This film feels like a TV movie with an issue to dramatize rather than a coherent story fit for cinematic consumption. Visually, it lacks panache and flair and comes across as an adult version of the Australian soap-opera Home and Away. This is where the film fails. The story is grim yet the characters seem detached from the script - as if they are merely cogs in a genre, moving along with the clichéd conventions of the story. The social realism so beloved by Australian film is evident here but the script lacks depth which is a shame considering how good some of the actors are. To sum up, not that bad a film; but not that good either.
