Actress Angela Bassett is a sport when it comes to poking a little fun at herself.
The actress appeared on the latest episode of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ and reacted to a video of Keke Palmer doing her best impression of Bassett during a November 2021 appearance on the late-night show.
The show host Jimmy Fallon introduced a throwback clip, and said, “You know who loves you? Our pal Keke Palmer. We love Keke. She came on our show and she did an impression of you,” reports ‘People’ magazine.
The video showed Palmer, 30, impersonating Bassett’s portrayal of Katherine Jackson in the 1992 miniseries ‘The Jacksons: An American Dream’.
“I do one where, I don’t know if you guys have seen it. It’s the American Dream. The Michael Jackson story where she plays Katherine Jackson”, Palmer said in the video.

It’s hard to believe that season 9 of “The Masked Singer” has seen the departure of eight celebrities already. The most recent exits were Squirrel, who was revealed to be actress Malin Akerman, and Jackalope, who turned out to be social media sensation Lele Pons. The latter lost the Battle Royale to Fairy on March 15.
We’ve watched Fairy’s winning performance of “On Top of the World” by Imagine Dragons again as well as her first time at the mike when she nailed a cover of the Linda Ronstadt classic “You’re No Good.” And we’ve taken another look at her clues package. We think we’ve cracked the code as to Fairy’s true identity. Keep reading as we have all your “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is Fairy?”

While she is currently nominated for an Oscar for playing mother to a different kind of dynasty, one of the roles that made Angela Bassett a screen icon was matriarch Katherine Jackson in the 1992 miniseries “The Jacksons: An American Dream,” a job she said she was advised not to take.
During an appearance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 9 to accept the 38th annual Montecito Award, the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” actress sat down for a career-spanning conversation with the festival’s executive director Roger Durling and revealed that she was in the middle of auditioning for the ABC TV event about the musical family when her agents said, “You know what, there’s a lot of allegations about Michael [Jackson] in the press, and we don’t think you should do this project.”
The situation was a blow to Bassett, as someone who had been a lifelong fan of the Jacksons.

Motown founder Berry Gordy had a galaxy of star executives helping him build the company into the powerhouse it became, but not many of them shone as brightly as Suzanne de Passe.
Joining the company relatively late in its heyday, de Passe moved from her native Harlem to Detroit in 1968 and soon convinced a skeptical Berry to sign a group of kids calling themselves the Jackson 5. She quickly took charge of developing the group into the pop-culture juggernaut they immediately became — their first four singles went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — developing their live show, imaging, choreography, television appearances and much more. Her next signing? An R&b combo called the Commodores featuring a young singer named Lionel Richie.
After being named the company’s West Coast head of A&R she went on to work with Rick James and others, while gradually transitioning into her main career: as a TV and film executive,...

"Cooley High" ought to be remembered as a cinema milestone, and its writer and director remembered as pioneers.
Released 40 years ago this week (on June 25, 1975), it ought to be celebrated for its vast influence on movies, TV, and music. As a young-men-coming-of-age movie, it deserves to be mentioned alongside Fellini's "I Vitelloni," George Lucas's "American Graffiti," Barry Levinson's "Diner," and John Singleton's "Boyz N the Hood." And yet, the film and its creators have been largely forgotten, lost to history.
The story behind "Cooley High" is even more dramatic than the comedy-drama that unspooled on the screen. It's the story of Kenneth Williams, who, like protagonist Preach, left Chicago's Cabrini-Green projects with dreams of becoming a Hollywood screenwriter. Having dropped out of high school, he hitchhiked from the Windy City to Hollywood with $5 in his pocket and no connections, and for a while he supported himself selling drugs.

Forty years after its theatrical release, Michael Schultz’s poignant early title Cooley High (1975) comes to Blu-ray. A prominent figure in film in the 70s and 80s thanks to iconic titles like the progressive Car Wash (1976), martial arts film The Last Dragon (1986), and the excellent 1977 Richard Pryor film Which Way is Up? (a remake of Wertmuller’s The Seduction of Mimi), Schultz tends to get left out of deserving discussions as concerns black filmmakers.
References to this 60s period piece concerning a group of friends growing up in the Chicago housing projects is often referred to as the black American Graffiti, a thankless distinction, to be sure. Operating outside of the Blaxploitation paradigm, Schultz and screenwriter Eric Monte (apparently portions of this are autobiographical) simply recreate a certain period wherein two friends learn hard lessons as they grow to realize the cruelty of the world around them. Less dramatic than...

Fans were crushed when Jessica Lange announced she'd be doing just one more season -- the upcoming "Freak Show" -- of "American Horror Story." Before the PaleyFest panel for "American Horror Story: Coven" I got a chance to ask Angela Bassett what she thought about the "queen bee" leaving. The short answer? She's got her co-star's back. Bassett also knows a little something about playing real-life characters. She's been Tina Turner ("What's Love Got to Do with It"), Betty Shabazz ("Malcolm X"), Rosa Parks ("The Rosa Parks Story"), Katherine Jackson ("The Jacksons: An American Dream") and Voletta Wallace ("Notorious"). Last season on "Coven" she tackled yet another real person -- Marie Laveau, a voodoo priestess in Louisiana in the 1800s. Unsurprisingly, she told me she takes playing real people pretty seriously -- and had to face the high standards of New Orleans' dwellers. Yeah, I think she did fine, don't you?...

We lost the King of Pop in the summer of 2009, and now Showblitz is reporting that Michael Jackson‘s estate is hitting up the studios to sell them on a biopic, specifically Montecito Picture Company (the production group owned by Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock). The timing clearly indicates that the estate was held up by Dr. Conrad Murray’s trial. It was somber and celebratory to get This Is It so soon after the singer’s death because it showed a different side of the entertainer during the last major creative endeavor of his life. A biopic, on the other hand, is tough to grasp. Financially, it makes all the sense in the world to capitalize on Jackson’s fame (or to share another story about him with his fans, if you’re not cynical). However, it’ll be a serious challenge to bring Jackson back to life on the big screen, even...

In addition to the mass moonwalks that undoubtedly will pop up all over the globe, TV networks are scrambling to provide coverage for still-grieving fans of the fallen King of Pop. Aside from the reverent tribute specials — including the Bet Awards, which will honor Jackson this Sunday — there will be video countdowns, tours of Neverland Ranch, and documentaries on the Jackson family. Michael Jackson's death has resulted in a TV event when networks are racing against each other to air a tribute to the late King of Pop. Within hours after the singer was pronounced dead on Thursday, June 25, NBC and CBS gathered up documentary about his life but it was CNN's coverage that led the Thursday night rating.
The news channel drew up to 3.9 million viewers despite fierce competition from Fox News (2.9 million) and MSNBC (1.4 million). According to TV by the Numbers, the numbers show a boost on average performance by the networks with CNN in particular gaining 381% raise from its second quarter average.
However, more similar footage about Michael are expected to run for weeks. Below is the run-down of tributes airing on several networks in the days to come. Some may be mashed with tributes for Farrah Fawcett who also passed away on the same day Michael did.
