Paul Walter Hauser will slip into the life and mind of late comedian Chris Farley in a forthcoming biopic. The film, set to be directed by Josh Gad, is currently in development. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber will provide the screenplay based on the book The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts, published by Farley’s brother Tom Farley Jr. and Tanner Colby in 2008.

A biopic about the life of the late “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Farley is in the works, IndieWire has confirmed.
Emmy-winner Paul Walter Hauser is attached to star as Farley, and Josh Gad would direct the project. “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels is producing the feature biopic via his Broadway Video production banner. Gad, the Broadway star and “Frozen” actor, would make his feature directorial debut on the film.
Right now the project is just at the package stage and being presented to interested buyers looking to make it, but it surely will be an in-demand package that could go quickly and make this movie a reality sooner rather than later. It also helps that the Farley family has given its blessing to the project.

Here's a lesson for the kids out there: speak your dreams into existence and maybe, just maybe, they'll actually come true. Tragically, those who follow the comedy scene closely know that it's littered with high-profile examples of beloved talent who ended up burning out and leaving us far too soon. This one, however, might end up circling back to the best of silver linings.
Today's news has to do with Chris Farley, the late, great "Saturday Night Live" actor and comedian who passed away at the age of 33 back in 1997. He may not be as well-known a quantity among younger generations, but their older siblings and parents can certainly fill them in on the prolific, scene-stealing theatrics of the man who rose to prominence through "SNL" and subsequently made audiences cry with laughter in movies such as "Wayne's World" and its sequel, "Coneheads," "Airheads," and even an uncredited role in Adam Sandler's "Billy Madison.

Besides Adam Sandler’s baggy polo and basketball shorts, there’s something else that people find quite fascinating about him, and that is the impressive box office numbers he holds. Truth be told, he is indeed a pioneer of a certain type of comedy in Hollywood.
Consequently, his films have carved out a unique space for themselves despite not being favored by critics. Well now, criticism may come and go, but Sandler’s got his finger on the pulse of his craft. There’s something about Sandler that people might never figure out, but one thing’s for sure, the Sandler magic is real.

Adam Sandler is one of the most prolific comedy actors working in Hollywood right now. The actor has his particular brand of comedy, with his gruff voice, loud humor, and the inclusion of Kevin James in many of his films. Though the actor has proved his acting chops in more dramatic roles such as Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, his comedic roles are still classics.
One of his breakthrough comedies was the sports comedy Happy Gilmore. The film follows the story of an ice hockey player who competes in a local golf tournament. The film was a huge commercial hit, putting Sandler on the map as a bonafide comedy star. His co-star Christopher McDonald mentioned that Sandler had shown him a copy of a sequel for the film.

It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Brendan Fraser is accustomed to being underestimated Until recently, he was never looked at as that kind of actor – the kind that’s considered a major contender during awards season. That all changed thanks to his seminal Oscar-winning performance in “The Whale” (from director Darren Aronofsky). But the truth is that he’s been a quality actor for a long time, and if his Big Moment wasn’t necessarily inevitable, it was perhaps overdue.
The actor who was born on December 3, 1968 in Indianapolis, Indiana has been best known until now for starring in the “The Mummy” franchise. But Fraser has been a consistent presence on screens big and small for three decades, going back to his days headlining agreeably lowbrow comedies like “Encino Man” from 1992 and “Airheads” in [94. He also had a role in a Best Picture Oscar winner (2004’s “Crash”) and a pair of dramas that drew universal critical praise (“Gods and Monsters” from 1998 and “The Quiet American” from 2002). If Fraser ran into a bit of a slump over the past 15 years or so,...

It seemed like he'd be with us forever, but the iconic game show presented and primetime TV mainstay Bob Barker has died at the age of 99. Barker was best known as the long-running host of "The Price is Right" revival, which premiered on CBS in 1972. Barker told contestants to "Come on down!" and ushered them through the fabulous Showcase Showdown innumerable times during his tenure as host through 2007. But even before those three-plus decades of television excellence, Barker had already hosted the popular game show "Truth or Consequences" for 21 years, between 1956 and 1975.
Barker is perhaps the most prolific game show presenter in American broadcast history, but his eminence extended beyond daytime TV. His trademark combination of unflappable reliability, chivalrous old-school charm, and slight underbelly of mischievous caddishness lent itself to a remarkable ability to send up his own persona in cameo roles in films and scripted television series. Adapting the biography of a singular figure is hard enough, but how do you adapt the autobiography of a band? Bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist Mick Mars, drummer Tommy Lee, and Vince Neil joined forces to make Mötley Crüe, one of the most successful bands of the 1980s and well-documented hedonist troublemakers.
In 2001, all four members of the band along with Neil Strauss released an autobiography called "The Dirt," describing the group as "the world's most notorious rock band." The book shot to the top 10 on the New York Times Best Seller list and stayed there for 10 weeks. On a personal note, I used the book as the subject of my own freshman year biography project book report in 2004, when I showed up to school dressed like Nikki Sixx and delivered my presentation in full character ... much to my teacher's chagrin.

Academy Award-winner Brendan Fraser kept the party going a full day after the 2023 Oscars on March 12. Solidifying his status as a cool dad, "The Whale" star - who attended the award show with his two children and his girlfriend Jeanne Moore - showed up to support his guitarist son, Leland Fraser, at the 16-year-old's concert the night after the film ceremony.
During the show, held at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, Leland hopped up on stage to jam with '80s cover band Fast Times. "Wild night at The Whiskey," he captioned a clip of himself shredding on guitar. DJ Ashba, who performed the same night, hopped in the comments section to show his support for the young musician. "Yo bro! You killed it last night!" he wrote.
In photos from the event shared on Fast Times's Instagram account, Brendan threw up a pair of devil horns while hanging out with the band.

Like most people, I have a great reverence for Brendan Fraser. I have no qualms admitting "Encino Man" is one of my earliest comfort films, as is "Airheads," and I'm a staunch defender of his performance in Henry Selick's "Monkeybone." Yes, I too would also "honk if I'd rather be watching the 1999 cinematic masterpiece 'The Mummy' starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz," upon seeing the viral SuperYaki bumper sticker in the wild, but I can also sing the dolphin song from "Bedazzled" by heart. Brendan Fraser is a performer I have loved for so long I cannot remember when he wasn't one of my favorite actors. Knowing that this multi-faceted performer has won the Oscar for Best Actor feels like something worth celebrating with the same intensity as watching the underdog team win the Super Bowl, but Fraser's win comes wrapped in the violent, grotesque embrace of Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale.

The 1984 movie Ghostbusters was an instant classic, and over the years, it has only become more beloved. Fans love the movie for the witty dialogue, the original concept, and, of course, the iconic characters. One of these characters is Winston Zeddemore, played to perfection by Ernie Hudson. Sardonic and laid-back, Winston was the perfect accompaniment to the rambunctious trio of scientists, played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. However, behind the scenes, Hudson struggled to feel included in Ghostbusters, as he revealed in a recent interview with SiriusXM.
Ernie Hudson starred in both original ‘Ghostbusters’ films
Hudson’s character, Winston Zeddemore, was introduced about halfway through the first Ghostbusters film. Relaxed and charming, Winston was ready to join the Ghostbusters team — as long as he was compensated for his efforts. He easily fit in with the crew, helping them save New York City from an invading army of hostile spirits,...

“It’s a film that always had the intention to change hearts and minds,” Brendan Fraser said of The Whale, for which he is nominated for the best actor Oscar, ahead of receiving the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s American Riviera Award on Tuesday night.
The popular star, who was greeted with huge applause by the Santa Barbarians who packed the historic Arlington Theater, discussed his life and career with Deadline‘s Pete Hammond, who described the actor’s recent resurgence, after several years out of the spotlight that he had occupied since the early 1990s, as “the Brenaissance.”
Coming from an “itinerate family” that spent considerable time in Europe, Fraser said that seeing plays in London as a kid hooked him on the idea of becoming an actor. He studied at a conservatory in Seattle before heading to L.A. in 1991, where he was asked by Sherry Lansing...

With the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards upon us, comeback kid Brendan Fraser is poised to win an Oscar for his heartbreaking, gut-wrenching performance in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale" (read /Film's spot on review of the film here). If Fraser, famous for his swashbuckling days as Rick O'Connell in "The Mummy" franchise and off-the-wall comedies like "Airheads," wasn't ever considered a serious dramatic actor, he is now. Appearing as a guest on the "Saturday Night Live" deep dive podcast "Fly on the Wall" hosted by Dana Carvey and David Spade, Fraser opened up about his early days in the business when he was determined to be taken seriously as a performer.

Chris Farley may have died too soon -- he was only 33 years old when he passed away on December 18, 1997 from a drug overdose and heart disease -- but he left us a great comedy legacy. Born in Madison, Wisconsin on February 15, 1964, Farley developed a reputation from a young age as someone who loved to entertain those around him. Entertainment was something that he pursued later in his education, as he studied theater in college, along with communications. He further developed his comedy chops with numerous performing troupes, including the Second City theater, where he learned from improv instructor Del Close, the teacher of such comedy icons as Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, and John and James Belushi.
It wasn't long before Farley got his first big break. Lorne Michaels, the producer and co-creator of "Saturday Night Live," took notice of his talent and cast him on the show in 1990. Farley was...

If you're a fan of the late comedian Chris Farley, you've most likely seen his famous "Saturday Night Live" sketch "Chippendales Audition." It first aired on October 27, 1990, and was the first to feature Farley in a lead role. It's probably his most famous sketch, though it's not without controversy.
In the scene, host Patrick Swayze ("Dirty Dancing") plays Adrian and Farley plays Barney, two dancers auditioning to become part of the famous Chippendales dancers. Jan Hooks ("3rd Rock from the Sun"), Kevin Nealon ("Weeds"), and Mike Myers are there to judge them as they dance to "Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy. The two of them dance together on the stage, with Swayze doing all the expert moves you'd expect and Farley honestly working just as hard. He was one of the kings of physical comedy, after all. Once the dancers finish their routines, they wait backstage and give each other pep talks.

It’s somewhat hard to believe, but Adam Sandler — the guest on this edition of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in late 2022 in front of an audience at the Newport Beach Film Festival, where Sandler received the fest’s performance of the year award — has been a star for more than 30 years now.
Hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live in 1990, the Brooklyn-born comedian soon began appearing in his own sketches and won over audiences with his madcap man-child characters. He then transitioned to a film career, co-writing and starring in movies about lovable losers who win the day, like 1995’s Billy Madison, 1996’s Happy Gilmore and 1998’s The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy.
While Sandler, now 56, has continued to consistently pump out unabashedly goofy comedies to which audiences have flocked, he has also, with increasing frequency, taken aback critics by deploying serious acting...

The six participants on this Oscar season’s edition of THR’s Actor Roundtable can speak to a wide variety of showbiz experiences.
Ranging in age from 30 to 56, some started out as child actors (Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Key Huy Quan and Elvis’ Austin Butler), others have anchored big studio blockbusters (Hustle’s Adam Sandler and The Whale’s Brendan Fraser) and still others are longtime critics’ darlings (The Banshees of Inisherin’s Colin Farrell and The Inspection’s Jeremy Pope). But there is one thing that none of them has ever experienced: an Oscar nomination.

During his all-too-brief life, comedian Chris Farley created a legacy that's still discussed and enjoyed today. As with many talents that burn bright, Farley had issues with addiction and often struggled to stay on top of his vices despite frequent pleas to stop from friends and colleagues. Ultimately, he died from a drug overdose in 1997 at the age of just 33 in a moment that eerily mirrored the fate of his "Saturday Night Live" idol, John Belushi.
Despite 25 years passing since his death, Farley's work and its impact on comedy feel more alive than ever. The presumptive Oscar nominee joins a list of Spotlight Award winners that includes Trumbo‘s Bryan Cranston and Hacksaw Ridge‘s Andrew Garfield, both of whom went on to noms from the Academy for their respective projects.
Additional, previously announced honorees of this year’s Palm Springs Film Awards include Tár‘s Cate Blanchett,, Elvis‘s Austin Butler, The Woman King‘s Viola Davis (Chairman’s Award), Till‘s Danielle Deadwyler, The Banshees of Inisherin‘s Colin Farrell, Living‘s Bill Nighy, Women Talking filmmaker Sarah Polley (Director of the Year Award) and Everything Everywhere All at Once‘s Michelle Yeoh (International Star Award), as well as Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical feature, The Fabelmans (Vanguard Award).

We are one again in the era of Brendan Fraser, everyone, and the internet could not be more happy to welcome one of the most cherished actors of the 1990s and 2000s back into the spotlight.
Fraser starred in his first on-screen role in "Dogfight" in 1991, but gained traction through roles in bigger films throughout the 1990s, like Chester Darby in "Airheads" alongside Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi and George in "George of the Jungle" alongside Leslie Mann. The actor's breakout role, arguably, came in 1999 when he portrayed archeologist Rick O' Connell in "The Mummy," which only helped to propel him into blockbuster films, like "The Mummy Returns," "Looney Tunes: Back in Action," and "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
By the 2010s, however, Fraser was constantly patching up injuries sustained on set, which eventually took a toll on his ability to function as a person, let alone an actor.

Adam Sandler is best known for his goofy comedic films, but he has also had several renowned dramatic roles. Perhaps his most compelling performance was in the 2002 film "Punch-Drunk Love," written and directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. The cast also included Philip Seymour Hoffman, an Academy Award-winning actor and a frequent collaborator of Anderson's. Hoffman plays Sandler's adversary onscreen, an angry mattress salesman, but the two developed a great rapport behind the scenes.
Sandler agreed to work with Anderson because he was a fan of his previous films, "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia," he told Charlie Rose. Consequently, it came as no surprise when he learned that Philip Seymour Hoffman, who had major roles in both films, would be playing a supporting role in "Punch-Drunk Love." The two actors actually met years before ever setting foot on the set. In fact, Hoffman actually auditioned for the part of...

Brendan Fraser’s 1997 comedy favorite “George of the Jungle” spawned a 2003 direct-to-dvd sequel in which Fraser was replaced by actor Christopher Showerman. Several characters comment on the actor switch in “George of the Jungle 2,” with one joking that Disney was too cheap to hire Fraser for a second time. It turns out that was true. Fraser recently confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he was approached for “George of the Jungle 2” but turned down the offer because of the salary.
“I think ‘George’ got a remake, and they built a joke into it that the studio was too cheap to hire me, which wasn’t inaccurate,” Fraser said.
“I was approached. I can’t remember what I was doing at the time, but I felt like I wanted to go do ‘The Quiet American’ instead with Michael Caine, and shoot the first Western film in Vietnam ever, directed by Phillip Noyce,...

One of the most beloved actors around these days is Brendan Fraser, who is the source of a ridiculous amount of compassion and humble energy and has inspired the rarest of rare things: positivity on the internet. People love Fraser, they're cheering him on and celebrating his successes, which all comes to a head with his certainly award-worthy performance in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale." Fraser plays Charlie, a 600-lb. man whose mortality is staring him dead in the face who takes it upon himself to reach out to those who should be closest to him, namely his daughter, played by "Stranger Things" breakout star Sadie Sink.
In a recent interview conducted by his "Airheads" co-star, Adam Sandler for Variety, Fraser talks about his career and about the process of making "The Whale." The actor specifically hones in on the incredible talent of his young co-star and the raw intensity she brought to the performance.

In a pairing that delighted '90s kids the world over, Adam Sandler and Brendan Fraser recently sat down for an interview as part of Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, serving as both an "Airheads" reunion for the pair and a conversation between two of the biggest and most bankable stars at the end of the 20th century. Fraser had his breakthrough role in the comedy "Encino Man," which showed his ability to play a charming, hilarious, and hunky character that has had a pretty unconventional upbringing. This performance, paired with his rising star in Hollywood, made him the perfect choice to play the titular "George of the Jungle" in Sam Weisman's film for Disney.
In talking about the role, Sandler playfully acknowledged that Fraser was "jacked" and so "good-looking" in the film that it disappointed him. "You weren't supposed to do that to us," he joked. "You did right by the character,...

Brendan Fraser and Adam Sandler have an epic “Airheads” reunion for Variety‘s new Actors on Actors issue.
The actors take a trip down memory lane, all the way back to the 90s when they first worked together on the 1994 comedy “Airheads” where they played two band members who hijack a radio station out of desperation to make it big.
However, Sandler reveals that Fraser almost wasn’t cast as singer Chazz Darby.
The “Grown Ups” actor explains that, at the time, he discovered Fraser, who was then known best for portraying an unfrozen caveman in “Encino Man”, and had to fight for him to be a part of “Airheads”.

Adam Sandler is notorious for taking care of his friends. Whether he’s lining them up as producers for his latest off-color comedy or celebrating their talents during interviews, the Saturday Night Live alum is not afraid to go to bat for who he believes in. Speaking on Variety’s Actors on Actors, Sandler said he recognized Brendan Fraser‘s talent after seeing him in 1992’s Encino Man and knew he deserved more significant roles.

Brendan Fraser and Adam Sandler first jammed together in the 1994 comedy “Airheads,” playing two members of a band so desperate to make it big that they hijack a radio station. Brendan Fraser is a beloved actor who seemed to be missing for a while. As can easily be found online, he wasn’t missing, he was simply working less and doing a lot of television while seemingly being blacklisted as an A-list actor. The world may seem like it's gone to hell in a handbasket these days, but one thing that's recently united society is the triumphant career revival of beloved actor Brendan Fraser, whose comeback is affectionately being hailed as "the Brenaissance."
Through the '90s and early aughts, Fraser blessed movie audiences worldwide with his magnetic onscreen presence, bringing his signature earnestness to a plethora of roles both comedic and dramatic, and cementing himself as a bonafide movie star who earned lots of money for the studios. However, after a series of unfortunate events, Fraser sadly dropped off Hollywood's A-list, and his career went painfully quiet. Thankfully, he's now back in full movie-star swing with his forthcoming critically-acclaimed turn in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale." Fraser also recently appeared in Steven Soderbergh's "No Sudden Move" and can be seen next year in Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

It's such a sad irony that Chris Farley is often remembered as a tragedy considering the hilarious human that he was. Substance abuse cut short the life of a star in his prime — and on the verge of breaking beyond the physical comedy he was known for.
After honing his craft at Chicago's historic Second City comedy group, Farley joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live" in 1990. Some of his most memorable characters included the Chicago Bears Superfan, motivational speaker Matt Foley, the host of The Chris Farley Show, a mall food court Gap Girl, and of course, a dancer auditioning for Chippendales. But by the mid-1990s, Farley had outgrown the small stage of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. After shining in bit roles in "Airheads" and "Billy Madison," Farley was ready for a starring role, playing alongside David Spade in the 1995 film "Tommy Boy." The movie became a cult classic and...

Brendan Fraser has grown accustomed to being underestimated. Until this year, he was never looked at as that kind of actor – the kind that’s considered a major contender during awards season. That’s all changing thanks to his frontrunner status for his seminal performance in “The Whale”. But the truth is that he’s been a quality actor for a long time, and if his Big Moment wasn’t necessarily inevitable, it’s perhaps overdue.

Brendan Fraser will be honored with a TIFF Tribute Award for Performance at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival’s eponymous gala fundraiser, which is set for an in-person return at Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Sunday, September 11. The award comes in recognition of Fraser’s work on Darren Aronofsky’s anticipated drama The Whale, which makes its North American premiere in Toronto after bowing in Venice.
The TIFF Tribute Award recognizing Fraser is one of two acting awards to be handed out at this year’s gala, with the other going to the ensemble of Michael Grandage’s romantic drama, My Policeman, for Amazon. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard still have some games to play. Though the NBC show has essentially been cancelled, there are still two new episodes of the Family Game Fight! TV series yet to come.
A competition series, Family Game Fight! was inspired by Bell and Shepard's antics on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The show pits the husband and wife against one another as they are “adopted” into a family of four (actual family members or groups of friends) competing in a series of fun-filled and larger-than-life games. They include "Between the Sheets," "Pie Rollers," "Sound Bites," "Taste Buds," "Air Heads," "Nosy Neighbors," "Deep Dish Dash," and "Brain Freeze." The winning family then plays a bonus game called "Spin Cycle". On a revolving platform, Bell and Shepard describe different words in various ways for the family members to...
