Soccer Mommy, a.k.a. Sophie Allison, has revealed a video for “Crawling in My Skin,” off her latest album Color Theory.

Soccer Mommy was originally scheduled to perform a Tiny Desk concert for NPR this month with video of the performance to be released on March 30th. But with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, social distancing is a must, and NPR has decided to take a break from filming Tiny Desk shows in the office. As such, Sophie Allison kicks off NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts, performing in front of her computer camera.
In the video, Allison plays three tracks off her latest album Color Theory: “Bloodstream,” “Circle the Drain” and “Royal Screw Up.

Towards the beginning of Soccer Mommy’s new album, Color Theory, she gives a startling confession: “I am the princess of screwing up.” The singer-songwriter, real name Sophie Allison, is just two years into her twenties, but she sounds as if she’s been navigating early adulthood for decades, wading through the waters of depression and sadness while fighting a few demons along the way. “My world is sinking,” she sings on “Royal Screw Up,” “and I am the captain of it all.”

Following her performance at Bernie Sanders’ campaign rally in Houston Sunday, Soccer Mommy has released the third and final single from her album Color Theory, out this Friday via Loma Vista.
The track, “Bloodstream,” is the album opener, and a meditation on childhood loneliness and chasing down happiness. “Hydrangeas blooming of the branches of park trees/It’s a half-hearted calm — the way I’ve felt since I was 13,” Sophie Allison sings over a churning guitar that wouldn’t be out of place in a Nineties teen comedy. “‘Cause I may not feel it now,...

Netflix is rounding out its cast for Daybreak, its upcoming high school apocalypse dramedy series. Joining the series opposite Matthew Broderick are Colin Ford, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Sophie Simnett, Austin Crute, Gregory Kasyan, Krysta Rodriguez, Cody Kearsley and Jeante Godlock (The Simone Biles Story: Courage to Soar).
Co-created by Aron Eli Coleite and Brad Peyton based on Brian Ralph’s graphic novel, the 10-episode Daybreak finds 17-year-old high school outcast Josh (Ford) searching for his missing girlfriend Sam (Simnett) in post-apocalyptic Glendale, CA. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12-year-old Angelica (Lind) and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley (Crute), now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs, zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.
Ford will play Josh Wheeler. Josh is an ordinary kid who learns he’s not so ordinary after all when the bombs drop. The apocalypse is the best thing that ever happened to him. He can finally be the hero he read about in comic books. Josh’s search for his lost love leads him to become a reluctant leader of an ad hoc tribe of outliers and misfits.
Lind will portray Angelica. A precocious, abrasive pyromaniac, Angelica is a pain in the ass who Josh accidentally saves from a bloodthirsty gang when he mistakes her screams for Sam’s. She begs Josh and Wesley to let her team up with them, and her flair for making Molotov cocktails starts to come in very handy.
Simnett is Samaira “Sam” Dean. A soulful, radiant girl who is outgoing and well-liked by everyone she meets — particularly Josh, who is smitten with her at first sight. Their budding romance is literally nuked when atomic bombs decimate civilization.
Crute will play Wesley Fists. A football star with budding movie star looks and a penchant for swords, he was part of a system that ostracized and terrorized the students beneath him on the social totem pole (like Josh). But when Josh and Wesley meet once again in the apocalypse, Wesley is trying to follow the path of Eastern enlightenment and non-violence.
Kasyan will portray Eli Cardashyan. In high school, Eli was one of the have-nots. In the apocalypse, Eli has barricaded himself inside the mall and now he has everything he could possibly want – every brand-name sneaker, every iPhone (never mind that there’s no service anymore), and gifts galore for his (possibly imaginary) girlfriend.
Rodriguez is Ms. Crumble. Once the high school biology teacher, Ms. Crumble is one of the only adults known by our characters to have survived the bomb. Something’s very wrong with her brain, but she’s a subject of great fascination for Angelica.
Kearsley will play Turbo Bro Jock. A fierce, handsome football player with a terrifyingly stoic manner, he has assembled all the athletic teen teams of Glendale into one, big, murderous crew, and he’s the team captain. When Josh and his tiny gang outsmart his peeps, decimating their ranks, Turbo is determined to track his adversaries down and do his worst.
Godlock will portray Mona Lisa. This tough female athlete got her nickname because she never smiles. She’s a member of Turbo’s brutal team of jocks and his closest consigliere.
Coleite also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Peyton also directs and executive produces with his producing partner Jeff Fierson via their production shingle Asap Entertainment.
Godlock is repped by Sherry Marsh at Marsh Entertainment, Aefh Agency, and Darrell Miller at Fox Rothschild. Rodriguez is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency. Lind is repped by Coast to Coast Talent Group and Bloom Hergott Diemer. Simnett is repped by Waring & McKenna and Circle of Confusion. Crute is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency and manager Alana Aksoy. Kasyan is repped by Abrams Artists Agency and La Management. Kearsley is repped by Red Management and Industry Entertainment.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has set up his lifelong passion project, a new adaptation of “Pinocchio” at Netflix, the company announced on Monday.
Del Toro is making his animated feature film directorial debut on the project which he will also write and produce as a stop-motion musical. “Pinocchio” will be del Toro’s first feature film since “The Shape of Water,” which won four Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture.
Del Toro has set his retelling of “Pinocchio” in Italy during the 1930s.
This marks an expansion of Netflix’s existing relationship with Guillermo del Toro, who created their Emmy award-winning television series DreamWorks’ “Trollhunters,” the first installment of the DreamWorks’ “Tales of Arcadia” trilogy. The next chapter, “3Below,” is set to debut on December 21, 2018, followed by “Wizards” in 2019. He is also the creator of the upcoming Netflix series, “Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight.”

Fans of seeing Matthew Broderick on a TV screen, today you’ve presumably been waiting for.
Word came Friday that the actor would have not one but three fresh new roles in the coming year, all on shows with distinct comedic flavors. Perhaps most notably is an upcoming recurring part on Pamela Adlon’s FX series “Better Things.” For those more inclined to broadcast comedies, he’ll be one of the actors filling the Roseanne void on the newly unveiled “The Conners,” where he’ll play alongside fellow Broadway vet Laurie Metcalf as Jackie’s new fling. His first episode, a Halloween-themed one, is slated to air at the end of this month.
Broderick will also be going back to school for the upcoming Netflix series “Daybreak.” The show (which you may have been hearing about from writer Ira Madison III’s Twitter feed) follows a group of teenagers navigating their way through Glendale,...

Projects confirmed for the complex include two currently-in-production series: dramedy Daybreak, which follows a 17-year-old outcast trying to find his missing girlfriend in the middle of the apocalypse, and suspense Messiah, about an ensemble cast of characters reacting to the news that a man from the Middle East believes he was sent by God.
Both series, which each have a 10-episode first season on the docket, have been filming in the Albuquerque area.

Netflix announced Albuquerque, N.M., as the site of a new U.S. production hub — which the company said will bring upwards of $1 billion in production money to New Mexico over the next decade and up to 1,000 production jobs per year.
Netflix said it is in final negotiations to buy Abq Studios, located in Albuquerque’s Mesa del Sol planned community, as the base for its operations in the state. The deal is the company’s first purchase of a production studio complex; terms of the deal aren’t being disclosed. Abq Studios, which opened in 2007, is currently owned by Pacifica Ventures.
The move comes after Netflix set plans for a significant expansion of its presence in Los Angeles last week, signing a lease through 2031 on a 13-story tower in Hollywood set to be completed in 2020 that is adjacent to its existing L.A. offices and production facilities at the Sunset Bronson Studios lot.

Netflix is opening a production hub in Albuquerque, where it plans to shift production for some of its films and TV shows, in an announcement that represents a snub of Los Angeles.

Netflix says it will use the new studio for production of its irreverent apocalypse dramedy Daybreak, supernatural drama Chambers, and epic, suspenseful drama Messiah.
The state of New Mexico offered Netflix incentives to locate in the self-proclaimed “land of enchantment,” extending $10 million in funding through the Local Economic Development Act. The City of Albuquerque ponied up another $4.5 million.

Instinctively, The Wife embodies every notion that "behind every successful man there is a good woman" or something to that effect. In the case of Swedish director Bjorn Runge's literate marital melodrama this known sentiment stretches beyond the simplicity of that common saying. Indeed, The Wife has a captivating way about its quiet explosiveness that feels so effortless in its character study of elusive female empowerment at the helm of a troubled marriage and the contained emotional boundaries that are looking to burst from years of matrimonial malaise. What could have been essentially a cliched and conventional look at a typical marriage at the crossroads surprisingly resonates as a solid drama of conviction highlighted by a convincing and probing performance by Glen Close. In fact, Close's mature...

Netflix has ordered “White Lines,” a new series from the producers of “The Crown” and “La Casa de Papel,” the streamer announced at its Television Critics Assn. press tour session Sunday.
The drama centers on the investigation into a legendary Manchester DJ’s disappearance from Ibiza. Two decades after he mysteriously disappeared from the Spanish island, his body is discovered, which leads his sister to travel there to find out what happened to him. In her search, she will be lead through a “thrilling world” of dance music, super yachts, lies and cover-ups — all which force her to “confront the darker sides of her own character in a place where people live life on the edge.”
“La Casa de Papel’s” Alex Pina will write and serve as showrunner, with Andy Harries and Sharon Hughff executive producing for Left Bank. Pina and Cristina Lopez will executive produce for Vancouver Media.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “Yellowstone” Season 1, Episode 1: “Daybreak.”]
Writing and directing the entire season of “Yellowstone” wasn’t always the plan for Taylor Sheridan. When plans to bring in other people in both roles for Season 1 of the Paramount Network series fell through, Sheridan says that being behind the camera for all 10 episodes actually alleviated some of the standard stylistic pressures of a TV show’s first episode.
“A lot of times in TV, you build a world with a pilot and then you try and replicate that world. But since I was the producer and the director and the writer, I didn’t have to hold myself to what I had done,” Sheridan told IndieWire. “It allowed me to make changes visually as the thing evolved, that hopefully make it feel fresh and unexpected. So I think that was probably the best benefit of it, looking back.”

“H1Z1” developer Daybreak Game Company recently laid off an unspecified number of staff, cutting jobs across various departments, according to Gamasutra.
The studio confirmed the layoffs Thursday. It didn’t say how many people were affected, but rumors are the “H1Z1” team was majorly impacted.
The lack of information is nothing new, a former employee who wishes to remain anonymous told Variety. Having survived a number of layoffs while at the company, they said Daybreak never officially notified employees when it was making cuts. “I would just look around and notice people were gone,” they said. “We had ten employees before. Now we only had three. We had to establish new guidelines about what we could and couldn’t do going forward. How are we going to handle this?”
“They’ve always been tight-lipped,” they said.

Despite the devastating mudslides that overwhelmed the Santa Barbara, California community of Montecito last week — resulting in at least 20 deaths and the destruction of 100-plus homes — the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (Sbiff) will go on as usual. A reason to celebrate is “needed now more than ever,” wrote Sbiff director Roger Durling in a letter soon to be shared with festival-goers. He continued, “It is an opportunity for people to gather – reflect – experience – feel – and process,” noting that cinema attendance was strong during the Great Depression.
Launched in 1986, this year’s Sbiff will include films from 58 countries. Numbered among its 45 world premieres is opening night film “the public,” the first feature written and directed by Emilio Estevez since 2010’s “The Way.” Set at a Cincinnati public library, the film follows its homeless and marginalized patrons during a dangerous cold spell. “We didn’t get mad, we got smart,” HBO CEO Michael Fuchs said about hitting The Wall, looking back at HBO stalling in 1984 from the vantage of the early 1990s. Actually, a lot of the rank and file didn’t get mad or smart; we’d seen 125 of our friends and colleagues get shown the door when the company had suddenly flatlined after eight years of phenomenal growth, and what we got was scared.
But it’s to the credit of HBO’s execs that whatever anxieties they may have had, they showed no panic or even nervousness in public. Instead, they poured any concerns into energetically and immediately addressing the question of, “What do we do now?” The world we knew had changed and there was no going back to the Gold Rush days of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
