Carnival manager says that after their current five day stay at the fair, they're headed to "AR-kan-saw City" (phonetic spelling) like the state, Arkansas. However, as any Kansan can tell you, it's pronounced "ar-KAN-sas City". Don't know why, but it is.
Kansas license plates are issued by county, with a two-letter code representing each county. Many of the cars of residents of the same area have county license plates from counties far apart.
Matt Dillon's character (Doyle Kennedy) was supposed to be a native Kansan, as indicated numerous times in the film. And yet, throughout the film he spoke with varying shades of a Southern drawl that is not at all reflective of the Kansan (or mid-western U.S.) manner of speaking and accent.
