Violence & Gore

  • Images of Jews who have been hanged are shown.
  • There is some old black and white footage of Jewish people being shot while standing in mass graves; they are seen dying and falling down on screen.
  • Numerous photos of dead bodies are shown, sometimes naked, and often emaciated.
  • There is a very upsetting story about young Jewish women being raped by soldiers and then shot. Some are said to be mutilated before they were killed too.
  • A disturbing description of Jewish people being sent into gas chambers and killed is heard.
  • A brief description on some of the medical procedures against Jewish prisoners is heard, with some upsetting images of starving children and large wounds on prisoner's legs shown.
  • Charred skeletons and bodies of Jewish people who had been burned to death in ovens are shown.
  • A bulldozer is shown shovelling countless dead bodies into a mass grave.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is an incredibly upsetting documentary. It deals with how The Holocaust began and the ways in which it attempted to eradicate the Jewish race out of existence, and pulls no punches when it comes to graphic details and historical images.
  • Many of the eyewitness accounts narrated by Elizabeth Taylor are particularly upsetting, as they come from Jewish people who survived the atrocities committed against them. Taylor sounds upset and distressed reading them, and tense music and disturbing historical images accompany these accounts.
  • Details on how the British and American governments did not take in as many Jewish refugees as they possibly could have (whilst they were fleeing Germany before the genocide began) may be a disturbing detail to some.
  • One of the most disturbing things in the documentary is how easy it describes the Nazi Party starting the genocide against the Jewish population. It proposes that many nations- including the US- were somewhat apathetic to The Holocaust, as late as 1942/43, when it was well under way.
