Harrison Ford has been a leading man in the industry for more than 40 years. The actor has been a part of many iconic and acclaimed films that have shaped him as an actor. In addition to Han Solo in Star Wars and Indiana Jones, films like Witness, Blade Runner, Presumed Innocent, The Fugitive, and Air Force One made him a huge movie star back in the day.

Despite being one of the most respected figures in the industry, some actors have expressed their underwhelming working experience with the actor, including Brad Pitt. Another one of his co-stars also voiced his complicated professional relationship with Ford.

Harrison Ford and Robert De Niro are two of the most accomplished actors of all-time. Ford is the ultimate hero, due to his roles as Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and Jack Ryan. De Niro has often played darker characters in movies like Taxi Driver, The Godfather Part II, and Goodfellas. Even in a comedy like Meet the Parents, De Niro is undeniably terrifying. Over the course of his career, De Niro has frequently collaborated with the iconic director, Martin Scorsese, including 2023's Killers of the Flower Moon. So it was no surprise when, in 1991, they joined forces again for Cape Fear, a remake of the Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck classic. Not only would De Niro and Scorsese be together once more, but arguably the most famous actor of the 80s, Harrison Ford, was almost brought on board as well.

Classic filler jokes in The Simpsons, like Sideshow Bob and the rakes, have had lasting influence on other popular TV shows. Even scenes originally meant as padding, such as "The Adventures of Ned Flanders," later inspired full episodes and entire shows. The playful, experimental humor of The Simpsons' Golden Age episodes, initially met with mixed reactions, ultimately shaped the future of comedy TV shows.
Even jokes that were intended as filler in Golden Age episodes of The Simpsons have gone on to become influential and iconic. The Simpsons has always enjoyed a certain level of popularity, but the show became a true phenomenon during its "Golden Age." Considered some of the best TV writing in history, the so-called Golden Age of The Simpsons ran from around season 3 to season 10. Debate rages over when the Golden Age officially ended, but even the most generous reviews concede that more recent seasons have declined in quality.

It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series, and with this one we’re heading back into the glorious ’80s to look at a film that was released during the slasher boom of 1981: Happy Birthday to Me (watch it Here)! This movie was directed by J. Lee Thompson, whose previous credits included the classics The Guns of Navarone and Cape Fear (not to mention Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Battle for the Planet of the Apes). To hear all about his contribution to the ’80s slasher era, check out the video embedded above.
From here, Thompson would go on to make several films with Charles Bronson, including 10 to Midnight and Death Wish 4: The Crackdown, as well as King Solomon’s Mines and the Chuck Norris adventure Firewalker.
Scripted by Timothy Bond, Peter Jobin, and John Saxton, Happy Birthday to Me...

It’s Cape Fear meets ‘The Burbs in director John Schlesinger’s Pacific Heights. Although you might be fooled by Hanz Zimmer’s score, which sounds a lot more like you’re watching Sexy Beetlejuice than a ’90s thriller. This is pure irony, of course, considering the film stars Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, as a conman who is six feet from the edge and thinking maybe doing murder isn’t so far down.
For those of you arguing silently in your heads that Pacific Heights is not a horror movie, let me go ahead and agree with you. It’s a pure thriller. But imagine this for a moment; imagine somewhere out there is a fresh-off Batman Michael Keaton, sitting in a dark room twirling both a razor blade and a large cockroach through his fingers like some sort of emo fidget spinner, plotting you and your significant other’s demise.

Robert De Niro is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood with films like The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, and Silver Linings Playbook. His collaborations with director Martin Scorsese are considered some of the best films ever created. They played a pivotal role in pushing him to international success. Despite being one of the greatest actors ever, he is also afraid of rejection, but it’s not the rejection from films.
Robert De Niro in Heat
The rejection from films was never a concern for Robert De Niro. The actor has worked with some of the greatest directors in memorable films. However, the Travis Bickle starrer proved to be an adorable family man when he claimed that he can feel rejected by his children. Robert Downey Jr. looks to have Best Supporting Actor locked up after he swept the precursors for his sterling turn in Christopher Nolan‘s “Oppenheimer.” But while Downey Jr. would be more than a deserving winner for his phenomenal performance, the Oscars always throws up a surprise or two on the actual night. Could we see an upset in Best Supporting Actor?
Downey Jr. is nominated alongside Ryan Gosling (“Barbie”), Mark Ruffalo (“Poor Things”), Sterling K. Brown (“American Fiction”), and Robert De Niro (“Killers of the Flower Moon”). Gosling has lots of support for his sublime “Barbie” performance while Ruffalo and Brown also have their backers, too. However, the legendary De Niro could prove to be the closest challenger to Downey Jr. thanks to his iconic career and status.

When reflecting on Gregory Peck's extensive career, a few films like Roman Holiday come instantly to mind. The biblical epic David and Bathsheba, the swashbuckling Moby Dick, both versions of Cape Fear, and the iconic horror film The Omen all made their mark in movie history. He's also played villains such as Nazi scientist Dr. Josef Mengele in The Boys in Brazil, and heroes like Catholic priest Hugh O'Flaherty in The Scarlet and The Black. Of course, his most famous role comes from the 1962 feature film adaptation of Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird, where he wowed audiences everywhere as Atticus Finch. His powerful performance has since been hailed as one of the greatest in cinema, and for good reason. In every way, Peck transforms himself into the physical embodiment of the ideals that Finch stood for, ripping the character straight from Lee's page and immortalizing him on screen.

A lot of really fun movies from the eighties and nineties are tough to get decent copies of. While some of the stories have happy endings, other films seem all but doomed to languish until a niche label like Arrow Video, Kino Lorber, or Unearthed Films gives them the TLC they deserve. So, what’s the title we’re worried is Gone Forever here at JoBlo? A cool little thriller (which I previously wrote up for Best Movie You Never Saw) from 1991 called Ricochet has a pretty impressive pedigree. The movie stars Denzel Washington, John Lithgow, Ice-t, Kevin Pollack and The Bionic Woman herself, Lindsay Wagner, while Highlander’s Russell Mulcahy directs it, is produced by Joel Silver, and is written by Die Hard’s Steven E De Souza. In fact, Ricochet takes place in the same universe as Die Hard, with Mary Ellen Trainor reprising her role as snoopy TV reporter Gale Wallens.

Martin Scorsese was at the Berlinale this week for the first time in a decade. His presence to collect an honorary Golden Bear was a reminder of the festival’s glories of yesteryear.
In decades past, Scorsese touched down in Berlin with major works such as Raging Bull (1981), Cape Fear (1992); Gangs of New York (2003 ), Shine a Light (2008) and Shutter Island (2010). It feels a long time since the event — traditionally one of the world’s great cinema showcases — has attracted such movies. In recent years the studio splashes have dried up.
So have memorable movies from A-list arthouse filmmakers. Scorsese this week sang the praises of the event for the encouragement it had given him as an emerging filmmaker. When you work in Hollywood, but can't write or direct or act or do anything that requires a practical skill ... well, you're either an executive or an agent. This means you probably make more money than most of your clients or the genuinely talented people you employ. This, you'd think, would be enough to get you through the night. But these are (mostly) awful people with awfully large egos. They don't just want money. They want credit for having played (they believe) a vital part in the creation of art. So they exaggerate their role to anyone who will listen (hopefully a credulous reporter). And when that's not enough, sometimes they just flat-out lie.
Erstwhile superagent Michael Ovitz played this mendacious game better than anyone.

It’s not often that a doc about the transformative power of cinema will deliberately use bad clips of the movies it’s talking about, but that’s part of the point of this insightful, sprawling film, corralled by director David Hinton. Though the masterpieces made by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger at the height of their big-screen, Technicolor powers were visually impeccable, their subversive emotional power could still pack a punch through a 16-inch TV screen, even from the most scratched, butchered, and washed-out black-and-white prints.
This is, famously, how the young Martin Scorsese discovered The Archers (as the pairing styled themselves), and in this lengthy discourse he gets to position them both as an influence on his own movies and as unsung heroes in the history of world cinema. Now, there are plenty of people who will immediately say that Powell and Pressburger have actually been sung quite a bit,...

There is no denying that Martin Scorsese stands with some of the finest filmmakers that Hollywood has to offer. With films like The Wolf of Wall Street and Gangs of New York, the Oscar-winning director has been ruling over the hearts of film fanatics since time immemorial. However, despite having uncountable projects to his name, Martin Scorsese has barely touched the Horror genre with his films.

Sure, he has touched the subject a few times with Shutter Island, Cape Fear, and Bringing Out the Dead, but Martin Scorsese has never made a full-blown horror movie. Now this doesn’t mean that the filmmaker is not into the genre. In fact, there is one film out there that was so full of dread that it became one of Martin Scorsese’s favorites in the genre.

Martin Scorsese was greeted by loud cheers as he alighted from his car at the Berlinale Palast on Tuesday night, and set about signing autographs for the crowd gathered on this cold Berlin night.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker is the recipient of an honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement at the 74th Berlinale.
“Marty!! Marty!!” the crowd chanted, as Scorsese posed for photographers before fielding press questions and greeting festival brass, protected from the sharp weather only by his dapper black suit.
Once inside the auditorium, the 81-year-old finally sat down some 25 minutes after arriving, following a long-standing ovation.
Live music from the soundtrack of Killers of the Flowers Moon was accompanied by clips playing on the screen. The fest’s exec director, Marietta Rissenbeek, and artistic director, Carlo Chatrian, offered a few words in recognition of the great director, making Scorsese laugh and seem to all but cry with his daughter Francesca by his side.

He recalled how he and Scorsese had first hooked up while attending the Telluride Film Festival in 1978.

Martin Scorsese revealed he is still mulling how to tackle the life of Jesus on the big screen, at a press conference at the Berlin Film Festival where he will receive its honorary Golden Bear on Tuesday evening.
“I’m contemplating it right now. What kind of film I’m not quite sure, but I want to make something unique and different that could be thought-provoking and I hope also entertaining. I’m not quite sure yet how to go about it,” he said.

"Mo Better Blues." "Malcolm X." "He Got Game." "Inside Man." It is always an event when Spike Lee and Denzel Washington team up for a movie, and they always, always deliver. "Mo Better Blues" suffered from being Lee's follow-up to his masterpiece "Do the Right Thing," but its critical reputation has improved significantly over time. "Malcolm X" is probably the second most important (and brilliant) film about race next to "Do the Right Thing." "He Got Game" is an electric-yet-harrowing father-son drama set against the wanton corruption of college basketball. And "Inside Man" is just a plain old pip of a heist movie, one that makes you wish Lee would place his stylistic spin on more straight-up genre stories.
According to Variety, Lee is set to tackle one of the most masterfully crafted cop tales ever made, and you best believe he's re-teaming with Washington to bring it off.

Upon securing a spot in the 2024 Best Supporting Actress Oscar lineup, Jodie Foster (“Nyad”) officially shattered the Academy Awards record for longest span between fourth and fifth acting nominations. Following her two Best Actress wins for “The Accused” (1989) and “The Silence of the Lambs” (1992), she had last been recognized in that category for “Nell” (1995), making for a general nomination gap of 29 years. Coincidentally, she took this particular distinction from fellow “Silence of the Lambs” winner Anthony Hopkins, who waited 22 years between his supporting bids for “Amistad” (1998) and “The Two Popes” (2020).
Previously, the female record for longest wait for a fifth nomination was 12 years, as shared by Julianne Moore and Frances McDormand. Considering gaps between any two consecutive acting nominations, Foster ranks well behind overall record holder Judd Hirsch, whose first and second career notices for “Ordinary People” (1981) and “The Fabelmans” (2023) came 42 years apart. Martin Scorsese says Killers of the Flower Moon is different from his other movies because of its exploration of a "day-to-day evil". The filmmaker was interested in the project because it explores how ordinary people can be driven to do evil deeds by their circumstances. The dynamics between the characters is what makes Killers of the Flower Moon so harrowing, with Ernest and Mollie, in particular, giving the story a sharp edge.
Killers of the Flower Moon director Martin Scorsese explains why the movie is different from his other movies. Based on the book of the same name by David Grann, Killers of the Flower Moon tells the true story of the Osage Nation murders that took place in Oklahoma during the early 1920s. The Apple TV film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro, was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews for its strong performances and its handling of real-life events.

Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of their first screen collaboration (“Mean Streets”), actor Robert De Niro and director Martin Scorsese reunited in 2023 to make “Killers of the Flower Moon,” thus bringing their amount of shared feature film credits to an even 10. Although their latest joint effort constitutes a rare instance of Scorsese employing De Niro’s talents in a supporting capacity, his new role is far from the shortest he’s played for the director, both in terms of actual time on screen and percentage of the total film. The Hollywood studios are alive and well: They dominated the just-announced Oscar nominations, with Universal’s mighty biopic “Oppenheimer” heading for a Best Picture win with an expected 13 nominations, including Picture, Director, and Adapted Screenplay (Christopher Nolan); Actor (Cillian Murphy), Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.); and Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt). "Killers of The Flower Moon" could secure Robert De Niro's first Oscar nomination for a Martin Scorsese film since 1992, ending a 32-year streak. Despite its lack of awards success so far, the film is predicted to receive several Academy Awards nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. While Leonardo DiCaprio's chances for an Oscar nomination may be slim, Lily Gladstone is a potential winner, and De Niro is expected to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

1986 was an important year for DC Comics. "Crisis on Infinite Earths" rebooted the decades-old continuity, and Frank Miller reinvigorated Batman with "The Dark Knight Returns." Miller's tale depicted an aged Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to fight the evils of the 1980s, from street gangs to the Cold War to Ronald Reagan. If you've ever wondered what the beginning of dark and gritty Batman was, it was this book.
The next year, DC was relaunching the main "Batman" title for the "Post-Crisis" era, and Miller was the obvious choice to kick it off. The result was "Year One," running four issues from "Batman" #404-407. The book follows Bruce Wayne's early days as a crime fighter when Gotham City was menaced by the mob, not super-villains. Batman refines his tactics through trial and error and slowly wins the trust of James Gordon — not yet a commissioner, but a rare...

The psychological thriller is a subgenre that dissolves any sense of reality and instead of physical action, builds up the suspense through a character's misconstrued perspective and complex mental state. Movies such as Rear Window, Cape Fear, and The Silence of the Lambs popularized the subgenre paving the way for producing the best psychological thriller series including Bates Motel, True Detective, and David Fincher's Mindhunter.

Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" turns 34 this year. The movie itself spans more than three decades, chronicling Henry Hill's (Ray Liotta) life as an associate in the New York mob — Hill's life story was first told to the public by the nonfiction book "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the "Goodfellas" script with Scorsese.
"Goodfellas" is a cinematic shot of adrenaline, cut with vivacious energy by Thelma Schoonmaker and scored with classic rock to reflect the anti-authority glamour of mid-20th century gangsters. No matter if you watch it in all its sprawling glory or just sample clips, it's enjoyable — nay, irresistible.
Since "Goodfellas" packs so many years into two-and-a-half hours, it has a huge cast. So much time has passed since "Goodfellas" premiered in theaters and left its mark on crime cinema that not all of these actors are still with us. Miraculously, though, quite a few of them...

Robert De Niro has been working in Hollywood for almost six decades now, with eight Oscar nominations to his name and two wins. His most noted collaboration has been with director Martin Scorsese, with whom he has done 10 films, including their latest partnership on “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which was released October 20 through Apple Original Films. In celebration of the western crime epic, let’s take a look back at De Niro’s eight Oscar nominations in 45 years; seven for acting and one for producing.
His first Oscar nomination and victory came on the heels of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic crime film “The Godfather” with the equally successful second installment “The Godfather Part II” (1974), in which De Niro plays a young Vito Corleone, played by Oscar winner Marlon Brando in the first movie. Despite dropping out of the Top 10 in the US, Killers of the Flower Moon has crossed the $150 million milestone at the worldwide box office. The movie, produced on a massive $200 million budget, may struggle to be profitable as it needs to make about double its budget to be declared a box office success. Killers of the Flower Moon's chances of recouping its budget may rely on re-releases in theaters and its success during awards season.

When the remake of Cape Fear was released in 1991, it came from a dream team: Steven Spielberg was its producer (he initially developed the project), and Martin Scorsese directed it. Now, Cape Fear is being developed as a new television series, with both Scorsese and Spielberg on board as producers. Having both men involved certainly bodes well for the project, as both hold a deep passion for the material. In fact, when the ’91 movie was released, Scorsese told us he had some intense discussions about how to make the film work. Cape Fear, based on the novel by John D. MacDonald, is being developed into a TV series by Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, with showrunner Nick Antosca attached. The series will be a contemporary thriller that explores America's fascination with true crime, focusing on a married couple of attorneys whose lives are disrupted when a notorious killer is released from prison. The project is still in the early stages.
Based on the 1957 novel 'The Executioners' by John D. MacDonald, Cape Fear has seen two film iterations over the years. One in 1962 which starred Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Polly Bergen, and another in 1991 which featured Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, and Jessica Lange. Now it looks as if the novel will be making its way to the small screen thanks to executive producers Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, who are currently shopping the idea for a Cape Fear series around Hollywood.

A third take on the Cape Fear story is happening, with a true crime focus to it. More on the TV project here.
It’s a relatively well known piece of film trivia that when it came to the 1991 remake of the film Cape Fear, it was a project that Steven Spielberg was originally developing to direct.
Around the same time, however, Martin Scorsese was planning to make a film based on Thomas Keneally’s book, Schindler’s Ark. The two would trade projects, Spielberg renaming the latter to Schindler’s List. He’d also remain a producer on Scorsese’s Cape Fear, but took his family-friendly name off the credits.
Now, there’s none of that. We’ve got Spielberg, we’ve got Scorsese, and they’re both executive producing a surprise TV take on the Cape Fear story.

At one point in time, Steven Spielberg was set to direct the thriller Cape Fear, while Martin Scorsese was attached to direct the historical drama Schindler’s List. Then Scorsese decided to step away from Schindler’s List, a choice that coincided with Spielberg deciding that Cape Fear was too violent for him. So the directors traded movies – resulting in Scorsese directing Robert De Niro and Juliette Lewis to Oscar nominations for Cape Fear and Spielberg turning Schindler’s List into a Best Picture winner. Now Deadline reports that Spielberg and Scorsese are teaming up to executive produce a TV series adaptation of Cape Fear, with Nick Antosca on board as executive producer and showrunner.

In 1991, director Martin Scorsese remade 1962’s Cape Fear, based on the 1957 novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald, for Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment. It appears they’re returning to the IP: Deadline reports that Scorsese and Spielberg have teamed with “Channel Zero” creator Nick Antosca for a new series that’ll take an unconventional approach.
“Cape Fear” marks the first ever TV collaboration for Scorsese and Spielberg, who are executive producing the project from creator, executive producer and showrunner Nick Antosca.
The series is described as a “a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century. In it, a storm is coming for a pair of married attorneys when an infamous killer from their past gets released after years in prison.”
In every iteration of Cape Fear so far, the plot sees a lawyer’s family tormented by the criminal he helped put in prison.
