With both The Hatton Garden Job in UK cinemas now, and We Still Steal the Old Way available on DVD from today, I thought i’d take a look at my favourite Top Five Heist/Crime Caper Movies… In order (for a change) they are:
5) In Security
In Security tells the story of best friends Kevin and Bruce, who are co-owners of a failing home security company in a town with no crime. As a last ditch effort to drum up some business, they start robbing the neighbors to instill fear and create a need for their services but bullets fly when they unwittingly rob the wrong guy – a suburban drug lord with a penchant for kitchen gadgets.
It’s fair to say I love a good goofball crime caper, but In Security however has much more than being just a “crime caper” going for it. For one it stars one of my favourite actors,...

There is more to the ‘80s than time travel, fantastical adventures, and teenage angst with a happy ending, but it wouldn’t seem like that with the narrow tack nostalgia has taken. The era has been whittled down to a list of mainstream musts and little else. Sometimes other films get remembered for a fleeting instant, especially if an anniversary is nigh, but generally it’s a momentary vacation before the return to the typical rushes about forgotten scenes, wacky trivia, or new pricey figurines. After years of near-obsolescence, The Legend of Billie Jean finally returned to shelves with a Blu-ray release this week, reminding us that there are other great ‘80s films out there we can be talking about. Some are probably better off forgotten, like Prayer of the Rollerboys, which I was ashamed to revisit when my age got into the double digits. But there are others worth the revisitation. The Legend of Billie Jean...

Everybody's favorite cult film podcast, Junk Food Dinner, gets eXXXtreme this week as we skate our way through three Rollerblade™-themed films!
Up first, futuristic switchblade-toting nuns and poorly dubbed cops strap on skates and battle punks and puppets in a post-apocalyptic hell in the amazingly surreal, low-budget straight-to-video exploitation film Roller Blade from 1986 directed by Donald G. Jackson.
Then, a generic young pretty boy from California is forced to move in with his relatives in Cincinnati and prove himself to the locals by taking part in an epic downhill inline skate race in the 1993 teen comedy Airborne, featuring Seth Green and Jack Black.
And finally, Corey Haim and Patricia Arquette team up to take down a gang of rollerblading, drug dealing, white supremacists in the distopian cyber-punk action-drama Prayer of the Rollerboys from 1990.
Also, we have Nerds News, this week's DVD and Blu-Ray releases and much more!

Blockbuster – the one-time giant in the home video rental business which went bankrupt last September – was bought at auction this past week by Dish Network for $320 million. According to Dish, it intends to combine its wireless technology with Blockbuster’s brand name recognition, studio relationships and digital rights to re-establish Blockbuster as a player in the direct-to-home market against Netflix and newer contenders like Amazon and a Warner Bros. online rental service to be offered on Facebook.
However this plays out long-term, the auction buy is the last page in a final chapter begun back in September when Blockbuster busted. To trot out the old cliché, it’s the – everybody now — end of an era.
The business Blockbuster used to be in seemed revolutionary in its day, though it seems almost quaint now; come Friday, some delegate from the family would trot to the neighborhood video store hoping to get...

for March 18th, 2010 While SXSW is slowly filtering out of our theaters and instead, flooding the music venues and rent-a-bars that pop up around town, we are beginning to resume a state of normality. We have a few new releases this weekend (The Runaways – with the director live in person – and The Bounty Hunter) and we’re also back with our special programming!Master Pancake is doing One Final Weekend of Goldfinger before they turn their attention to Mr. Gibson in Braveheart. We were all very saddened to hear we lost a Corey, so we decided to put up a couple Lost Boys Tribute Shows this week (my vote was for Prayer Of The Rollerboys, but I’ll just watch that at home!). Also, if you got shut out of SXSW this year by lack of money or other reasons, we’ve chosen a few of our...

Impish, irrepressible Canadian actor whose star reached its zenith with The Lost Boys
If the Artful Dodger had smartened himself up, dyed his hair, worn snazzy jackets with the sleeves rolled up, and sought an alternative career as a Jackie or My Guy cover star, he would have resembled Corey Haim at the peak of his career.
The Canadian actor, who has died unexpectedly aged 38, did not spend more than a few years in the limelight. Yet it was his chirpy, irrepressible personality, as much as the occasional high-profile film role between the mid-1980s and early 90s, that earned him the affectionate regard of mainstream audiences. Out of a meagre selection of movies, many of which went straight to video or DVD, it was the 1987 vampire romp The Lost Boys which earned him his teenybopper fanbase. The lopsided smile, impish eyes and jauntily spiked hair made him perfect pin-up fodder.

Corey Haim, arguably the 1980's equivalent of Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, passed away at 38, apparently of a drug overdose, a tragedy that appears to have been accidental, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Though Haim fell on hard times both personally and professionally, Haim and fellow actor Corey Feldman -- collectively referred to as the "Two Coreys" -- once ruled the film world and were teen heartthrobs of the highest order. Haim, who hailed from Canada, arrived on the scene with the drama Firstborn (1984), starring opposite Peter Weller and Teri Garr, gained additional traction with Silver Bullet (1985) and Murphy's Romance (1985), and completely won over audiences with his heartbreaking, utterly natural turn as the lovable loser title character in Lucas (1986), with Charlie Sheen. But it was the handsome young actor's collaborations with Feldman that transformed him into a major star: The Lost Boys (1987), License to Drive (1988), and Dream a Little Dream...

As Scott Weinberg shared this morning, Corey Haim died last night from an apparent accidental overdose. He was 38.
This was, of course, no shock. The actor had been struggling with drugs for most of his life, having told the media that it all started when he smoked his first joint while working on The Lost Boys twenty-three years ago. Haim hit it big, fell into B-movie hell, spent all his cash on drugs, and then struggled to fight his way out of addiction and financial turmoil. Unfortunately, reuniting with buddy Corey Feldman in the last handful of years and allowing his life to become reality show fodder wasn't the best move, branding him as a desperate and emotionally tarnished actor past his prime.
But it wasn't always that way. Like Scott, Haim held a special place in my heart. He was the one young actor I followed beyond a project or two,...

I am, and always will be a fan of the two Corey’s, so to hear of Corey Haim’s passing earlier today came as something of a shock. Whilst I have already posted a quick tribute this morning, I’ve had time to think about the situtation and can think of nothing better than celebrating Corey Haim’s body of work, and perhaps highlighting some of his films that you may never have seen.
So in honour of one of my favourite actors I present the Top Ten Movies of Corey Haim:
1) Dream a Little Dream
Whilst this bodyswap film (of sorts) did excellent business in the Us, spawning a Top 10 hit song, Dream a Little Dream didn’t set the UK alight. I didn’t discover the film until 1992 when I first rented it at my local video shop, in fact once I did rent the tape...

The news that actor Corey Haim, 38, was found dead on Wednesday morning (March 10) of an apparent drug overdose has left the late Hollywood icon's family, friends and fans in mourning. Although Haim's career had been relatively quiet in recent years, the actor was a steady presence on the big screen throughout the 1980s, starring alongside talents such as Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen and longtime friend and collaborator Corey Feldman.
In memory of the late actor, MTV News has compiled a timeline of Corey Haim's career in Hollywood from his first roles in "Firstborn" and "Silver Bullet" to his final years as a reality television star alongside Feldman.

Yesterday, Mark Pellegrino talked in some detail about his role as Lucifer on the CW hit series Supernatural (TV). Today, in the second half of our exclusive two-part interview, the talented actor sheds admittedly less light on what viewers can expect to see early in the new year when he returns to Lost (TV) as the enigmatic character, Jacob. Damn that Lost veil of secrecy! We also got Pellegrino talking about the upcoming horror film Bad Meat (2009) and even about his skeleton in the closet: the astonishingly awful action-drama on roller blades, Prayer of the Rollberboys (1990), which starred Corey Haim and Patricia Arquette. Lost is one of the most complex and dense series ever produced. Having stepped into the show so late in the game, with your first appearance in the fifth-season finale, "The Incident," how much do you need to understand the Lost universe in order to play a character as enigmatic as Jacob?...
