see this film.

i had never seen or heard of this movie before, but being a big Sarah Jessica parker fan i purchased the DVD-yes it is available-at a music store in Sydney,Australia. it was at a bargain price of five dollars so i thought even if it was crap there would be no harm done. and what a surprise i received.the actual clarity of the film was not too great, but the movie itself was great. Sarah Jessica parker was so fun to watch at such a young age and she puts forward a great performance with an acting style that is so reminiscent of the top notch performances she gives to this day. a sweet, entertaining and funny at times little film that left me wondering why i hadn't heard of or seen before. definitely at the top of my collection.

What a neat movie!
katgood1 March 2005
I found this movie at Walmart for 88 cents - it was marked $1. I bought it because I really enjoy Sarah Jessica Parker's earlier stuff (not so much her later stuff, though), and I thought I would give it a try. At the very least, I was out less than a dollar.

I just finished watching it, and I must say, it is really interesting, and it has a great moral. You should always live life as if you knew you were going to die - and what would you do to make your life better. It's not about money, power, wealth, or any of those things that Hollywood would like you to believe, but it is about caring, second chances, and real love, and is about what life is really about.

Sure, it's low budget, and it is from the early 80's, but if you can get past that, it has a great message, and some of the acting is pretty good, too!

It's just too bad that Tom Shea was only in this movie, and in only one other movie - a pretty bad one at that. He was good in this one, and kinda cute, too.

All in all, I would rate it at a 7, simply for the message it contains. If you can manage to get your hands on a copy, I highly recommend it.

early SJP for fans
SnoopyStyle13 November 2016
Lori Anderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) fell off her horse and is in a coma. The movie is told in a flashback. She is still struggling to come to terms with her father's death. The family horse ranch is struggling. She's not happy that her mother Betty wants to remarry to Sheriff Alec Peiski. Terry Stockton is flying a single engine plane with his friend Paul Bart when they crash in the woods. Lori finds a terribly injured Terry. She falls off her horse and hits her head. When she comes to, she goes to look for her horse and finds Terry riding her. Later, she discovers that Terry is actually dead. They reveal his condition to Paul. While Terry can move stuff, she's the only one who can see him.

The production is bad. It looks like a weaker TV movie. SJP is cute. Her naivety is adorable although a bit silly. For her fans, this is definitely worth a watch. There is a pretty good twist in the end. For everybody else, the story concept is better than the overall execution.

This movie is so wonderful!!!! I love it!
Gabbyrenee2321155 June 2006
I loved Sex and The City, which is my favorite TV show...anyways ...I was given a copy of "Somewhere Tomorrow" as a gift from my grandmother about 4 years ago. I never took the time to watch it because I thought it was a crap movie....I finally watched it tonight with some friends, because we were bored and wanted something to do...while digging through my old movies...we came across this movie and said "Why not give it a try?" we did and the movie is so great! Its definitely a tear jerker! I love it! The ending really surprised me!!! Like I said I loved it! The quality is not that great...but the movie itself is lovely....I guess that is why my granny gave it to me....She died too so this reminds me of my grandmother for some strange yet cliché reason...anyways .....if you are into chick flicks take a shot at this movie!!! and remember live your DREAMS!!!! :) OK that last part was pretty tacky but so true!!!! :)

Ghost in the shower
BandSAboutMovies27 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A very young Sarah Jessica Parker - this was made right after Square Pegs went off the air - plays Lori Anderson, a girl who has lost her father in a plane crash. While her mother is moving on - she's selling the family farm and hooking up with the local lawman - Lori is lost. She turns to her father's esoteric journals for answers.

Meanwhile, Terry Stockton, a client coming to purchase a horse from Lori's mother, dies in a plane crash. Somehow, Lori is able to see and touch him. She believes that she can help him cross over to the next plane of existence, if she doesn't fall in love with him first.

Wrier/director Robert Wiemer also made the supernatural film Anna to the Infinite Power and The Night Train to Kathmandu, another movie where a young girl comes of age. I guess that's his bread and butter.

This also features a really young Elisabeth Shue and has a ghost who likes to take showers, which I did not realize was a thing. Also, spoilers and all, but speaking of showers, this totally has a Patrick Duffy ending.

So yeah. Some people cover Sundance and I write about Sarah Jessica Parker as a horsegirl who has near shower sex with an apparition. I accept my role.

Caught this on a weekend on FOX...
pummykin11 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
If you're a SJP fan, you'll probably like this film. I really like her, but the film itself was pretty weak.

It was hilarious to see all the bad 80's fashion that I was right there in the middle of during the same time! SJP was good in it, but it didn't make a lot of sense till the ending. Definitely a cute fantasy movie. Nice for a lazy weekend. I might buy it if I found it in the clearance rack somewhere.

I had a problem with Lori's really, really nasty feelings about her mom getting remarried changing so fast. She ran out and hugged her after a 2 minute conversation with Terry. That's a little quick for a teen to get over such an upset.

If you get the chance to see it, stick with it till the end to see SJP sing a song in the hospital. It's pretty cute.

A Rare 80's Gem.
scarlettelfin3 August 2005
This is one of those "6pm films" that used to be shown on BBC2 in the late 80's. I haven't seen it in YEARS, but I do remember that it really struck a chord with me, and I've never forgotten it. It was one of those films I'd forgotten the title of, and finally looked it up on here one day.

There were some hilarious, comedic moments between SJP and Tom Shea (I thought he was GORGEOUS back then!), and it was also very emotive - as I recall the ending made me cry (I was in my early teens then, so forgive me!).

I also remember that SJP had a really sweet singing voice. I'm going to have to see if I can get hold of this one from somewhere...

recommendation of early Sarah Jessica Parker film
hyattd316 August 2000
One of Sarah Jessica Parkers early films, Somewhere Tomorrow truly showcases her talent. An excellent family film. Explores a variety of teen issues in a tasteful manner. Also it is very well produced and directed. A MUST see for any true Sarah Jessica Parker fan.

Brilliant
scaredykat295 February 2007
I found this movie on DVD at the Dollar Store, and I am so glad I did. After watching it, I wondered why was it even considered to be sold at such a low price! It's a great movie to watch when you want to stay in or if you want your spirits lifted. I love the storyline and the cast! Tears are going to dribble down when you watch this movie because its so good! Sarah Jessica Parker shows a promising career in acting in this movie, at least I and the people I know that have seen her in this movie saw her shine. You are going to fall in love with Terry Stockton (Terry Shea) and Lori Anderson (Sarah Jessica Parker)! For a 1983 movie, it was fantastic and brilliantly done! For me, this movie is a classic!

we love!
taylorj-56 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
First of all we bought this movie as a joke from the 1 dollar bin. This is by far the best dollar bin find in the history of dollar bins. We bought because we've watched sex in the city and wanted to see Sarah Jessica Parkers early work. But the amount of enjoyment that we gained from watching this movie and Tom Shea's facial expressions was worth so much more then a dollar. This movie is as touching as it is cheesy and strangely unpredictable.Sarah Jessicas wardrobe was not only highly enjoyable but rather classy. Our only wish was that the final kiss at the end was longer. This movie was a pleasant surprise and is now a favourite in our collection We advise you that if you ever come across this film in a dollar bin BUY IT!

"Wow a horse!" -Tom Shea

Wonderful must see movie!
ladykristel_73 August 2003
One of my friends and I happened to rent this movie from a blockbuster in Utah a few years ago and it ended up being one of our favorite movies. This movie is a must see, we have never stopped having fun quoting it, however sadly enough later when we tried to rent the movie, it was no longer there and they never got any new copies. We have tried finding other places that have it, and we have even looked on amazon.com but it isn't there. Please bring back this movie it is the coolest and cheesiest!

Haunting
Mark-12910 February 2005
Micro budget films don't get any better than this. There's something about the simplicity of both the star performances by Sarah Jessica Parker and Tom Shea and the Earnest script that speaks of truthfulness, Director Robert Wiemer works well with young actors and his writing is full of realistic dialog filmed on a budget.

The story follows young Lori Anderson, grieving over the loss of her father and angry that her mother has begun to pick up the pieces of her life with a new serious relationship. She meets Terry Stockton at the site of a private plane crash, only to realize he was killed in the crash. Together, they begin to piece together the reason Terry has remained earthbound as a ghost...and if it has anything to do with Lori.

Full of surprises, I'm still not sure of Terry's "true" identity. The script offers vague clues to another possibility. The song lyrics were apparently written by future "Star Trek" czar Rick Berman! He may have missed his calling.

In the end, this is a very good family film, that has the rare quality of never talking down to it's audience, whether child or adult and awaits a well deserved discovery with a DVD release.

Check it out!

Best movie ever A+++++
benjilvr9200330 December 2006
This movie may be old but it is one of the best movies i have ever seen. I've seen many movies but none quite like this one. I give it an A+++++. I wonder what ever happened to Tom Shea he was really good in this movie. My mom had bought it , at first i didn't really want to watch it because it looked extremely old then, i finally came across to it, so i started to watch it and got really interested. I actually felt lke i was part of the movie, i got so into it that i actually started to cry. I really loved the ending it was onw of the best endings in a movie by far that i have seen. Also, when they met up together and Terry said "I love you too much" I totally felt butterflies in my stomach. Just an awesome movie.

Touching, romantic story!
Seraphynth15 September 2003
A very early appearance of a young Sarah Jessica Parker, this sweet touching early 1980's movie is a wonderful family drama. A moving storyline, it is a wonderful look at too up and coming stars, Parker and her co-star Tom Shea. Well written with a great twist at the end, I'd have to say that it is one of my all time favorites. A perfect choice to be re-released on DVD, and additionally the excellent soundtrack, many songs sung by Sarah Jessica Parker herself!

A charming and touching fantasy sleeper
Woodyanders22 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Troubled Lori Anderson (superbly played by Sarah Jessica Parker) is trying to recover from the untimely death of her father in a plane crash. Nice young Terry Stockton (a solid and likable performance by Tom Shea) also dies in a plane crash, but his spirit lives on and forms a special bond with Lori. Lori and Terry have to figure out together why he's still here. Writer/director Robert Wiemer delivers a thoughtful, moving and funny meditation on appreciating being alive, learning to cope with tragedy, and getting on with your life. The fine acting from a tip-top cast qualifies as a real significant plus. Shea and Parker make for a very engaging, if decidedly offbeat on-screen couple; the chemistry between them is really sweet and palpable. They receive excellent support from Nancy Addison as Lori's concerned mom Betty, Rick Weber as Betty's decent, amiable cop boyfriend Alec Peiski, and Paul Bates as Terry's jolly best pal Paul Bart. Glenn Kershaw's polished cinematography and Paul Baillargeon's lovely, low-key score are both up to speed. Parker even sings a couple of wonderfully uplifting songs. A warm, gentle and affecting little gem.

Weird
gena_s19 April 2002
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those movies that you vaguely remember seeing as a child. You remember it was about a girl falling in love with a ghost...who almost becomes a ghost herself...who falls off a horse...whose father died...What was that movie about anyway, you ask yourself? Usually, when you think a movie's weird it's because it's been so many years since you've watched it that you forget all the details. That's not the case with this film. It's just as odd as you remember.

SPOILERS A-PLENTY!!! DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING.

Sarah Jessica Parker (who's quite good in this) plays a girl who has just lost her father. Her mother could care less and is cavorting with a new guy. They kiss but she won't sleep with him until her daughter accepts him. She's adamant that the daughter does. "I won't let her steamroll over me!" she yells. The daughter goes riding one day near a low-flying plane. The plane goes down. In it are two teen boys. The girl tried to get help, but falls off her horse. She wakes up, starts looking for her horse who ran away 'cause it got spooked. Then she sees the horse, and one of the boys from the accident is riding it. But then she hears he's dead. How can this be? He's a ghost! Sent here so she can come to grips with her hatred of her Mom's boyfriend. There are some weird romantic scenes between her and the ghost which I think qualifies as necrophlia. She finally accepts her Mom's love and her Mom marries him. But the ghost has left...Then we see her in a hospital. Turns out none of the stuff (besides the accident and her falling off the house) actually happened! Like that episode of Dallas, IT WAS ALL A DREAM. She's been in a coma since she's been knocked off the horse. The ghost appears to her at the final moment telling her it's not her time. She gets better and sings the sappy theme song to some elderly hospital residents. But then--lo and behold--who does she see? That's right--the ghost! But he's not a ghost. Turns out he never died. And he's just now getting better from the accident, like she is. As she wheels him out of the room (he's in a wheelchair) he asks, Would you like to go SOMEWHERE TOMORROW? And she smiles.

Awesome movie A+++
managinglife0418 September 2005
I love this movie, now I'm trying to find the songs to it. I recommend this movie to all teens and families... I love the songs. They're so relaxing says a lot if you listen to it. I love the part where she Sara Sings. Recommended to lovers also. Makes you realize how much you care 4 someone when you lose a love one. Trying to hang onto that love and not being able to let go and live for yourself. It only gets better if you let it...over all its pretty good actually excellent. I need to find the songs like I said earlier. What did you think about when the plane went down and then the movie got sorta twisted. It was weird but watch the movie and you'll understand,I'm not giving anything else away.

Loved it
slayer-638-1893818 January 2010
I have to say my daughter and I picked this movie up at you guessed it the Dollar store it is on DVD that holds 2 films. So it was actually 50 cents per movie. Both my daughter and I loved it, my daughter is 17 and she was all misty eyed and giggles by the end of the movie. It was beautiful my only complaint was the cover of the DVD package contained witchcraft symbols which had nothing to do with the movie. So I suppose many people hoping for a scary movie will be disappointed and those who don't buy it because of the images on the cover are missing out on a great family movie most Christian families would love. All in all it was a great movie. And I loved it.

I remember seeing this
fearfulflare5 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I guess anything you say about a movie could be considered a spoiler, so I checked the box anyway. I remember seeing this movie on TV years ago when I was still living at home. I like this movie. It has an unexpected happy ending. I'm glad I spotted it in the dollar bin at Wal Mart. It would be nice if other old movies where made available. Just post a list of old movies online and if someone wanted one they could burn a copy and send it in the mail to ya. I guess that may or not be someday tomorrow. I also like the song at the end. I never watch Sex and the city, so that show really had nothing to do with why I bought this movie.

Ghost story, but more touching and funny than spooky (SPOILERS)
vchimpanzee10 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Lori's mother wants to marry Alex, a police officer, after her father dies, and Lori is not happy about the idea.

When the movie opens, Alex is using his lights and sirens to rush to the hospital, where Lori is in a coma.

Later, Lori has made a miraculous recovery and is watching the movie 'Topper'. Obviously, the event that put her in the hospital hasn't happened.

Paul and Terry go up in a plane which is having problems that they decide to ignore. While riding her horse, Lori witnesses their plane crashing and decides to go for help. She hits her head, but she seems fine, and when she sees him again, Terry is in remarkably good shape considering everything. They go to the hospital to see Paul, but people ignore Terry. Later we find out why: Lori and Terry both see Terry's father identify Terry's body. Lori realizes Terry must be a ghost, but no one believes she can see him, blaming her visions on being hit in the head.

The best scenes have Lori and Terry together. As the movie progresses, there is more comedy, particularly when Paul gets involved. Lori, Terry and Paul are all quite likeable, and the actor playing Paul's father does a good job. I didn't care for Lori's mother or Alex.

***********************SPOILERS FOLLOW*********************************

After Terry 'leaves' Lori wants to commit suicide and reunite with him. She dies briefly in the hospital and sees him again. She doesn't want her to leave, but he persuades her to return to life. There is a happy ending because ...

******* YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO READ THIS *************************** ... she imagined everything after hitting her head. Terry never died.

Unsatisfying family film
Wizard-823 November 2013
Based on some of the other user comments here, there is a chance that "Somewhere, Tomorrow" may appeal to children and teenagers. I'm not in any of those categories, which may explain why I wasn't moved by this movie. For starters, I thought it was poorly paced, frequently taking much longer to get to key moments than it would in another movie. Despite this, there are also a lot of moments that seem missing from the movie, moments that would properly explain things. There are some somewhat sweet moments between the main female character and her ghost friend, but seldom did their conversations get into much depth. And the "twist ending" is not a surprise at all, since they telegraph what will happen in the very first scene of the movie! If you are wondering about future star Sarah Jessica Parker, her performance here is okay, but shows no signs of what made her a superstar in the years to come.
