Twenty-seven-year-old Patrick Starr – born Patrick Simondac – explains in his own words how he turned his love of makeup into a YouTube empire complete with international business trips and 1.8 million subscribers.
Growing up, we didn’t have cable – and we didn’t really have internet, so I watched the local channels. That meant reality shows like America’s Next Top Model or Miss Universe or The Swan. I loved The Swan. I loved all those kind of shows.
I also studied classical piano. I even taught piano lessons in my teens. I loved playing the piano. It was like auditory art.

In an odd turn of events, this list has a number of films that don’t have English-language titles. They just go by whatever the original title was. Good for us. What we do see in this portion of the list is a few movies that weren’t really created specifically to be horror films, but their themes and visuals made it so. In addition, we have some heavyweights of non-horror cinema creating horror films that push the genre all the more upward. “Thinking man horror,” if you will.
20. Le locataire (1976)
English Language Title: The Tenant
Directed by: Roman Polanski
Roman Polanski has made one of the greatest horror “trilogies” of all time with 1965′s British production Repulsion, 1968′s American production Rosemary’s Baby, and 1976′s French production The Tenant, completing his “Apartment Trilogy.” Unlike the other two, Polanski actually stars in The Tenant as Trelkovsky, a reserved man renting an apartment in Paris.

Stephen Colbert has opened up about the deaths of his father and older brothers in a plane crash. James Colbert Jr and his sons Peter and Paul were killed in an Eastern Air Lines crash on September 11, 1974 while en route to enrol the boys in school. In a new interview with Oprah's Next Chapter, Stephen cited the family tragedy as the defining event of his adolescence. "For years, I sort of thought that that was my secret name… That the loss was my name, if you know what I mean... [the experience] is who you are," he explained. Colbert continued: "I didn't really feel the loss until I was in college. Then, I was in bad shape... I was just so sad about it. "I was 10 when they died. It's only (more)...

"The Colbert Report" has been temporarily suspended due to the host's mother, Lorna Colbert, 91, falling ill, sources close to the show say.
Since news broke early yesterday morning that new episodes of "The Colbert Report" had been abruptly put on hold due to "unforeseen circumstances," speculation as to the reason has ranged far and wide. Many fans suspected a family illness, while others speculated that the host had been fired or that he was engaging in some kind of bizarre PR stunt.
While "The Daily Show" has previously cancelled shows at the last minute -- once for the birth of Jon Stewart's second child and once after the death of a staffer -- this is the first time "The Colbert Report" has done so.
On Thursday, a person who has a business relationship with the network told The Huffington Post that the host's mother was seriously ill, and on Friday,...

He is missed. New episodes of Stephen Colbert's Comedy Central The Colbert Report were abruptly suspended this week, with the network saying only, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, Feb. 15, and Thursday, Feb. 16." The announcement immediately gave rise to speculation about the cause. On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that the schedule change was prompted by an unspecified family emergency, although production could resume as early as next week. No date was given. On Friday, the New York Post offered some details. The newspaper, citing sources close to the show, said the host,...

Writer/director Miles Trahan (In Dreams — 2009 Short Film) delivers Bad Things, a seven-minute short drama about two guys dumping a dead body in the woods. Wait… scratch that. This films not just about two guys disposing of a corpse. Sure, that.s what actually takes place on screen, but the devil is in the details, as they say.
Bad Things opens on two men, Peter (played by Ryan Castro, Never Too Late) and Paul (played by Justin Serrano), both in white shirts covered in blood removing a dead man from the trunk of their car. Peter and Paul carry on about faith and God, karma and redemption, taking two opposing viewpoints on the subject of understanding it all… the easy way, and the hard way.
The pleasant, peaceful setting of the woods in autumn daylight and birds chirping, contrasts with the darker deed being done. While the natural assumption would...

What's your favorite scary movie, a deep unfamiliar voice questions on the other end of the phone in the Scream series. What's scarier then supernatural terrors? People just like you and me that one day just snap. People are the scariest creations out there. Not restricted by sunlight or a full moon or to haunt a home single home. People have free will. Human beings can go anywhere and do just about anything. To me there is nothing scarier than that. Horror movie villains are not all monsters, demons, and ghosts. In fact some of the most menacing villains in cinematic history have been realistic completely plausible human villains such as Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs", the masked killers from "The Strangers", and Peter and Paul from "Funny Games".
My favorite human villain is Leslie Vernon (Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon). Sure this film...

Gazprom, the giant Russian oil company, secures approval to build the tallest, "greenest" tower in Europe, in the heart of St. Petersburg. Some say it'll be "monstrous." It'll also be a 77-story middle-finger to the low-carbon movement.
Gazprom, the Russian oil company, has just secured final approval to build a new, 77-story headquarters right in the heart of St. Petersburg. And no one, it seems, is happy about that.
The sharpest criticism so far is that the tower, designed by Rmjm, has exactly no relation to the famously beautiful, low-slung city around it. (The city's current tallest building, the Peter and Paul Cathedral, is just 400 feet high.) According to Time, the U.N. has already said that the tower might threaten central St Petersburg's designation as a World Heritage site. A reported 66% of city residents oppose the plan.
But none of that opposition compares to the looming power of Gazprom--this was,...
