“The year has been in some ways just extraordinary in a beautiful way and it’s been in some ways extraordinary in a really challenging way,” proclaims Mapplethorpe producer Eliza Dushku.

The Clone Club is living on. Because reboot/revival fever will leave no dead show unturned, a new “Orphan Black” series is in development at AMC, according to our sister site Variety.
Temple Street Productions, which produced the Og “Orphan Black,” will oversee this new take and is currently taking pitches from writers, Variety reports. The new series would not be a direct spin-off or a reboot, but a new story set in the same world — kind of like the new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series. So, yes, this is the birth of the “Orphan Black” Universe.
Original creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson are not currently part of the new series, according to Entertainment Weekly. The project might also switch homes to original network BBC America, or air on both sister networks BBC America and AMC, which is what “Killing Eve” is doing for Season 2.

This past weekend, on March 10th, marked 22 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer first aired on The WB. 22 years! I can’t believe it’s been that long.
Buffy is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I’ve recently been watching it again with my daughters who have been loving it! It’s so funny to watch them react the ‘90s era of the show.
To celebrate and mark the occasion, Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Boreanaz, Nicholas Brendon, and Charisma Carpenter all chimed in on social media.

I was a teenager when ABC’s The Disney Sunday Movie aired Mr. Boogedy (1986), a haunted house tale, and I had no interest in seeing it. I was beyond such childish ventures; my horror was blood and guts and sex and probably more blood. But teenaged Scott didn’t bother to think that every horror fan starts somewhere, and at every age too – and some gateway horror is geared towards nudging the kid to the edge of the pool instead of throwing him in. If you’re looking for some fun horror water wings, Mr. Boogedy will do the trick.
Originally airing on April 20th, Mr. Boogedy did well enough against CBS’ 60 Minutes and NBC’s Punky Brewster/Silver Spoons lineups to garner a sequel the following year, Bride of Boogedy. As the ‘80s progressed, The Disney Sunday Movie didn’t quite have the same cache due to the rise of VCRs and video stores.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
From “School Ties” to “Live By Night” and this weekend’s “The Great Wall,” Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have each — for better and worse — left a considerable and ever-increasing footprint in the cultural landscape. But while the world is wide enough for both of them, our hearts are not. And so, we forced our panel of critics to choose: Ben Affleck or Matt Damon?
There can be only one.

Don't be shocked, but the era of Peak TV seems to be on the upswing.
FX has released some new research about the phenomona, and it's pretty clear there's no slowing down.
If you recall, it was FX President John Landgraf who coined the term Peak TV as a way to explain the overabundance of scripted originals, whether their quality is top notch or below par.
“Peak TV was once again far from peaky in 2016, with a record 455 scripted original series across broadcast, cable, and streaming sources,” said Julie Piepenkotter, Executive Vice President, Research, FX Networks.
“This estimate reps a +8% increase over just last year (421 in 2015) ― but an astonishing +71% increase over five years ago (266 in 2011) and +137% over a decade ago (192 in 2006).”
The change in the television landscape over the past 14 years is mind boggling.
If you look back to 2002, we were still getting the majority of our content from broadcast networks.

Maths and heavy artillery collide in The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck. Ryan reviews a very odd action-thriller...
Ben Affleck has officially hit the “injuring people with a bathroom sink” stage in his career. In the same year that brought us Affleck’s sinewy, glowering take on Batman, along comes The Accountant: a film in which he plays another multi-millionaire with a double life. Here, Affleck’s an indescribably tough mercenary who kills bad guys for his own, initially obscure ends - hence another moment involving a bathroom sink and a man’s skull.

The twist in The Accountant is that Affleck’s hero Christian Wolff is also qualified to sort out your taxes, like Jack Reacher with a master's degree in bookkeeping.

Every actor has to start their career somewhere, and most of the time the first film project for them isn't the best. ScreenRant has released a video that lists ten famous actors who got their starts with embarrassing movie roles. Some of the actors include Ben Affleck in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Denzel Washington in Heart Condition, Emilia Clarke in Triassic Attack, Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, and more. It's pretty funny to see where these big stars got their start.
Are you proud of your first job? If the answer is “no” then congratulations! You’re normal! While most of us have the luxury of being embarrassed in private, an actor’s resume is very public knowledge. And while some people get their big break right away, most of us start at the bottom. Here are 10 Famous Actors With Embarrassing Early Movie Roles.

This time we have a film which has been remade multiple times. However, we’re choosing to focus on the best of those remakes. This week, Cinelinx looks at Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978).
This often adapted story is based upon a three-part serialized story by Jack Finney which appeared originally in Colliers Magazine in 1954. It was expanded into a novel called “The Body Snatchers” in 1955.The first film version came out in 1956, and is considered one of the truly great sci-fi films. It has been remade three time, in 1978, 1993 and 2007. This article looks at the 1956 and 1978 movies because they are clearly the best of the four. Body Snatchers (1993) is just mediocre and the Invasion (2007) is just a mess. The other two are classics.
The 1956 version was written during the Cold War ‘Red Scare’, when the public was constantly reminded by our government to keep vigilant of Communist infiltration. This...

Carter Burwell is up for his first Academy Award this year, for Carol. Should the composer pick up an Oscar - and he's up against some stiff competition, from legends like Ennio Morricone and John Williams - it'll be his first in a 25-year-career. Here's a look back at some of the highlights: Burwell's longest collaboration has been with the Coen Brothers, for whom he's scored 15 films. After working on Blood Simple, Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink for the pair, Burwell did some more mainstream fare, including work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the 1995 historical epic Rob Roy, which...

[Editor's Note: In this special guest post, Joseph Maddrey, author of Beyond Fear, reflects on Deadly Friend as part of our Wes Craven tribute week.]
"For horror fans, Deadly Friend is a film that seems to have everything going for it. It’s a modern-day reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein, directed by A Nightmare on Elm Street creator Wes Craven, written by Bruce Joel Rubin (the future Oscar-winner behind Ghost and Jacob’s Ladder), and starring Kristy Swanson (the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer). But while the film has its admirers, it was a critical and commercial failure in 1986, quickly disowned by its creators and leaving viewers to wonder what went wrong....
...Deadly Friend began its life as a popular novel by Diana Henstell, simply called Friend. The story revolves around an emotionally disturbed 13-year-old boy named Paul “Piggy” Conway. Piggy is cursed with a lack of social grace, troubled over his parents’ recent divorce, and haunted by daydreams and nightmares about a violent “accident” that resulted in the fiery death of a classmate.

Twenty years after it first aired in the Us, we celebrate My So-Called Life’s brilliantly written, strongly cast pilot…
From its opening shot, My So-Called Life announces itself as distinct from its glossy Us teen TV peers. Filmed on location using natural lighting and a hand-held camera, the pre-credits sequence is a world away from candy-coloured sets and Malibu beaches. We see two teenage girls messing around on a street, hanging off one another and periodically breaking into fits of laughter. The girls speak directly to camera, addressing an unseen passer-by with a string of goofy tall stories.
One of the actresses - Claire Danes - breaks the chief rule of playing a teenager on American TV by actually being one. The other - A.J Langer - isn’t long out of her teens. With a face free of make-up and as-yet undyed mousy blonde hair, Danes is and looks fifteen,...

Carrie White may be considered by many to be the worst prom date in all of cinematic history. In Stephen King's classic Carrie, the telekinetic teen decimated her entire graduating class (and eventually the whole town) before the dance was over, and she did it without lifting a finger. But we would be remiss not to mention the circumstances leading up to that final showdown: Carrie suffered at the hands of an overbearing mother and mean-spirited classmates who relentlessly bullied her every day; it was that combination that ultimately pushed Carrie to the point of no return. But Carrie White isn’t the only cinematic prom date from hell. In fact, high school dances tend to be a somewhat common convention in horror films. When a dance serves as the epicenter of the action, it allows for maximum carnage: an entire student body crammed into a gymnasium with a...

Most horror films have a jokester, prankster, or trickster in them. Sometimes he or she is a disposable character who dies a gruesome death in the first half of the film; sometimes the role is fulfilled by the lead or main supporting character. Whether they live or die, the jokester is almost always responsible for breaking up the tense atmosphere with well-timed pranks, tricks, or smart-assery. Writers and directors have recognized the need for comic relief since the dawn of film, but it seems that the jokester role in horror has become more finely tuned over the last few decades. So for your reading pleasure, we bring to you nine of the most memorable jokesters in horror cinema... Marty – The Cabin in the Woods Marty (Fran Kranz) is the quintessential silver screen stoner, and represents almost every character that’s ever sparked up a joint in a horror film, but...

With A&E’s “Bates Motel” premiering Monday evening, now is a perfect time for Norman Bates to make his one and only B-Sides appearance. What? You didn’t know a Psycho movie spawned a pop song and MTV music video? “Scream of Love” was the Psycho III theme song. Sorry, Norman; can’t blame mother for this one.
For more than a quarter century Carter Burwell has been composing film scores. Over 80 movies boast his musical contributions; you’ve heard his work in such films as The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and even several of the Twilight films. Early in his career Burwell composed the score for the Anthony Perkins directed Psycho III. The soundtrack produced a couple original songs, mostly heard in the background coming from a jukebox. Universal, however, wanted something with more pop to it in order to promote Psycho III on MTV.

On July 31, 1992 a little movie called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" landed in theaters -- and while the flick was a critical flop, it became a cult classic and spawned a beloved TV franchise. Looking back at the movie today, on the 20th anniversary of its release, it's pretty surprising how many of the actors went on to have pretty solid careers. While Kristy Swanson has been relegated to TV movies after her scandalous run on "Skating with Celebrities," other stars in the movie have fared much better.None more so than Hilary Swank, who actually made her film debut in the movie and went on to win two Oscars for her work in "Boys Don't Cry" and "Million Dollar Baby."Other notable stars include Luke Perry, Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer, Paul "Pee-wee" Reubens and even Ben Affleck.See what the entire cast has been up to lately in the gallery above!

Jerusalem — David Arquette got more than he bargained for during his first trip to Israel.
The "Scream" star came to shoot a segment for his travel show and ended up having a bar mitzvah ceremony, too.
The 40-year-old Arquette completed the Jewish rite of passage Monday in Jerusalem at the Western Wall, the holiest place for Jews to pray.
Arquette, who recently split with former "Friends" star Courtney Cox, is the youngest of the five acting Arquette siblings: Rosanna, Richmond, Patricia and Alexis (who was born Robert).
While their father became a Muslim, their mother was born Jewish, making the children Jewish under religious law.
Jewish boys typically celebrate their bar mitzvah at 13, the age when they are obligated to perform Jewish commandments.

The 332nd Fighter Group of World War II was known as the Tuskegee Airmen. Toward the end of the war they became known as the "Red Tails" for the painted tails of their P-51 Mustang Aircraft. This fighter group is well known for several reasons: Its pilots were all African-American men, who served with distinction and were some of the most highly decorated fighter pilots in World War II. The 332nd has appeared in a number of documentaries, films and television shows. Red Tails is the latest attempt to tell the story of these airmen.

It's that time of year again - pumpkins line porches, bags of candy fill the drugstore shelves, and children everywhere are encouraged by their parents to ring the bells of strangers' houses and demand handouts.
Halloween season also is the one time of year where it's pretty much impossible to avoid horror movies. Welcome back to Junkfood Cinema; we’re so metal we can’t get through airport security. Every week during the month of October we will be showcasing the shockingly schlocky, the horrifyingly horrible, and the most terrifyingly terrible horror films we can get our claws on. We will drive a lampooning stake through the film’s heart and laugh maniacally as it takes longer to die than Paul Reubens in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But then, because we learned nothing from The Evil Dead, we will resurrect the film by reciting passages from the necronomicon of pure adoration. To complete the blood ritual, we will pair the film with a insidiously delicious snack food item in the hopes that we can create for you a completely interactive horror film experience by actually shortening your life. This Week’s Beast: Black Roses The basic story here, and I do mean basic, is...

If good things come to those who wait, fans of USA's "Psych" can probably expect a stellar sixth season from the network's longest running show.
Skipping its traditional summer slot in favor of a fall premiere in 2011, the gap between Seasons 5 and 6 of "Psych" mark the longest since the show debuted in 2006.
But the wait comes to an end on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when the network confirms Season 6 will kick off in its 10:00 p.m. Et timeslot.
In addition to the previously mentioned "Indiana Jones" spoof, super heroes episode and introduction of William Shatner as Juliet's (Maggie Lawson) father, a release from USA also makes special note of an upcoming vampire episode (co-written and directed by star James Roday), featuring vampire film icons Kristy Swanson (the original "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and Corey Feldman ("Lost Boys).
Season 6 will also explore Shawn and Juliet's evolving relationship, how their coupling affects Gus...

Before we get down to the business of mocking teenagers for their teenager ways, I thought I'd first try and offer some perspective. First: Some of the winners in this year's Teen Choice Awards aren't bad. Where Harry Potter is concerned, I'd expect most teenagers today choose it as the best movie. At that age, I probably would have, as well. Also, Easy A wins a few categories here (as does Emma Stone) and, at 17, that movie would've been rocked my Jordan Knight pompadour, too. They also choose Black Swan and Natalie Portman in a couple of categories, which are fine choices. More inexplicable are the wins for the likes of Just Go With It, Brooklyn Decker, and Bad Teacher (as well as Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake). Not only is Bad Teacher a terrible movie, but the target audience aren't even teenagers (it was R-rated, as was Black Swan,...
