) differently now, like this time, it’s personal.
Vincent is initially not paranoid enough/at all. A bit uninspired, perhaps. Low-level depressed, possibly. And carrying his inevitable thirtysomething disillusionment in a little schlub around the midriff, for sure. But not...

AC/DC played their first show in seven years on Saturday night (October 7th) at the Power Trip festival in Indio, California. The evening also featured a set by fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Judas Priest.
For this Power Trip gig, AC/DC’s lineup featured classic members Brian Johnson (vocals), Angus Young (lead guitar), and Cliff Williams (bass) alongside Stevie Young (rhythm guitar) and drummer Matt Laug.
Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden set the bar high at Power Trip the night before, but AC/DC were up to the challenge, showing no signs of rust as they ripped into “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It),” marking the first time they’ve ever kicked off a set with the Highway to Hell song.
From there, the 24-song set featured one classic after another, with the very next tune being the iconic “Back in Black,” followed by other favorites like “Thunderstruck,...

Cities, with their bright lights and endless skylines, may seem like the last place you’d expect to encounter the supernatural or the sinister. The hustle and bustle, the coffee shops at every corner, the never-ending traffic jams – it’s all a part of the metropolitan charm, right? Yet, behind that cosmopolitan allure hides an underbelly of chilling tales, waiting to unfold amidst towering skyscrapers and maze-like streets. Just think about it – those very alleys you consider shortcuts might just be gateways to another realm.
In the grand tradition of taking familiar settings and turning them on their heads, filmmakers have masterfully woven narratives of terror in the very heart of urban landscapes. The next time you find yourself walking down a dimly lit downtown street, you might just wonder which shadowy figure from the world of cinema is lurking around the corner. If you’re a fan of big...

William Friedkin's demonic possession film "The Exorcist," based on the novel by William Peter Blatty, cause a sensation when it was first released in 1973. It took place in Georgetown, Washington DC, an upscale college town, and depicted the life of a young girl named Regan (Linda Blair) as she became increasingly ill and erratic. She began contorting her body at random intervals and screaming obscenities at adults in a deep, unusual voice. No doctors could find out what was wrong with her. Regan's illnesses were marked by some eerie coincidences. She had recently, just for fun, begun having conversations with a spirit named Captain Howdy via an Ouija board. A local church was also vandalized, their Virgin Mary statue given outsized genitalia.
Also, a faraway priest named Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow) discovered a strange demonic statue in an archaeological dig in Iraq. As Hamlet might say, time is out of joint.

If you’re a fan of Mel Gibson’s classic action flicks, be sure to stream them before they leave Max at the end of August.
All four “Lethal Weapon” movies and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” starring the late, great Tina Turner, will be leaving the streaming service. Luckily, you’ll have all month to watch them.
Watching the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” animated movie in theaters? Max has several films featuring the radical reptilians: the live-action “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” (1991)
and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993), as well as the animated “Tmnt” (2007).
Kaiju fans will want to check out “Godzilla” (2014), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “King Kong” (1933) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (2012).
Finally, if horror is your thing, six “Hellraiser” films and “The Ring Two” make great summer scares.

Sam Raimi is changing up the Evil Dead films. The other films were usually set in the usual places like a cabin in the middle of the woods, a medieval castle, or a retail store’s storage room. This time, the evil Necronomicon is plopped down in the middle of a city, inside an apartment building. This brings an interesting take on the new film Evil Dead Rise. How do you escape the evil when you’re confined to a single apartment? Let’s see if they took some notes from some of the best apartment horror films.
Critters 3 (1991)
This film stars an Oscar winner! The one and only Leonardo DiCaprio plays Josh. Before returning home to the big city, his family stops at a rest area. They don’t know that some newly hatched Crites have stowed away in their vehicle. Once they return to their apartment building,...

The original "Grease" stage musical first debuted at the Kingston Mines night club in Chicago in 1971. The book was by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, who also wrote the music and lyrics with John Farrar. Set in the 1950s, "Grease" was a winking, somewhat bawdy anti-nostalgia piece about high school greasers and car nuts falling in love after a significant summer vacation. It banked on the images of squeaky-clean 1950s teeny-bopper movies, but inserted sexuality, a teen pregnancy, gang violence, and themes of class. The main characters were Danny the greaser and Sandy the square. They had a romantic fling in the summer, but may be too embarrassed to date one another during the school year. Their relationship is reconciled when Sandy adopts the clothes and mannerisms of the greasers. "Grease" moved to Broadway in 1972 and played all the way through 1980, making it the longest-running Broadway show at the time.

A busy pair of American Horror Story: NYC episodes wipe the slate clean only to show that some tragedies can’t be so easily erased.
“What are our lives going to be like when we’re not hunting serial killers?”
A sentinel is defined as “a soldier or guard whose job is to stand and keep watch,” which is consistent with American Horror Story’s exploration of the concept. However, Whitely equates his powerful sentinel to an object of intense pride. “The Sentinel” and “Fire Island” are a pair of American Horror Story: NYC episodes that really get to the root of that word. These installments are a strong reminder that pride is a sin and not always something to admire and celebrate. These satisfying episodes live in this murky territory and they help push this season of American Horror Story towards a powerful conclusion.

Michael Kopsa, a veteran of Canadian-shot TV series and movies like The X-Files, Highlander, Smallville and Fantastic Four, has died. He was 66.
Kopsa died Sunday of complications from a brain tumor, his former wife, Lucia Frangione, announced on Twitter.
“The great Michael Kopsa, my dear friend and the father of my child, Nora, passed away Oct. 23, 2022, of a brain tumor,” she wrote Tuesday. “He was an incredible stage and screen actor, voice actor, carpenter, musician and painter. Most importantly, he was a loving and richly present father.”
Kopsa was a staple of genre TV series shot in Vancouver or Toronto, including Fringe, The Net, Dead Zone and The Sentinel. He also played General Kerrigan on Stargate Sg-1 after moving to Vancouver in 1994.
“Stargate employed just about every actor in Vancouver I think at one time or another. We are all going to wait for our turn.

Estonia received a splashy introduction to the limelight in 2019, when it played host to Christopher Nolan’s time-bending sci-fi drama “Tenet.” The biggest production to shoot in the Baltic nation to date, Warner Bros.’ 200 million blockbuster landed Estonia squarely on the map for international film and television productions.
Though the coronavirus pandemic arrived not long after principal photography wrapped, the industry hasn’t skipped a beat since, with both domestic and international production — drawn by a cash rebate of up to 30 —continuing apace. This year, says Estonian Film Institute CEO Edith Sepp, there are no signs of slowing down.
“The Estonian cash rebate has been booming more than ever in the first half of this year,” she says. “In the whole of 2021, we had seven projects using the cash rebate scheme, but by January this year, we already had eight projects lined up for the rebate and the year had barely started.

After being cancelled in 2020 and then delayed in 2021, the Cannes Film Festival is finally back on track for May 2022 on the French Riviera. The 75th installment of the international cinema showcase will take place from May 17 to May 28, and there will be 18 films competing for the coveted Palme d’Or, the festival’s top prize. Last year that honor went to the French thriller “Titane,” directed by Julia Ducournau. As of this writing several details are still to be announced including who will be on this year’s jury and who will be serving as jury president after Spike Lee presided over last year’s program.
A filmmaker’s previous track record at Cannes can sometimes give us an idea of who’s in a good position to claim the Palme. For instance, seven of this year’s entries in the official competition come from directors who have previously won...

A common setting in many a genre outing over the years is the apartment complex due to its familiarity yet isolation. Living in close proximity to other people yet not knowing what’s going on behind their doors offers limitless potential for thrills and chills, which is best exemplified by outings like Roman Polanski’s so-called ‘Apartment’ trilogy including “Repulsion”, “Rosemary’s Baby”, and “The Tenant” but also spreading outward to titles including “The Sentinel”, “Poltergeist 3”, “Dark Waters” and “Rec”, to name just a few. Now, filmmaker Vikram K. Kumar attempts to provide his own take on the setting with this Tamil-lensed chiller that has quite a lot to like about it.

“The final element that’s been missing” — golden speedster kicks — has at long last been added to The Flash‘s supersuit, Grant Gustin declared on Saturday at DC FanDome.
Reflecting on his costume’s years-long evolution, Gustin said during the online fan event, “I’ve loved all the versions of The Flash suit we’ve had on the show, but the suit we have now is the closest to the many iterations you see in the comic books — with the exception of those gold boots!” Now, though, the scarlet speedster will now motor around in his flashiest footwear yet. “I...

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Monday, August 30.
AMC is in it for the long haul with the Annie Murphy starrer Kevin Can F**k Himself, which has landed a second season renewal.
The renewal comes just weeks after the conclusion of its freshman run, which was the most-watched series on AMC+, where it aired a week earlier than the linear episodes.
Said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios:
“It’s Kevin’s world, Allison’s just living in it."
"Or is she? This series was built on a novel and unique concept, and the creative team on both sides of the camera, led by Valerie and Annie, delivered a highly entertaining first season that really got people talking and rooting for the sitcom wife as never before."

We miss Arrowverse crossovers and big team-ups. Of course, we understand why that wasn’t in the cards for the most recent seasons of our favorite DC TV shows. The pandemic made the logistics of filming TV shows at all a challenge, let alone ones with the kind of scale we’ve come to expect from the CW’s lineup of DC Arrowverse shows.
Not only that, their most recent crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths was literally So big that topping it in any capacity was going to be almost impossible. It’s one of the most recognizable and beloved stories in all of DC Comics history, and the TV version managed to encompass much of the scope of DC TV and movies. It was a massive storytelling accomplishment, and the various Arrowverse showrunners had already said that their next crossovers would be smaller in scale, even before Covid hit.

Exclusive: Black Widow cinematographer Gabriel Beristain has signed on to direct adaptations of the books Brooklyn Story and 11 Days in Hell, which were recently acquired by Wallner Media.
The former project is a film, which Suzanne Corso adapted from her best-selling novel of the same name. The latter is a TV series, based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William T. Harper. Beristain will direct all 11 episodes, scripted by Bruce and Brett Moore.
The first novel in a trilogy, Brooklyn Story is set in the summer of 1978. It centers on Samantha Bonti, who is fifteen years old, half Jewish and half Italian, and hesitantly edging toward pure Brooklyn, even if her dreams of something more are bigger than the neighborhood girls’ teased hair. Samantha lives in Bensonhurst with her mother, Joan, a woman abandoned and scarred in a ruinous marriage, poisoned with cynicism, and shackled by addictions,...

So, incredible as it may seem now, there was a time when Multiverse was a dirty word. Back in the early 1980’s DC decided that having multiple versions of their characters was just too confusing for potential new readers, and so essentially threw all their long term readers under the bus by writing out of existence whole chunks of DC history, as well as quite a few characters. I loved and hated it in equal measure, hated it for the loss of things I really loved such as Earth-2, but admiring the incredible story that Marv Wolfman, George Perez, and Jerry Ordway put together. Now, of course, DC has done a full 360 degree shift in its outlook, and recognised that rather than alternate characters and worlds being confusing, they actually allow you to appeal to more people, by offering...

Kelly Olsen is ready to take up the shield
National City’s newest Guardian is coming. Azie Tesfai’s Kelly Olsen will be taking up the mantle from her brother in the back half of the final season of “Supergirl,” and she’s got a brand new look.
To refresh your memory: After James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) exited “Supergirl” in Season 5, fans immediately began hoping his sister Kelly would take the shield, having seen her briefly wield the weapon during “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” At the end of March, the “Supergirl” showrunners made it official, announcing that Tesfai would become Guardian in Season 6. This makes Kelly one-half of an official super couple, as her girlfriend Alex (Chyler Leigh) officially became Sentinel in the season premiere.
Of course, Kelly’s Guardian is going to look a lot different than James’ Guardian. Here’s your official first look at the hero’s new suit and shield.

In terms of French cinema, you can’t get much better than filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin. The man behind features such as “The Sentinel,” “My Golden Days,” and “Ismael’s Ghosts” consistently brings something new to each film, often switching genres between films. So, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that, coming off of a crime drama and a Philip Roth adaptation, Desplechin is venturing into the realm of family drama for “Brother and Sister.”

(Warning: Major spoilers ahead for the season six premiere of “Supergirl”)
The final season of “Supergirl” is starting off on a rough note for Supergirl herself. The final moments of the premiere saw Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) returned once again to the Phantom Zone, this time at the hands of Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer). And so the question for the beginning of this final season is simple: can the Super Friends get her back?
The odds may not be as dire as they seem. After all, they finally have a full team in their corner. Lena (Katie McGrath) is in on Kara’s secret now and making peace with it, simultaneously making Lena an invaluable, full-time asset to the team. And, based on the final moments of the premiere, Kelly Olsen will soon be in the know as well. Because now it’s official: Kelly is the last to know that Kara Danvers is Supergirl.

Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

With Jack Ryan still awaiting its third season, Amazon’s supply of action heroes named Jack R. was running perilously low. Thankfully, the streamer announced today that it has cast the titular hero in its upcoming Jack Reacher TV series.
Alan Ritchson (Titans) will play the enormous lead in Amazon’s upcoming show based on Lee Child’s bestselling series of books.
We say “enormous lead” because, in addition to being an ex-Army major in the military police, Jack Reacher’s whole deal is being an absolute unit. Child’s beefy creation is said to be 6’5 and top the scales around 250 pounds. A popular pastime on social media is finding passages from Child’s books that describe Reacher’s mass and configurations in increasingly hyperbolic ways. The protagonist has been described as having fists the size of supermarket chickens, Thanksgiving turkeys, and dinner plates.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been on hiatus for the past few months, ever since filming in Prague was halted due to the pandemic back in March. Some new set videos taken earlier this year have surfaced, though, which give us another look at what seems to be a key action sequence in the Disney Plus series.
If you’ve been keeping up to date with every scrap of material from the set, you may be aware that the show will feature an attack on the 2023 G20 summit, probably in one of its later episodes. The videos – one of which you can see above, while the rest can be found here – come courtesy of Murphy’s Multiverse and offer up some new footage from this event.
Most of all, they show us that Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes will be fighting alongside Wyatt Russell’s John Walker Aka the new Captain America.

The Miami Herald reported that Buress was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for disorderly intoxication in 2017 when he asked a police officer to call him an Uber. Chris Evans said goodbye to the role of Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, but like Robert Downey Jr. with Iron Man, fans aren’t convinced they’ve seen the last of him in the McU. After all, this is a universe where anything can happen. Not only that, but it’s a multiverse, too. A multiverse full of alternate versions of familiar characters. The satellite and the two survivors are sent to Wildfire, a top-secret underground laboratory equipped with a nuclear self-destruct mechanism to prevent the spread of infection in case of an outbreak. Realizing that the satellite brought back a lethal organism from another world, a team...
