Jennifer Lopez-starring sci-fi flick was intended to reign supreme in Netflix’s global top for a long time, even though it gained a shameful 19% of critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it took only a week for it to lose its first place in the chart.
Atlas is now topped by a very unlikely thriller that, however, has managed to attract quite a strong viewership this weekend. It’s clearly a must-watch for those who enjoy twisted police procedurals and shocking true crime stories about serial killers.
The movie starts by depicting the aftermath of a relentless murder, as a girl’s body is found on a beach with her lips cut off. It turns out that it’s really reminiscent of another murder, but the point is, it happened 15 years ago, and that case was closed unsolved.
The prosecutor tries to reopen it while investigating the new crime,...

Diablo 4‘s massive Season 4 update has been out for a couple of weeks. In that time, fans have discovered not just reasons to fall in love with the game again but some truly broken new builds capable of surviving even the game’s toughest challenges.
So if you’re finally working your way to Diablo 4‘s massive new endgame, here are what some of the game’s best players think the best builds are for every class.
Best Diablo 4 Barbarian Build: Dust Devil Double Swing
Full Build
Try to be surprised, but there are actually several viable Barbarian builds out there at the moment. No matter how hard they try, Blizzard just can’t keep that class down for long.
While there is a debate over the absolute best Barbarian build, this Double Swing Dust Devil build from Diablo 4 streamer (and Barbarian god) Rob2628 may be your best overall bet for most endgame content.

Marvel Studios has gone back to the drawing board with the MCU, returning to a quality-over-quantity approach which we anticipate seeing come into effect starting with Deadpool & Wolverine this summer.
Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars are still on the horizon, but which comic book storylines can Kevin Feige and company adapt both before, after, and potentially in those movies?
In this feature, we're taking a look at some Marvel Universe events which are perfectly suited to the big screen. From epic team-ups to massive crossovers and storylines which put specific characters front and centre, all of these could have a positive impact on the MCU in the years ahead.
To find out which comic book events we've singled out (and when/where they could happen), tap the "Next"/"View List" button below.
8. Spider-Island

Blackout.I had saved my question about Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) until the last possible minute. Larry Fessenden, a disarmingly amiable man with an edge to his self-deprecating humor I recognized only too well, has a new werewolf movie out. If you know Larry’s movies—No Telling (1991), Habit (1995), Wendigo (2001), The Last Winter (2006), Beneath (2013), Depraved (2019), and now Blackout (2023)—you know it’s never just a matter of a monster. As we dug into its story of a lycanthropic curse doubling as a metaphor for an artist’s alcoholism and a town’s despair at a recent solar eclipse, I could see Larry the filmmaker turn into Larry the eager, devoted student and fan under the half-light of the black sun.Fessenden appears in the final minutes of Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), like a harbinger of the future’s unforgiving gaze, as an actor on the mid-century...

Marvel teased a Midnight Suns project during the Sdcc 2021 weekend alongside the two ensemble projects, Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars. Nothing was made official about the team-up film which could feature all the occult heroes in the MCU. It was rumored that Michael Giacchino, the director of the Disney+ special Werewolf by Night, would helm this project. However, fans are now demanding that Kevin Feige bring in Fede Álvarez for the project.

There have been rumblings for several years now that Marvel Studios is developing a Midnight Suns movie revolving around the McU's supernatural heroes.
It may have taken a big step forward recently, however, as scooper @MyTimeToShineH is claiming that Kevin Feige is keen on filmmaker Fede Álvarez taking the helm of the project.
He's no stranger to horror after directing Evil Dead, Don't Breathe, and the upcoming Alien: Romulus. He also wrote Don't Breathe 2 and penned the story for 2022's Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Given the positive buzz surrounding the next Alien movie, this rumour makes a lot of sense.
Interestingly, Werewolf by Night director and regular MCU composer Michael Giacchino is also said to be an option after his impressive work with the Marvel Studios Special Presentation.

We had learned about an interesting horror project earlier this month titled Wolf Night, a werewolf movie set to be directed by Jonathan Liebesman. The film has been compared to both District 9 and The Purge… with werewolves… and Deadline brings us a big update this week.
The hot Platinum Dunes package has been picked up by Screen Gems, Deadline informs us, with Michael Bay and Brad Fuller producing Wolf Night for Platinum Dunes.
Will Honley and April Maguire wrote the screenplay for Wolf Night, but aside from the comparisons to the aforementioned movies, the plot is under wraps at this time.
Jonathan Liebesman’s directorial credits over the years also include Rings (2005), The Killing Room (2009), Wrath of the Titans (2012), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014).
Will Honley recently wrote Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.

There is exciting news for Marvel’s Contest of Champions fans as Kabam has announced two new characters. One of which is a far cry from the much-loved character we know them to be, whilst the other is the result of the recent player vote from a selection of villains to find the worst of the worst.

Marvel president Kevin Feige is allegedly trying to once again stabilize the Marvel Cinematic Universe after countless attempts at creating good movies equivalent to Phase 3 of the MCU. After Avengers: Endgame, the MCU’s fame started collapsing.
In recent news, Kevin Feige seems to want to stabilize things with a new movie and go back to their roots. With Michael Giacchino set as the director and Midnight Sons allegedly confirmed, it seems that its time for the MCU to make a comeback!

A couple months ago, we heard a rumor that a team of supernatural characters known as the Midnight Sons might be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe… and now Oscar Isaac has let it be known that if a Midnight Sons project were to happen, he wants his MCU character Moon Knight to be part of it!
As I’ve said before, one of my favorite comic book story arcs is the “Rise of the Midnight Sons”, where Doctor Strange oversaw the formation of a team of supernatural heroes – Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, Morbius, the Nightstalkers, and Darkhold characters Vicki Montesi, Louise Hastings, and Sam Buchanan – who were brought together to battle Lilith, the Mother of All Demons, and her evil offspring, the Lilin. It’s been almost two years since we last reported on Steven C. Miller‘s werewolf movie Year 2,starring Frank Grillo. The filmmaker has offered recent updates on social media, teasing that the long wait for action werewolf carnage is nearly over and that it appears to have a new title: Werewolves.
The premise for Werewolves is described as “a supermoon event caused a latent gene to turn everyone exposed to the moonlight into a werewolf for one night. Millions died—and now, the supermoon is back.”
Katrina Law (“NCIS”) stars alongside Grillo as the brilliant geneticist, Dr. Amy Chen, who goes on a dangerous journey with Grillo’s character to saved loved ones, against a ticking clock.
That setup sounds like The Purge: Anarchy but with werewolves, and we’re so in.

In the board game The Werewolves of Thiercelieux, inspired by Werewolf, paranoia and mistrust ensues as players seek to uncover the hidden identity of a werewolf in their midst. Netflix unveiled a first look image at Family Pack this morning, a French comedy that adapts the game for what looks to be a fun werewolf romp.
As if that’s not intriguing enough, the cast includes Léon: The Professional actor Jean Reno!
The logline for Family Pack: “After discovering a mysterious card game, a family is thrust back in time to a medieval village where they must fend off dangerous werewolves each night.”
François Uzan (“Lupin”) helms the family-friendly feature.
The first look image gives us a peek at the cast of players unwittingly thrust into the werewolf fray. That includes Franck Dubosc, Jean Reno, Suzanne Clément, Jonathan Lambert, and Gregory Fitoussi.

Up Front & Letters
Dak uses some of the Up Front space in this issue to publish more letters. It’s all to do with this being the end of Ci’s first year and everyone involved is in a mood to celebrate. The letters are basically singing the praises of a job well done and it showcases how well it is selling across the country. There is nothing to write home about in Up Front. Only more of Dak highlighting a good year and rightfully so. He points out how most of not all of the comics featured in Ci have been hits with the fans. On a personal level, #6 of Comics Interview was a big deal because of fans wanting to know about the fallout from the Jla/Avengers incident. East Coast distribution sold out completely. All the good stuff is in the usual letters pages at the back.

Going into 2023, Marvel Studios was still busy licking their wounds from the previous year. Grindhouse is one of the most influential box office failures of the 21st century. Despite grossing a paltry $25.4 million at the box office on a budget of around $60 million, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 love letter to exploitation cinema has managed to spawn four spin-off movies — Machete, Machete Kills, Hobo with a Shotgun, and now Thanksgiving— in addition to reintroducing a vintage aesthetic that has been mimicked by countless other throwback movies.
Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof each have their merits — the former plays like a satirical pastiche of nonstop action, while the latter is more indicative of genuine exploitation fare — but Grindhouse is more than just a double feature. It’s an experience, complete with faux aging to recreate the look of beat-up film prints along with vintage interstitials and retro-inspired trailers for nonexistent movies.

We can admit it now. The Marvels bombed.
Marvel has had some misfires before, but they usually happened only on the critical end. Audiences still rushed to see panned flicks like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Thor: Love & Thunder. But with The Marvels, audiences and critics came together to express their dissatisfaction. No one thing explains the problems. Like its predecessor Captain Marvel, bad faith reviews flooded the internet with people mad about lady superheroes, but numerous, and legitimate, other culprits led to the downfall: from superhero fatigue to a nonsense story combined with obnoxious editing, to separation from the larger shared universe.
In short, The Marvels comes at a key point in the MCU experiment, one whose failures and successes illuminate the way forward for the company. But rest assured, there is a way forward, and we have a few of our own silly ideas about how to navigate that.

The heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have visited some fantastic planets. The deadly and mystical Vormir, the rat-tag assemblage on Nowhere, and Ego the Living Planet have all offered exciting new storytelling possibilities. But none capture the imagination like Aladana, visited by Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) in The Marvels. After Carol dons a striking headpiece and warns her compatriots about the planet’s oddness, a representative arrives to greet the heroes… in song.
What follows is a brief musical number, borrowing equally from Bollywood blockbusters and technicolor musicals of a bygone age. Director Nia DaCosta floats her camera around and above the dancers, taking in the luscious colors popping against the bleached white backgrounds. At the climax of the scene, Carol’s costume transforms into an elegant dress befitting a Disney princess,...

I miss the days where virtually every TV show would have their own Halloween special, but there still are some shows that are keeping the Halloween spirit alive and we have exclusive details on Dancing with the Stars' Monster Night! Taking place on Halloween night, the special episode will feature Halloween costumes, spooky songs and Halloween-themed routines, and the return of the “Dance Monster-thon"!
"The evening promises to be a ghoulishly good time, featuring guest judge, actress and host Niecy Nash-Betts, plus the return of the Dance Marathon, “Dance Monster-thon.” All nine couples are set to join the ballroom floor at the same time, first dancing a Hustle and then a Charleston. The judges will tap-out couples from the marathon, one at a time. After a trip to theaters last month, Bloody Disgusting and Screambox‘s summer camp-themed horror-comedy Shaky Shivers is now streaming on Screambox and VOD platforms.
Fast & Furious actor Sung Kang makes his directorial debut on the creature feature that features stand-out performances from newcomers Brooke Markham and Vyvy Nguyen, as well as practical effects from Gabe Bartalos.
In Shaky Shivers…
“After finding herself bitten by a mysterious animal, Lucy becomes convinced that she will transform into a fearsome werewolf.
“Joined by her best friend Karen, the two embark on a wild adventure filled with magic and mayhem, as they look to do battle with a throat-slashing creature ripped right out of an 80s horror movie.“
Shaky Shivers is written by Andrew McAllister and Aaron Strongoni.
“The whole idea was to make this for the old-school horror hounds and for them to share it with their families today,” said Kang.

One of the highlights of this year’s Halloween celebration from Disney+ is the return of Marvel Studios’ special Werewolf by Night, which claws its way back into our lives in Full Color.
The Disney+ Halloween special was unleashed last year in black & white, giving it a classic horror throwback feel. This will be the first time you’ll be able to watch the special in color.
Werewolf by Night in Color premieres Friday, October 20, only on Disney+.
Now presented in vibrant color, Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night in Color takes place on a dark and somber night as a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader.
Marvel previews, “In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a...

"More terrifying, more gruesome, all in color." Marvel Studios has unveiled a brand new 2023 trailer for their spin-off Halloween "Special Presentation" event called Werewolf by Night. It initially debuted last year during October as a one-off, one-hour-long B&w horror film from Marvel, directed by famed composer Michael Giacchino. It's now being re-released fully in color in 2023 (as "Werewolf by Night in Color"). The special stars the wonderfully talented actor Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell, a lycanthrope superhero who fights crime using the abilities given to him by a curse brought on by his bloodline. The great cast also includes Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Eugenie Bondurant, & Kirk R. Thatcher. The film introduces a whole bunch of new monsters from the Marvel universe, most notably the big lovable tree monster "Man-Thing" aka "Ted". I thought it played just fine in B&w last year, but I guess I'll watch it again in color this year.

Ahead of its 39th edition, Poland’s Warsaw Film Festival is betting on timely topics.
“The role of filmmakers, and artists in general, is to react,” says festival director Stefan Laudyn.
“For years, we have been showing films that criticize the situation in various countries, not just in Poland. We try to avoid puff pieces.”
While there is space for “lighter topics” as well, supporting Ukraine – and Ukrainian filmmakers – remains one of the priorities.
“We initiated the first solidarity action with Ukraine back in 2014, after the annexation of Crimea, we also supported Oleg Sentsov. Last year, we featured the entire Ukrainian competition from Odesa International Film Festival, which couldn’t take place due to the war.”
This year, eight Ukrainian productions and co-productions will be shown at the fest. Including “Diagnosis: Dissent” by Denys Tarasov, about punitive psychiatry used by the Kgb, and Taras Dron’s “The Glass House,” where...

“So last December, of ’22, I was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, or Mds, and multiple smoldering myeloma, two blood and bone marrow disorders,” he said in a nearly two-minute video posted on X/Twitter (watch it below). “Over the past many months, I’ve had three bone marrow biopses, many chemo treatments — I have another one coming in a couple of weeks — and I’m closing in on a blood stem-cell transplant.”
York, who tweeted last week that he “will be taking a brief hiatus from the show in a few weeks,” also spoke directly to viewers about their possibly becoming a bone marrow donor for him or “thousands of others.” He directed folks to bethematch.org/matchformac.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continued expanding further following the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, the studio started developing television series for Disney+, which mainly served to either introduce new characters into the franchise or give spin-offs to popular supporting characters. One of the former series was ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,’ a legal comedy that premiered in August 2022 and ran for nine episodes.
‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ was a unique series for MCU at the time of its release. Since Deadpool hasn’t joined the franchise yet, Tatiana Maslany’s titular character became the first MCU hero who broke the fourth wall. The series received positive reviews from critics, particularly for Maslany’s performance, but the audience criticized the series for its visual effects, humor, and a lot of filler content. You’d think Christmas horror films up until now had covered it all. Where can you go after all the killer Santas, snowmen and elves? Well, not too long ago, Krampus was the new thing for genre filmmakers to make a holiday film about and there’s been a few decent movies on that subject – none better than the 2015 film. Last year we got a couple of great new Christmas-themed horror movies with Violent Night seeing David Harbour as Santa saving Christmas and a family and the even more original but brilliantly violent Christmas Bloody Christmas, which featured a killer robotic Santa on the loose. 2023 doesn’t seem to be the year where Christmas horror runs out of ideas because now we are getting Werewolf Santa.

Hey all! John Fallon here aka The Arrow. Our docu-series, Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian: 80’s Horror Memories (binge it here), which thoroughly explores the decade in horror, is now 15 episodes in. We just wrapped 1980, 1981 and 1982 and we are about to go in balls deep into 1983 this coming Monday, August 28 on our JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel.
A series of this ilk doesn’t happen by itself, it takes an army of producers, writers, editors and our sole narrator to make the magic happens. So we thought it would be dandy to get our core staff to share with you their 10 favorite (not best) horror movies from the 80’s. Yes, it was tough on all of us to pick just 10 – but we knocked a few back and did what we could. Scroll down and peep our choices!

The thriller Love Is the Monster has received a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement, so production is now underway in Canada with Madeline Zima of Californication and Twin Peaks: The Return and Leonardo Nam of Westworld and Werewolf by Night in the lead roles.
Directed by Alex Noyer (Sound of Violence), who also wrote the screenplay with Hannu Aukia and Blair Bathory, Love Is the Monster follows a couple, Ana (Zima) and Justin (Nam) who, rocked by infidelity, attend an exclusive couples retreat in Finland, under the golden rays of the summer’s midnight sun. They join other couples from other parts of the world to experience the transformative teachings of the shaman and healer, Tiina, inspired by the ancient Finnish goddess of love and fertility, Lempo. Writer/director Airell Anthony Hayles’ horror comedy Werewolf Santa will be making its premiere at FrightFest in London on Friday, August 25th, with a second screening following the next day. With several days left to go until we reach the premiere date, Screen Daily reports that Miracle Media International is already planning to give Werewolf Santa a theatrical release in both the US and the UK sometime during November this year!

While 1987’s Werewolf beat it to the punch by a few years, She-Wolf of London is still an important pioneer in lycan storytelling on television. This 1990 series was also ahead of the pack of other supernatural dramas that blended horror, humor, and romance. Created by Universal Television and McA Television Entertainment as part of the original syndicated programming for Hollywood Premiere Network — the only other original shows produced were Shades of L.A. and They Came From Outer Space — She-Wolf of London was an experiment from start to finish. Rather than being a remake of the classic 1946 film, this new take aimed to be totally different. And indeed it was, although not everyone was receptive to the final product.
In its review, The Los Angeles Times called She-Wolf of London “too plodding and sexless” for either kids or adults. The show was made for cable, so naturally there were certain expectations.

Lil Uzi Vert’s long-awaited album, Pink Tape, arrived last week and found the eclectic Mc in decidedly new terrain. With features by everyone from Nicki Minaj to New York electro-pop duo Snow Strippers, Pink Tape is as inventive and untethered by convention as Uzi’s forward-thinking fashion sense. As such, reactions to the record have so far been mixed, with traditional rap fans lamenting Uzi’s forays into unknown genre territory and others celebrating the musician’s daring left turns. Regardless of your feelings, it’s made for one...

Across the 26 tracks that comprise Pink Tape, Lil Uzi Vert raps, sings, squeals, screams, and even screeches their way through a little of every genre influence that’s helped define the Philadelphia rapper’s polychrome sound since 2017’s Luv Is Rage 2. The nearly 90-minute album spans heavy metal, energetic pop-punk (“Amped”), hyperpop (“X2”), candy-coated trap (“Days Come and Go” and “Died and Came Back”), and industrial witchcore (“Fire Alarm”).
There’s something of a skeletal framework by which Uzi has sequenced this sprawling opus, one where by the time we get to the hard Jersey Club banger “Just Wanna Rock,” it feels like a natural progression of the album’s wide-ranging vision rather than a leftfield grab for attention. There’s an almost gleefully breathless irreverence to the way Uzi picks up and immediately drops ideas, dipping in and out of different melodic pockets or styles at a moment’s notice.

Lil Uzi Vert is one of the most ambitious rappers of their generation, a true-blue astral traveler who sees the form’s traditions as a matrix to warp in unexpected ways. Their goal is the sort of mental and emotional liberation achievable only through absolute stimulation: the most colors, the biggest sounds, the hardest raps conceivable. Their first two LPs, 2017’s Luv Is Rage 2 and 2020’s Eternal Atake, showed remarkable progress in this aim. They pushed and pulled various strands of contemporary hip-hop — blown-out Soundcloud beats, cavernous psychedelia, flows from...

After years of abandoned release dates, Lil Uzi Vert’s new album Pink Tape has finally arrived.
The album spans 26 songs and includes collaborations with Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, and Don Toliver. Also featured are metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon and J-pop metal group Babymetal. Plus, Lil Uzi Vert covers System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!” and samples Eiffel 65’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” on the Nicki Minaj collab “Endless Fashion.”
The album was preceded by a trailer directed by Gibson Hazard, which really acts as a mini action movie more than anything. The four-minute clip begins with an anime-version of Uzi, whose infamous $24 million pink diamond is ripped from their forehead by some sort of ancient samurai. The history of Marvel Comics would look a lot different without Christian Cooper.
Then credited as “Chris Cooper,” the New York-based comics nerd and Marvel die-hard was the company’s first openly gay writer and editor. In the 1990s, Cooper worked on Marvel fare that included characters like Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night, and Vengeance. He also created Victoria Montesi, Marvel’s first openly lesbian character, and was an associate editor for Alpha Flight #106: the issue in which Northstar came out of the closet.
While comics were his first love, they were never his only love. Cooper is also an avid birder who likes to frequent Central Park, binoculars in hand, looking for warblers, sparrows, doves, and the like. It’s because of that particular interest that the recent history of the United States itself would look a lot different without Christian Cooper as well.

In the lead-up to Cannes, Spanish film sales continue to show resilience despite shifting market trends and global challenges. The market signals suggest an enduring preference for genre movies and high-concept films, while the sale of arthouse fare remains tough.
Antonio Saura, director general of Latido Films, tells Variety, “The trends we are seeing confirm the trends we identified last year — movies with a strong concept, genre in general, generate interest, [whereas] drama and ‘art house’ is more complicated and requires a different type of attention and positioning.”
While there are signs of interest for movies with top talent attached, smaller films without a significant festival presence face an uphill battle.
This trend is underscored by the Spanish films selected for Cannes, which range from Benito Zambrano’s “Jumping the Fence” and Roya Sadat’s “Sima’s Song,” to Pau Calpe’s “Werewolf.” These films, part of the Spanish Screenings Goes to Cannes section,...

Canadian director Ashley McKenzie’s two features pivot around people caught up in traps. She’s a regional filmmaker, making work based in the communities of Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton island, which is home to 132,000 people. Her 2016 debut, Werewolf, followed a couple of opioid addicts struggling to live on methadone maintenance. Her long-awaited follow-up Queens of the Qing Dynasty, opening this Friday at NYC’s Metrograph, begins with a suicide attempt by an 18-year-old girl, Star (Sarah Walker). Although she’s just begun life as an adult, she will likely require a lifetime of institutionalization, as the state has determined that it’s too dangerous for her to live on her own. She befriends hospital volunteer An (Ziyin Zheng), a genderqueer college student from Shanghai.

Benito Zambrano’s “Jumping the Fence” joins Roya Sadat’s “Sima’s Song,” and Pau Calpe’s “Werewolf” in the lineup of Spanish Screenings Goes to Cannes, a selection of five pix in post which underscores the ever broadening compass – in genre, setting, protagonists, production bases and models – of film production in Spain.
“Sima’s Song,” for example, is set in 1979 Kabul, “Jumping the Fence” on the Morocco-Spain border in Africa.
Many titles, though still in post production, come laden with prizes as projects, prestige deals or rich talent. “Sima’s Song,” from Afghan director Roya Sadat, whose “A Letter to the President” was shortlisted for an Oscar, won the Taicca Award at Busan’s Asian Project Market and the Ifi-Pas Award at Mumbai’s Film Bazaar. Its producer, Alba Sotorra, was nominated for an International Emmy as a director for “The Return: Life After Isis.”

One of the films we hoped would get distribution at the start of the year was Ashley McKenzie’s Werewolf follow-up Queens of the Qing Dynasty, a selection at Berlinale, TIFF, and NYFF. Thankfully, Factory 25 has come to the rescue and will debut the queer coming-of-age drama starting on May 5 at NYC’s Metrograph. Ahead of the release the new trailer and poster have arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: “Following a failed suicide attempt, introverted smalltown teenager Star (Sarah Walker) is subjected to constant invasive monitoring that does little to help her—until her encounter with An (Ziyin Zheng), a similarly genderqueer international student from Shanghai who’s been assigned to watch her in hospital, offers an unexpected chance for connection. Their blossoming relationship—two kindred spirits meeting across spectrums of culture, queerness, and neurodiversity—unfolds with alchemic crackle, leading up to a deeply moving denouement.”
