Sex & Nudity

  • There's a lot of sa mentions in the show but two current storylines are still running as of now, Linda's rape and rapist are mentioned in almost every episode and a new storyline on grooming and trauma around sa has just been released, in far more detail and distress given there's still a lot to unpack.
  • Kissing scenes and characters in bed implying sex
  • Some references to sexual violence and assault, although these references are always negative, and bring a huge impact to the main storyline.
  • Themes including, teen pregnancy, underage sex, using "condoms", including other multiple references to sexual behaviour.
  • Some mild sexual innuendos.

Violence & Gore

  • Some use of mild violence and sometimes moderate violence. Many episodes result in characters fighting and beating each other up, and being all of the following, punched, being ran over, drowned, stabbed, shot.
  • There have been moments when characters have been repetitively tortured and threatened, then being beaten into talking.

Profanity

  • a few uses of b*stard are used
  • Shit is occasionally used
  • recently characters started saying tit
  • Despite being a pre-watershed production, there is some occasional mild language heard in some episodes used to make situations more realistic in dialogue.
  • Since it's before the watershed there is no 'strong' language.
  • Some uses of "bloody" "hell" "pratt", infrequent use of "bitch".
  • A lot of name calling and East London slang. Some insulting terms, "cow" "mug" "slapper" "slut" "slag" and alot of other mild East End slang.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Multiple characters have had acholism in the past but one character is still struggling and we see how it impacts her family, life and children.
  • Characters smoke cigarettes in many episodes.
  • Many issues include characters drinking and consuming alcohol, including alcohol addiction, since the main area most characters socialise is set inside a pub.
  • Some soft and hard drug references, and occasionally drug use is briefly shown.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • EastEnders is a very emotional programme which will at some point upset most viewers
  • Race and homophobic attacks are frequent
  • A 10 year old knifes his 11 year old bully he would have shot him had he been able to locate the gun
  • A teenager stuggles with self-harm, the storyline has been dropped as for now she's clean but her parents are always on edge.
  • EastEnders is a soap opera with mature themes, which viewers could find upsetting and could emotionally relate to.
  • Including themes such as "murder" "revenge" "miscarriage" "abortion" "terminal illnesses" "affairs" "alcohol addiction" "drug addiction" "suicide" "sexual violence (rape)" "sexuality problems" and almost all kinds of realistic everyday life issues.
  • Sensitive viewers could find these topics upsettling/disturbing/frightening/intense.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Back in 2020 a horrific boat crash incident happened which took the live of a young boy
  • In February of 2022 it is revealed that a character that was being held captive was blown up in a gas explosion we see rats near by and her rotten corpse.
