It’s been a long journey for The CW to snatch that Kung Fu pebble from the master’s (Warner Bros.) hand, but the new reboot of Kung Fu could not have come at a better time.
Issues of diversity and representation have been at the forefront of our cultural conversations for years now. The rise in Asian hate crimes – nearly a 150% increase in 2020 – has made #StopAsianHate a frequent trending topic on social media. For The CW to launch a show with a Chinese leading actress and a largely Asian cast right now makes a bold statement for inclusivity that lives up to the network’s longstanding slogan “Dare to Defy.”
What’s more, Kung Fu is promoting itself as an Asian family drama which could fill a newly opened gap. Two wildly successful Asian family sitcoms just went off the air – ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat ended its...

The iconic 1970s TV series, Kung Fu, is set for a movie remake with Universal Pictures, which has appointed director David Leitch.
Kung Fu will soon walk the Earth silhouetted against a sunset background toward random rounds of austere ass-kicking for a big screen remake.
Universal Pictures has optioned the rights for a Kung Fu film adaptation, as Deadline reports. The studio is already moving forward, having just placed the project in a recently-proven set of hands with the appointment of director David Leitch, who successfully steered its lucrative Fast & Furious franchise ship to spinoff success with 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which earned $758.9 million worldwide. The studio is quickly searching for a writer to handle the script off which Leitch will work. Universal Executive Vice President of Production Matt Reilly is overseeing the project for the studio.

Fox is moving forward with a reboot of 1970s series Kung Fu, this time showcasing a female lead and a change of setting...
The template-setting 1970s television series Kung Fu will be the next classic property to go the reboot route. A bidding war amongst networks saw Fox emerge victorious, granting it the rights to revive and update the action-adventure drama, which starred the late David Carradine, this time with a new female hero. Moreover, fans of The CW’s DC comics extended universe shows may welcome the notion, since it will feature the involvement of its continuity godfather, Greg Berlanti.
Fox’s Kung Fu acquisition is a done deal and intriguing plans for the new approach are already in place for a reboot pilot, reports Deadline. Greg Berlanti and his repertory collaborator Wendy Mericle have been tapped as executive producers; an idea that’s fitting, since...

After dedicating the last five years of his career to playing Bill Henrickson on the HBO series Big Love, it seems that Bill Paxton is itching to get back to the director's chair. Back in 2001, the actor he made his directorial debut with the thriller Frailty, and then followed that up with the golf drama The Greatest Game Ever Played. Now he is in the process of lining up his next project, and it's definitely not something I ever would have expected to see him attached to. Word on the street is that Paxton may be helming a big screen adaptation of the '70s TV series Kung Fu, a project that has been stuck in development hell for many years. Patience, young grasshopper... patience. The original TV series starred the late David Carradine as a Shaolin monk named Kwai Chang Caine who wandered through the American Old West in search of his half-brother.

Part Two: Johnny Depp? Christian Slater? Bon Jovi?! Casting Eric Draven
By Ryan J. Downey
Before "The Crow," Brandon Lee's biggest role was in "Rapid Fire," an above-average action flick carried mostly by his grace, charm and combination of various martial arts styles years before the phrase "Mma" was popularized. His other credits included "Showdown in Little Tokyo" opposite Dolph Lundgren, little seen low-budget foreign action flicks "Laser Mission" and "Legacy of Rage" and the televised "Kung Fu: The Movie," with David Carradine.
Brandon dropped nearly 40 lbs. to play Eric Draven and was deeply involved in his characterization and fight choreography. His performance was at once...
