"American Nuclear" was shown as an installment of "CBS Summer Playhouse"--a slot where the network dumped failed television pilots in order to recoup the cost they spent to make them. In the case of this show, it was apparently based on the marriage of writer Jimmy Breslin--where he and his new wife created a blended family. This pilot show mostly is concerned with difficulties the kids are all having in school, the oldest daughter's obnoxious behaviors and the father's propensity to yell and be a total jerk!
If it sounds like I didn't love the show, then you are right...as some of the problems with the show were deal breakers. The kids (particularly the oldest daughter) were unlikable and the father was even more unlikable. How could the network okay this as a series with such difficult problems in the pilot?!
