New Delhi, Aug 30: At 60, Remo Fernandes is going on from becoming a 'singing actor' to an 'actor' with "Bombay Velvet". He has been associated with the Hindi film industry for over 25 years, but it took him all these years to try acting as he was too shy and self-conscious.
Many would recall watching the musician's glimpses in movies like "Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha" and "David", but he clarifies that they were "singing roles".
"There, I sang my song, that's all - no acting required as such. It was the same in all the previous movies in which I've appeared - be it 'Jalwa' and 'Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha'," Remo told Ians in an.

In Bombay Talkies, the film commemorating a 100 years of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan plays himself, the mega-star whom a fan wants to meet come hell or high-water. This is not the first time that the Big B has appeared as himself in a movie. In fact in another ready-for-release film entitled The Struggler, Mahesh Manjrekar plays a struggler whose dream finally comes true when he meets his idol Amitabh Bachchan. Manjrekar's film has been ready for nearly 6 years now with no one willing to release the unusual experimental film. But now with Viacom 18's Bombay Talkies on release, Manjrekar is all set to find an outlet for his film. Says Manjrekar, "It's one of Amitji's undiscovered little gems. I think this is the right time to release the film. This is the 100th year of cinema. And the 35th year of Mr Bachchan in the industry. The Struggler is my humble tribute to him.

The first half of 2012 has featured some of the best soundtracks in quite some time, with music directors creating innovative songs that kept us hooked. However, even though we may love gems like Gangs of Wasseypur or From Sydney with Love, and biggies like Cocktail and Rowdy Rathore, the lineup for late 2012 looks just as promising. Fall 2012 is definitely Khan season, with Shah Rukh’s untitled film with Yash Chopra, Aamir’s home production of Talaash, and Salman’s humongously awaited sequel to Dabangg all being released. Despite this, the latter part of the year is going to have a gratifying number of heroines dominating: Sridevi, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta each have their films releasing during September and October. Vanessa and I had such a lively conversation on what’s got us excited for the rest of 2012. Here’s some of the soundtracks we cannot wait to hear!

The forthcoming Yash Raj Films venture, Ek Tha Tiger has created Indian Cinema history with the overwhelming excitement surrounding its release. Ek Tha Tiger sees the newly crowned king of the box-office, Salman Khan, join forces with Bollywood mogul Yash Raj Films, under the direction of Kabir Khan (New York).
Khan’s prior box-office smashers, namely, Wanted, Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard have music to match (critical analysis aside). Sohail Sen, fresh from the success of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, holds the reins to this mere 5-track album and briefly shares the control with guest-composers Sajid-Wajid (Dabangg). Vocal talents comprise of Wajid (‘Jalwa’ – Wanted), Shreya Ghosal (‘Tere Meri’ – Bodyguard), K.K ( Desi Boys – Title Track, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan – Title Track), Sukhwinder Singh (Dabangg – Title Track, Singham – Title Track) and Mohit Chauhan (‘Saada Haq’ – Rockstar) amongst others. Naturally, three remixes by Joshilay fill this short album.

Block your agendas for the next two months, because movies are making way for Ipl 5. The fifth edition of T20 cricket kicked off on the 3rd of April with a huge opening ceremony, which was held at the Ymca Collega of Physical Education in front on 15,000 spectators. There was some Bollywood masala, South Indian mithaai and it ended with some international flavour.
The evening started off with none other than the living legend Amitabh Bachchan, who was anxiously waiting for days to perform again in front of a live audience. After two abdominal surgeries earlier this year, Big B was clearly enjoying this. The 69-year old actor started the evening with a rendition of a poem ‘If I were to be born again’ which was written by renowned lyricist Prasoon Joshi. After that he took to the stage to perform with Shiamak Davar’s dancetroupe. A dissapointing performance.

Dumb Movie Dumb!!
Film: Dum Maaro Dum
Director: Rohan Sippy
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Prateik, Rana Daggubati, Bipasha Basu
Rating: **
A cop seeking redemption, an airhostess who carries drugs, an innocent kid seeking a scholarship and a handsome local musician oblivious to the sinister going-ons get embroiled in the infamous Goan drug cartel. The goal seems to be the arrest of an elusive drug lord named Michael Barbosa and the canvas is a murky medley of the Russian, Israeli and Nigerian narcotics mafia.
Rohan Sippy?s Dum Maaro Dum is slickly shot, stylishly cut and nicely scored, but is marred by a lazy script that promises rousing thrills but takes unimaginative shortcuts to its ?big? reveals. While the subject has the potential to lend itself to a taut thriller, the outcome is an insipid hotchpotch that offers few thrills and no insights into the dark underbelly of the paradise state. Dmd...
