Sex & Nudity

  • At some point the girlfriend is wearing a red sweater.
  • Woman in panties and t-shirt
  • Some conversations include sexual comments and references.
  • One incredibly graphic sexual insult in which a man threatens another man to have his "c-nt wife thrown in the street to be f-cked in the ass by n-ggers and Puerto Ricans".
  • In a blink and you'll miss it scene on a beach.
  • A clothed man and woman are in bed about to have sex. The scene cuts away before they do anything.

Violence & Gore

  • Most of the movie it is not that violent but in the end it gets violent and bloody. But it's not worse than like, for example, Pulp Fiction or Heat (1995). Thief is very, very tame today.
  • A man is shot with a shotgun. Lots of blood And chunks of meat is seen. (This death is very graphic)
  • A man is shot a few times in the chest and than the head (lots of blood squirts out)
  • A man is shot by another man (blood squirts out of the wounds)
  • A man is shot from a distance (no blood is shown)
  • Two police pull a man over, and make him get out of his car at gunpoint.
  • Several police officers beat up a man in a holding area.
  • Very little to no violence until the finale, which features about 4 bloody deaths. Other than that the film is pretty tame
  • 11 or 12+, and was back in 1981 in my humble opinion. Crime is not cool, and this movie shows that very good. :) It's even a 12 in France and Iceland. 13+ in Canadian Quebec.
  • Frank is threatned by his really pissed-off boss in a car workshop in one scene, in which he describes what he will do to Frank if he keep refusing to do his 'job'. That's one reason for me considering Thief to be an 11+ movie, it shows how it goes if you become criminal.
  • Several violent scenes showing an abundance of blood spray.

Profanity

  • 28 uses of "fuck," 16 uses of "shit," 3 uses of "damn," 2 uses of "prick," 11 uses of "ass," 3 uses of "bitch," 3 uses of "cock," 1 use of "nigger," 2 uses of "chink," 1 use of "wop" and 1 use of "cunt."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Several scenes takes place in a bar. No focus on drinking.
  • 'Dope' is mentioned.
  • The main character smokes cigarettes many times throughout the film.
  • A police officer smokes a cigar.
  • Occasional drinking/smoking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Most of the main characters are criminals, which may be intense for some viewers.
  • Some emotionally intense moments.
  • The climax is quite frightening.
  • The assault by the police officers is intense.
  • There are a couple of scenes where several mafia members violently assault a couple of people. For example, a man is punched several times, and another guy goes on a tirade of threats of what he'll do to him.
  • In another scene, a guy describes an incredibly violent, frightening rape story about prison. His story is about 5 minutes long.
