After playing the iconic George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons", Sherman Hemsley tried his hand at the big screen in what turned out to be a huge flop. Hemsley funded most of the films production cost, which left him nearly bankrupt.
Shot in and submitted to the MPAA for a rating in 1984 but not released until 1987, after extensive re-shooting and re-editing, resulting in director Lee Madden demanding that his name be removed from the credits. It was, replaced by the fictional "Alan Smithee".
