You can watch all these movies on Prime Video.
10. The Shape of Things to Come (1979)
The Earth is uninhabitable and now, humanity lives on the Moon under domes. Things aren’t looking too bad until a madman known as the “robot master” declares he’ll destroy the remains of the civilization — and what do you know? Only three people and a robot can stop him and prevent the tragedy! Sounds familiar?
9. Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (1983)
Spacehunter doesn’t directly borrow from Star Wars — except for its characters and locations, of course. In this movie, three women get stranded on an Earth-like planet, but there’s an issue: the planet is effectively ruled over by a mutant warlord, and now two bounty hunters race to save the women from his clutches before it’s too late.
8. The Humanoid (1979)
Planet Metropolis is ruled by a good-natured man. This would have...

Bootsy Collins presides over a kaleidoscopic funktopia in the video for his new song “Hip Hop Lollipop,” a remake of “Club Funkateers” from his recent album, The Power of the One. The clip features Hamburg artist Fantaazma rapping and dancing around clips of Collins singing the “Funkateers” chorus — “How much you got, how much you gon’ get?” The song features a virtuosic bass solo break by Victor Wooten that’s so hot sparks come flying off his instrument in the clip, as well as impressive saxophone licks by Branford Marsalis.

The debate over Mass Effect 3‘s ending (every version of it) isn’t going to be settled anytime soon, but it certainly seems telling that more and more people over the years have started to treat the game’s “Happy Ending” mod as the RPG trilogy’s spiritual conclusion (even if it’s clearly not the canonical one).
Audemus’ Happy Ending Mod has been floating around the internet for a few years now, but the mod’s recent Mass Effect Legendary Edition update has many people buzzing about this alternate ending that, as the name suggests, aspires to offer a slightly happier and generally more complete conclusion for Shepard and the crew of the Normandy.
What makes this ending so happy, though? Well…quite a lot, actually, but here’s an overview of what this mod is all about and why so many people are rushing to download it in...

John Lafia, who co-wrote 1988 horror film “Child’s Play” and also co-wrote and directed “Child’s Play 2,” died by suicide on April 29 in Los Angeles. He was 63.
Lafia collaborated with Tom Holland and Don Mancini on the horror movie screenplay, and was credited with coining the name “Chucky” and contributed the famous line, “Hi, I’m Chucky, wanna play?” In 1988, the original “Child’s Play” went on to top the box office and received a Saturn award for best horror film, as well as a nomination for best writing. He also received a writing credit on the 2019 remake.
“Child’s Play” creator and screenwriter Don Mancini said in a statement provided by Lafia’s family, “We’re devastated to hear of the passing of our friend John Lafia. He was a crucial part of the ‘Chucky’ family from the very beginning. He co-wrote the original ‘Child’s Play’ script along with director Tom Holland and myself,...

The success of Star Wars inspired a legion of similarly themed rip-offs. Here, Rob salutes some of the best and worst…
1977 was a big year for sci-fi, given that it's when George Lucas first gave the world Star Wars. And while it's been said that George himself 'borrowed' from a lot of other films to make the original trilogy (and from a lot of poor computer games for the latter ones), there were those who jumped on the sci-fi bandwagon at the time and tried, no matter what the quality, to give us more space opera fun.
Here, then, we salute 11 films and TV shows that tried to be another Star Wars....
Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan (1982)
How can Star Trek copy Star Wars? Well, for the first outing on the big screen for Trek, the premise was a big, galactic cerebral space epic, filled with more high-brow...

By the late 1970s, Roger Corman had already produced a pair of Jaws ripoffs -- one (Piranha) quite entertaining and the other (Up from the Depths) not so much -- and the uber-producer was about to set his sights on sci-fi with flicks like Battle Beyond the Stars, Galaxy of Terror, Forbidden World, Android, Space Raiders, etc. But that didn't stop the notoriously prolific schlock-master from pumping out one more low-budget tale of waterlogged horror and wet, sticky ickiness. One can almost hear the brief pitch meeting for 1980's Humanoids from the Deep (aka Monster), and it probably went something like this: "Remember the Creature from the Black Lagoon? Well, let's get a dozen of those freaks and this time we...

Horror fanatics are still buzzing like chainsaws over the Academy Awards’ genre montage. Anywhere there could be a conversation about it online, there was one. Many were upset over the Twilight ‘tweens’ participation, as if their mere presence sent a message about the state of scary in Hollyweird, USA.
A few seemed happy, though, to just get a glimpse of their beloved Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 if only for a few seconds. But many called the selections generic and thoughtless, demanding the likes of Demons and TerrorVision instead (well, maybe not TerrorVision; that was just me).
How about Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer? Re-Animator? It’s Alive? Tombs of the Blind Dead? Coffin Joe? No list is perfect, but with a bit more care and a phone call to any one of us, the Oscars could have elevated that section into a real scream. Or maybe they...

It should come as no surprise to learn that there will be a new DVD of the original Piranha to go along with this summer's 3-D remake; that sort of release is nothing new, especially if you're a horror fan. But what is particularly exciting, provided you're a fan of horror, schlock, and/or Roger Corman in general, is this: In just a few months the fine folks at Shout! Factory will be unleashing all sorts of Cormanized craziness.
In April we'll get a long-awaited re-issue of Joe Dante's Piranha, which is arguably one of Corman's finest productions -- even if it is a thinly-veiled Jaws wannabe. Your choice of standard special edition or blu-ray. Yes, that's right: Piranha on blu-ray. Pinch me. But don't pinch yet. It gets better: In the following weeks Shout! Factory will also dole out Humanoids from the Deep (yes!), the beloved Death Race 2000 and its follow-up Deathsport,...
