Jenny has befriended Corrine Last, a talented musical teacher. Last's ex, Axel Kingman is set to marry, Hannah, all seems to good to be true.
It's a good start, a fantastic cast here, some truly wonderful actors on show here, and an adaptation from one of Rendell's best books.
It should be a 10* episode, it really does have all of the elements, but it's not up there, I would regard the opening as good. Sure it looks great, almost idyllic, and the acting is first rate, but the delivery is rather slow and pedestrian, it takes ages for it to open up.
There's the distraction of Reg looking into the book, and that's interesting, but there is almost too much agro, almost everyone is angry and ready to fight.
First rate acting from the glorious Cheryl Campbell, I am a massive fan of hers, and she is tremendous here, very much the standout for me.
I'll be interested to see if there is indeed something to do with the mushrooms.
It's a good start, if a little slow, 7/10.
