The pitch was "Rambo in an office building." In the 1980s, the idea of a Rambo type in anything, anywhere would at least get your project shuttled down the studio production pipeline. 20th Century Fox rightly believed they had a potential winner in "Die Hard." So why was the project anathema to every A-list movie star in Hollywood?
Perhaps it was the pedigree. "Die Hard" was an adaptation of Roderick Thorp's action novel "Nothing Lasts Forever," the author's 1979 sequel to his 1966 bestseller "The Detective." That cop thriller had been turned into a 1968 star vehicle for Frank Sinatra, who was nearing the end of his 1960s big-screen comeback. It was a solid hit for 20th Century Fox, but, despite a feint toward grittiness, it was viewed as nothing more than a paycheck gig for the Chairman.
So 20 years later, when Fox spied blockbuster potential in Thorp's sequel (which was...

Bruce Willis Net Worth (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Bruce Willis is grabbing headlines these days, thanks to the Christmas season and his classic film Die Hard. The debate about whether the action film is a Christmas holiday film has already been discussed a zillion times, but now the superstar has himself ended the debate.
The film was released in the summer of 1988, and despite being an action film, it motivated the audience to enjoy it as a Christmas classic since the film dealt with a plot that unfolds on Christmas Eve.
During a recent conversation, Peter Billingsley, the actor from ‘A Christmas Story,’ tried convincing the cinematographer of Die Hard that the film was a Christmas film. However, years ago, during a debate, Bruce Willis ended the debate by saying it is not a Christmas film but is goddamn a Bruce Willis film!

This article contains spoilers for the "Frasier" reboot season finale.
With this latest episode, the holiday-themed "Reindeer Games," the first season of Paramount's "Frasier" revival has finally come to an end. It's felt both too short and dragged out, refreshingly joyous and embarrassingly flat, an important addition to the modern TV landscape and an unnecessary one. As we viewers (and we at /Film) anatomize the revival's hits and misses, it's important to pause and reflect on the complicated and synecdotal final bang the season went out on. That would be the return of Peri Gilpin's Roz.
"Reindeer Games" comes as close to classic "Frasier" farce as any episode this season, save a few gags, like Eve's (Jess Salgueiro) convoluted play in episode 6, "Blind Date," June Diane Raphael's guest appearance in that same episode, and a smattering of references to deep cut original series lore. Before leaping to Lori Loughlin’s defense, John Stamos in his new memoir (order it here) reveals that he was on the phone with his Full House costar as the infamous college admissions imbroglio became national news.
In March 2019, TV’s Aunt Becky was implicated in Operation Varsity Blues, eventually resulting in a two-month prison sentence, a $150,000 fine and 100 hours of mandated community service. In If You Would Have Told Me, her former TV hubby says that he first was made aware of the scandal when he received a text from former Blind Date host (and “good friend”) Roger Lodge asking if Loughlin was “okay.

Bruce Willis burst onto the American entertainment scene as the glib, smart-alecky detective David Addison Jr. opposite Cybill Shepherd’s Maddie Haynes in ABC’s Moonlighting, a show that helped launch the dramedy genre. Willis was not long for the small screen, though, with his his sharp tongue and sarcastic wit destined for bigger things.
More than 90 films and $5.3 billion later, Willis has played a smart-aleck New York detective in the Die Hard series, a smart-aleck oil driller-turned-astronaut in Armageddon, a smart-aleck cop in The Last Boy Scout, a smart-aleck gangster in Last Man Standing, a smart-aleck soldier in Tears of the Sun … well, you get the picture.
When he wasn’t cracking wise, Willis played many other memorable roles in films that included The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), Billy Bathgate (1991), Color of Night (1994), 12 Monkeys (1995), The Fifth Element (1997), The Sixth Sense (1999) The Story of Us (1999), Looper (2012) and Motherless Brooklyn...

A young woman with a short crop carefully touches up her blonde dye job in the arresting opening moments of Blue Jean, painting the goop on her hair with practiced efficiency to the shimmering notes of Chris Roe’s score. Stepping from the bathroom into the living room of her drab flat, she settles on the couch to watch Blind Date, described by raucous host Cilla Black as “The show that tries to find a boy and a girl that go together like birds of a feather.” That might sound exclusionist or even like a microaggression to some more politically inclined queer viewers. To Jean, it’s just pleasurable fluff.
The scene subtly foreshadows an internal conflict played out with sensitive insightfulness and dramatic tension in writer-director Georgia Oakley’s highly assured debut feature and in a transfixing performance awash in mostly suppressed feeling from Rosy McEwen in her first leading role.

“Not everything is political.” The person saying this, with a sightly exasperated air, is named Jean (Rosy McEwen). She’s a high school Pe teacher, recently(ish) divorced, and still mostly closeted about her sexuality. This declaration of independence is being addressed to her off-on, and very much out, girlfriend Viv (Kerrie Hayes). “Of course it is,” Jean’s partner tells her, and the hint of affection in her voice could almost be mistaken for pity. This is England, 1988 — Margaret Thatcher still rules with an iron-lady fist, and she’s...

Paul O’Grady, the adored TV presenter and comedian who broke out with his drag act persona Lily Savage, has died at the age of 67 – but he once said it would be “amazing” if he made it to 60.

“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion,” Portasio said.

Note: Today marks Bruce Willis’s 68th birthday. We wanted to take a moment to wish the icon a very happy birthday and reflect on his career:
Here at JoBlo – we love Bruce Willis. When we heard back in March of 2022 that he would step back from acting due to his tragic Aphasia diagnosis, we were as shocked as everyone else, even if there were signs that things weren’t great with Willis going back a number of years. His last truly prominent role was M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass in 2019, while his last lead role was in Eli Roth’s Death Wish. Since then, it’s been chiefly VOD movies for Willis, where his roles were secondary at best. With his recent frontotemporal dementia diagnosis, we now know the truth.
Whatever the case, we here at JoBlo Originals wish to extend our very best to the man and his family at this difficult time.

On March 30, 2022, Bruce Willis' family announced his retirement from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia, which impairs the abilities to comprehend language and communicate. The Los Angeles Times reported that speculation about Willis' condition circulated throughout the film industry for years prior to his family's announcement, as his output's quality declined.
Willis' receding hairline and solid jawline lent themselves to the many crimefighters, criminals and military men he played over the decades, while his stare could switch from flinty to playful in a heartbeat — and his boyish smirk often proved irrepressible.

On a tropical island, three women walk among 24 men, handing out wristbands to a select few with whom they will then be able to spend some alone time during a party that evening. They only just met these men moments ago, making the initial decision one based primarily on looks and vibes, but for the rest of the show, personality — and character — will need to factor into their choices in a big way. After all, a dozen of the men are there as “nice guys,” who may really want to settle down, while the other self-identified in their auditions as “f-boys,” who are likely more into games than long-term romance.

Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.
In non-Marvel offerings this month, Shrill will debut its third and final season on May 7. This comedy based on Lindy West’s memoir and starring SNL‘s Aidy Bryant has been a consistently bright presence on the streaming scene since...

The week of March 9 — when the coronavirus was officially declared a pandemic, and Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson shared the news that they had tested positive for Covid-19 — a cascade of television shows and movies shut their productions down for safety reasons. From “Stranger Things” to “The Batman,” these shutterings are temporary, and sets will be up and running as soon as it’s safe to go back into production — though no one knows when that might be. All told, the pipeline for scripted television and movies for later this year and into 2021 has been decimated. The broadcast networks, unable to shoot any pilots for the 2020-21 TV season, are in uncharted territory. And unless the coronavirus curve flattens soon, the broadcasters, which schedule hours and hours of reality television in the summer, will have to rely almost entirely on repeats.

“Blind Date” is getting a modern-day reboot, courtesy of Bravo, Variety has learned.
The original “Blind Date,” which ran for for 10 syndicated seasons from 1999 to 2006, used hidden cameras to film two strangers, who were fixed up by the show, as they embarked on their first date.
Now that dating apps have changed the game and blind dates are fewer and further between, Bravo announced they will update the show for 2019 “with social media trends and diverse couples of all ethnicities, ages and sexual orientations.” Each half-hour episode, like the original, will feature strangers who are paired up and sent off on a blind date.
Rachel Smith, Senior Vice President, Development at Bravo announced the series order which comes from Universal Television Alternative Studio. Casting for the show will begin immediately.
“Blind Date,” which aired for 1440 total episodes, was originally hosted by veteran radio broadcaster and “Hard Copy” alum Roger Lodge.

Bravo has ordered a reboot of early 2000s dating game show “Blind Date,” but without Roger Lodge, it was announced Tuesday.
Promising a modern day take on the original series, each half-hour episode will feature two strangers paired up and sent on a blind date. Like the original, graphics including animations and speech bubbles will appear on screen as the narrator weaves in commentary and cameras follow the couple’s every move.
The original series, hosted by Lodge and distributed by NBC Universal Television, premiered in 1999 and ran for 10 seasons with a total of 1,440 episodes. Lodge will not be involved in the reboot; a new host has not yet been announced.
Modernized to work in the social media-saturated, dating apps world of 2019, the show’s original concept will be updated to include internet trends and diverse couples of all ethnicities, ages and sexual orientations.

British broadcaster Channel 4 has poached non-scripted commissioner Sean Doyle from Channel 5 as it looks to build a new slate of 8pm shows.
Doyle, who has been a commissioning executive at the Viacom-owned broadcaster since 2015, was described by Channel 4 Director of Programmes Ian Katz as the “brains behind many of Channel 5’s smartest commissions”.
Doyle was responsible for bringing back reality format The Bachelor to Channel 5, as broken by Deadline, as well as the revamp of classic dating format Blind Date, which was C5’s first major steps into the entertainment genre. He has also been responsible for originals such as social experiment Celebs in Solitary, produced by Sony-owned Stellify Media, and natural history series Wild Britain, produced by Plimsoll Productions.
He joins as Deputy Head of Features and Formats and will report to Head of Features and Formats Sarah Lazenby, who took on the new position earlier this summer.

For some reason, Sony Pictures has decided to develop a remake of the 1987 Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger comedy Blind Date. This was actually Willis' very first feature film and I don't think I've ever seen it! The remake is said to take on the modern world of dating.
The movie will be written by Chris Hazzard and Michael Fontana and it will be produced by Davis Entertainment, the company behind Warner Bros’ Game Night and Fox’s forthcoming release, The Predator. It's crazy to me that they will remake this movie before they produce some great original script that is floating around Hollywood.
Here's the synopsis for the original 1987 film:
When bachelor Walter Davis (Bruce Willis) is set up with his sister-in-law’s pretty cousin, Nadia Gates (Kim Basinger), a seemingly average blind date turns into a chaotic night on the town. Walter’s brother, Ted (Phil Hartman), tells...
