In a special 40th-anniversary episode of the Nightmare on Film Street podcast, Heather Langenkamp, who famously portrayed Nancy Thompson in the iconic A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), reveals her eagerness to return to the nightmare-scape of her legendary role.
Langenkamp reminisced about the profound connections formed on set, especially with the late Wes Craven, the mastermind behind the series. She shared a nostalgic reflection on her character’s evolution through the films:
“We get to see and follow her in a really natural way, through being a teenager here and then being a young adult in Nightmare on Elm Street Part Three [1987], and then being a woman and a mother. And it’s very rare to have a character who can span that many different experiences, not only for just a woman, but for a person going through so much experience.”
In a touching nod to her relationship with Freddy Krueger,...

It’s not just the bad guys who have to watch their backs anymore. In the chilling wake of the new film Abigail, where a seemingly straightforward kidnapping spirals into a vampire-fueled frenzy, we’ve been inspired to delve into the murky depths of horror movies where it’s evil squaring off against evil. These 12 films twist the usual fright formula by pitting traditional villains—think thieves, rogue agents, and hardened criminals—against adversaries that are unexpectedly more sinister and supernatural. So, buckle up as we unleash a list that explores the darkest corners of human (and non-human) nature, where everyone’s morality is grey and the bad guys get way more than they bargained for…

I like heists. I like vampires. And well, I guess I also dig ballet now, too. Enter Abigail, who pirouettes into theaters, eager and armed to deliver on all three. From the clapboard of Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett—creators of modern horror staples like Ready or Not and the latest Scream installments—comes this zany tale that stitches crime caper with monster madness in a wholly original fabric. It’s a bold new take on the vampire genre, delivering blood-soaked violence and maximum horror hijinks for a dangerously delightful trip to the movies.

The setup is spooky, simple, and perfectly kooky: a ragtag gang of crooks plans the ultimate score—kidnapping a 12-year-old ballerina, Abigail, for a $50 million ransom from her nefarious father.

The wrestling world is in such an incoherent state right now that even the fans are puzzled about it all. While the recently held events did give fans the matches they had been looking forward to seeing all this time between The Rock, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, John Cena, and all the others, it also brought about some seriously unforeseen and incredibly confusing situations.

One of these situations was none other than Dwayne Johnson’s final message to the American Nightmare at WWE Raw after WrestleMania Xl. If anything, this one particular message had fans so at a loss about what to make of it since the message that the Brahma Bull delivered to Rhodes felt nothing short of emotional and sentimental on the part of Johnson.

WWE is no new to long-term storytelling, and it seems the seeds for the next big rivalry have already been sown on Night One of WrestleMania 40. While initially it was supposed to be The Rock vs Roman Reigns, following the fans’ backlash, who were adamant about seeing Cody Rhodes finish his story, it was eventually scrapped.
With the Bloodline now coming on top on Night One, resulting in a Bloodline Rules match for the main event of Night Two, the American Nightmare might be in for a rough time tonight. Mardi Gras is long over, and Halloween is still months away. But over the next four days in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Overlook Film Festival will celebrate the strange and unusual with a salute to horror that couldn’t be timelier.
“As we are talking, we have just seen two brand-new horror releases — ‘Immaculate’ and ‘Late Night with the Devil’ — have the highest openings for those distributors in their histories,” festival co-director Landon Zakheim told IndieWire. “On top of that, we’ve got the new ‘Godzilla,’ which was made by filmmakers who are alums of many festivals, including ours. And Disney is shepherding in an ‘Omen’ franchise film from a festival circuit filmmaker as well,” he said. “That’s all just if you look at the last couple of weeks.

The "Twilight Zone" episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", directed by Richard Donner, remains to this day one of the show's most popular. Scripted by Richard Matheson and starring a pre-"Star Trek" William Shatner, "Nightmare" follows a man, Robert Wilson, recently released from a sanitarium due to a mental breakdown. On a flight back home, Robert peers out the plane window into the rainy night and sees a massive, furry gremlin standing on the wing of the plane. The gremlin, in true gremlin spirit, pries up a metal panel on the wing and begins futzing with the machinery inside. The gremlin might very well cause the plane to crash. When Robert tries to alert anyone about the gremlin, they all assume he's imagining it, once again succumbing to his nerves.

Kristen Stewart gained widespread recognition for her role as Jodie Foster’s daughter in the 2002 thriller ‘Panic Room.’ However, it was her portrayal of Bella Swan in the ‘Twilight’ film series, starting in 2008, that catapulted her to international fame. With the recent release of the Investigation Discovery docuseries, titled Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, people and child actors formerly working with Nickelodeon have come forward to accuse showrunner Dan Schneider of alleged misconduct and abuse with the minor actors on set.
And not just one child star, there have been several counts where many actors who have worked with the showrunner in the past come together to corroborate these claims.

When it comes to religious horror movies, filmmakers have long delighted in pushing boundaries, crafting tales steeped in blasphemy and the sacrilegious. These don’t just tiptoe around the edge of sacrilege; they dive headfirst into the abyss of the unholy. They challenge the sanctity of the sacred, turning hallowed ground into a playground for the profane and the demonic. This sub-genre of horror is not for the faint of heart, as it boldly questions and often subverts deeply-held beliefs, making it a thrilling ride for those who dare to question what’s held sacred.
From demonic possessions to unholy rituals, these films unflinchingly explore the darkest corners of religious belief and practice. They are the cinematic equivalent of forbidden fruit, offering a taste of the ultimate horror taboo: a forsaken, godless world. As we delve into the underbelly of religious horror cinema, we find a treasure trove of films that not only scare,...

In a thrilling update for fans of the iconic horror franchise, Neve Campbell is set to make a grand return to Woodsboro in the much-anticipated Scream 7. The news broke today through a heartfelt Instagram post from Campbell herself, signaling a celebrated reunion with the series that catapulted her to fame.
Scream, a saga that has sliced its way through the fabric of pop culture since its debut, is gearing up for its seventh installment with a twist that has the horror community buzzing. Neve Campbell, the original survivor Sidney Prescott, had previously stepped away from the franchise due to a pay dispute during Scream 6. Her last appearance was in the 2022 reboot, which injected new life into the series. Fans and critics alike were left wondering if Campbell’s iconic character had taken her final bow. However, her recent announcement quashes those doubts, promising a return that many hoped for but few expected.

As a fan who’s always ready to warp into the realms of time travel movies, my anticipation for Things Will Be Different was as high as my hopes for a DeLorean to appear on my driveway. Helmed by Michael Felker, in what marks his leap from editing to directing, with frequent collaborators Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson (Something in The Dirt) producing, this film is a time-twisting tale that packs a lot more than just temporal leaps.
Things Will Be Different throws estranged siblings Joseph (Adam David Thompson) and Sidney (Riley Dandy) into a temporal tangle that’s more twisted than spaghetti in a black hole. After a diner meet-up goes awry, they find refuge in an abandoned farmhouse that’s more than it appears. What initially seems like a lucky escape turns into a chronal puzzle, ensnaring them in a time they can’t easily zip back from.

In the crammed video aisle of supernatural horror films, the introduction of a villainous teddy bear in Imaginary might initially raise more eyebrows than pulse rates. Directed with a keen eye for the absurd by Jeff Wadlow (director of Nofs fave Cry_Wolf) and penned by the trio of Wadlow, Greg Erb, and Jason Oremland, this latest offering from Blumhouse Productions – the powerhouse behind a slew of commodified villains – might seem like it’s scraping the bottom of the horror trope barrel. The film stars DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, and the delightful Betty Buckley, in a narrative that threads the familiar needle of haunted playthings and the unseen horrors they sneak under our beds.
“..Imaginary manages to swerve unexpectedly from eye-roll-worthy to surprisingly delightful. “
The premise of Imaginary tiptoes around the edge of being all too familiar: Jessica (DeWanda Wise) and her family, including the youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun), move back to her childhood home,...

Jack Clark and Jim Weir’s Birdeater is an intriguing entry into the Australian horror scene, attempting to weave a tapestry of psychological tension amidst the backdrop of a bachelor party gone terribly wrong. The premise is straight forward—a cocktail of bad decisions, simmering tensions, and an echo chamber of toxic masculinity, making for an unsettling slow-burn thriller that promises to leave its audience teetering on the edge of their seats. However, while the concept is ripe with potential, the execution leaves something to be desired.
The film introduces us to Louie (Mackenzie Fearnley), his fiancée Irene (Shabana Azeez), and a motley crew of friends and frenemies, including the unpredictable Dylan (Ben Hunter), the laid-back Murph (Alfie Gledhill), and the enigmatic Sam (Harley Wilson), an old flame of Irene’s with a complicated history within the group. In the ever-evolving landscape of horror cinema, a new contender steps into the neon spotlight, promising a unique blend of teenage angst and supernatural thrills. I Saw the TV Glow just dropped its first trailer, and it’s already setting the stage for what could be the most intriguingly eerie movie experience of 2024.
At the heart of this chilling adventure are Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine, playing two small-town teenagers bound by an uncommon obsession: a mysteriously canceled TV show. With a premise that feels like a nostalgic nod to the late-night TV binges of yore, I Saw the TV Glow seems poised to redefine the boundaries between the supernatural and the everyday with a distinctly electric purple hue of TV static as its backdrop.
The creative mind behind this intriguing venture is none other than Jane Schoenbrun, previously known for their webcam horror exploration in We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.

In the year of our Lord Cthulhu 2024, it's abundantly clear what the general aims of the Blumhouse production company are: to make a variety of mid- to low-budget genre features that contain any sort of hook which will make a return on their investment. The 21st century's version of old exploitation companies like Empire International Pictures and New World Pictures, Blumhouse occasionally produces a breakout prestige genre film, but more often than not they're making, y'know, "Night Swim."
Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. Jason Blum and company know that horror fans love a balanced diet, happily taking their veggies along with their french fries. One of the most "french fry" movies Blumhouse ever made was 2018's "Truth or Dare," a film in which the most famous high school party game turns deadly once a supernatural element forces the players to either participate or forfeit their lives.
