- West German theatrical release as well as all subsequent German TV broadcasts and video/DVD editions were cut by 20 minutes for content. Only in 2007 the complete version was released on DVD.
- NBC cut 27 minutes from this film for its 1980 network television premiere.
- The version currently shown by Netflix (March 2017) ends with the shot of the list burning to ash, followed by slow fade to black, then the credits.
- The version shown on "Talking Pictures" TV in the UK on May 23rd 2020 was the original ending when after the burning of the list by Lieberman it cuts to Bobby Wheelock developing pictures of the wounded Mengele and Lieberman and the last shot is that of Mengele's necklace hanging up in the dark room.
- The original theatrical version of The Boys From Brazil contained a graphic shot of Gregory Peck biting off Laurence Olivier's ear during the climactic fight scene. However, it was edited out of the film after its original release.
- A somewhat shorter version has been (still is?) available on video in the UK, Sweden and Denmark where all scenes related to a necklace found by Mengele in his old South American hospital have been removed. This meant that the film ended with Liebermann in the hospital bed burning the list of the boys remaining to be found. Perhaps a somewhat more optimistic ending than the original showing Bobby Wheelock in possesion of the necklace and developing pictures of the wounded Mengele and Lieberman.
