- [last lines]
- Donna Yaklich: The average prison sentence for a woman who kills her husband is 15 to 20 years. For a man who kills his wife, 2 to 6 years. I was sentenced to 40 years for conspiracy to commit murder. I've served 5 1/2 years, and I filed for a motion for reconsideration of my sentence, which is currently under review.
- Donna Yaklich: I need my pillow.
- Dennis Yaklich: Get out.
- Donna Yaklich: Why, are you talking to me like this?
- Dennis Yaklich: [firmer] I said, get out.
- Donna Yaklich: [Asking, with tears in her eyes] What is wrong with you, Dennis?
- Dennis Yaklich: I said, get out!
- [Throws beer can, at Donna's backside]
- Donna Yaklich: Oww!
- [in pain]
- Receptionist: [as Dennis arrives to take back Donna and Denny] Mr. Yaklich...
- Dennis Yaklich: [rudely] *Officer* Yaklich.
- Receptionist: Officer Yaklich, Donna is going to stay for a while.
- Dennis Yaklich: No she's not.
- Receptionist: She needs counceling. For that matter, you might consider counseling yourself!
- Dennis Yaklich: Listen, lady, I don't want to hear any of your psychobabble crap, all right? You find my wife and you find my son, now!
- Receptionist: You're abusing your position, officer.
- Dennis Yaklich: All right, so file a complaint. But you get them and you get them out right now, you understand me, or I'll turn this whorehouse into a parking lot.
- Receptionist: Please! We guarantee these women protection. Don't violate that trust!
- [Dennis scoffs and leaves]
- [Donna wakes up and gasps seeing Dennis standing over her]
- Dennis Yaklich: I understand you had a visit with Jerry today.
- Donna Yaklich: I just... I didn't...
- Dennis Yaklich: Tsk, tsk, tsk. You see, Donna, I consider marriage sacred. So, when you do something like talking to Jerry about our married life, it hurts me.
- Donna Yaklich: I didn't mean to say anything that would hurt you.
- Dennis Yaklich: [goes to her face] You're probably wondering if I'm going to crush your skull and squeeze right here and watch the life drain out of you. I can do that...
- Donna Yaklich: [scared] No, no...
- Dennis Yaklich: Very easily.
- Patty Yaklich: [during the murder trial, tearfully] Donna was Dennis's slave. At one point, she told me she was going to kill herself, and she just couldn't go on living anymore. She said she was scared to do anything in fear that Dennis might react. I mean, it was like walking on eggshells in that house. One day, everything was okay, and then the next day, the TV would be up too loud, and Dennis would get so mad. And she was just tired of living that way
- Public Defender: Did she seem scared or frightened?
- Patty Yaklich: Yes, she did.
- Dennis Yaklich: [after being told that Patty is pregnant] How can do you this to me? How can you betray me like this! You know how bad this is going to look for Dennis Yaklich to have a knocked-up stepdaughter, huh? Do you?
- Donna Yaklich: Dennis, please! Please, stop!
- Dennis Yaklich: God, I can't even look at her. I can't talk to her!
- Dennis Yaklich: [points at Donna] You tell her for me! You tell her!
- Donna Yaklich: Please, don't...
- Dennis Yaklich: God help me find the words. Tell her she's no good! TELL HER!
- Donna Yaklich: [scared] You're no good. You're no good.
- Dennis Yaklich: You tell her she's disgusting!
- Donna Yaklich: Please don't make me say anything!
- Dennis Yaklich: [yells at her] THIS IS YOUR FAULT! This is your fault! I put my trust in you and you let me down. Now you tell her!
- [grabs Donna and spins her to face Patty]
- Donna Yaklich: You look her in the eye and you say that she's disgusting. Say, 'Patty! You are disgusting!" ENUNCIATE!
- Donna Yaklich: [crying] Patty, you are disgusting!
- Dennis Yaklich: And must leave this house at once! SAY IT!
- Donna Yaklich: And must leave this house at once!
- Dennis Yaklich: FOREVER! Say it!
- Dennis Yaklich: Forever.
- Dennis Yaklich: Now you listen to me. I want her gone when I come back. Do you understand me?
- [slaps Donna]
- Dennis Yaklich: Do you!
- Donna Yaklich: Yes! Yes! I understand you!
- [Donna cries as Dennis leaves]
- Dennis Yaklich: And I don't want my son making cookies!
- Dennis Yaklich: [goes to Donna at the mirror after working out] Watch the mirror.
- [Dennis feels Donna's body and sniffs her and becomes aroused]
- Dennis Yaklich: God, you turn me on!
- [Dennis slowly lays Donna on the bed]
- Dennis Yaklich: You don't understand how much I love you.
- [Donna goes nervous and silent thinking of what to say]
- Donna Yaklich: I love you too, Dennis.
- Jerry: Eddie Greenwell! Get your hands up!
- Charlie Greenwell: [as he and Eddie do so, about his girlfriend] Couldn't keep her mouth shut!
- Jerry: You're under arrest for the murder of Dennis Yaklich!
- [Jerry and Mike arrest the two brothers]
- Jerry: You have the right to remain silent. If you giver up the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
- [as Eddie gets cuffed, he thinks about what Dennis told him about Donna five years ago]
- Eddie Greenwell: It was Donna!
- [Jerry and Mike go silent]
- Jerry: [takes the brothers away] Okay, let's go.
- Dennis Yaklich: [after being forced home from escaping] Do you know how bad I want to kill you?
- Donna Yaklich: Yes, I do.
- Dennis Yaklich: If you ever try and take my son away from me again, I'm gonna cut your sister Susie's throat and make you watch.
- [Donna cries]
- Dennis Yaklich: [goes closer to her] And you know what I'm gonna do to you, huh?
- Donna Yaklich: No, what are you gonna do?
- Dennis Yaklich: [whispers] I'm gonna slice you up and bury little pieces of you all over the Rockies. And guess what?
- Donna Yaklich: [cries harder] What?
- Dennis Yaklich: I'll get away with it.
- Donna Yaklich: It wouldn't be the first time, would it?
- Dennis Yaklich: [lets go of her] What's that supposed to mean?
- Donna Yaklich: You - You killed your first wife, didn't you? You killed Barbara. I saw the death certificate, Dennis. You - Patty said she was perfectly fine two hours before she died. You killed her.
- Dennis Yaklich: [smiles and chuckles sarcastically] What have we got here? Is this Detective Donna on the case now, huh?
- Donna Yaklich: [in terror] I want to die! I JUST WANT TO DIE!
- Dennis Yaklich: [mocks her] "Oh, I want to die, I just want to die!" Well, do the world a favor and PULL THE TRIGGER!
- [takes out his gun and shoves it forcibly to Donna's face]
- Dennis Yaklich: Here, take it. Take it, take it, put it up to that stupid head. No, do it right, do it right. Put it under here.
- [puts it under Donna's chin]
- Dennis Yaklich: What's the matter? You can't do it, huh?
- [Donna cries still]
- Dennis Yaklich: I can.
- [Dennis cocks his gun and points it right at Donna's face]
- Donna Yaklich: No! No! No!
- Dennis Yaklich: Here comes the pain.
- [Dennis pulls back on the trigger and the gun somehow clicks, Donna goes even more afraid]
- Dennis Yaklich: [chuckles, sarcastically grins] Oh, oops! I guess I ran out of bullets!
- Donna Yaklich: GO AWAY!
- Dennis Yaklich: I'm never going away, Donna, I love you. We're just having marital problems, that's all. Heh, heh, heh!
- Denny Yaklich - age 18: Mom. Everyone has said if you had pulled the trigger yourself, you would have walked!
- Police Officer: [Comes into the restaurant where Donna and Susie are enjoying dinner together] Donna Yaklich?
- [Shows badge]
- Police Officer: Police. You're under arrest for the murder of Dennis Yaklich.
- Susie: [Looks at Donna stunned] Murder?
- Susie: [to Dennis] This isn't over yet!
- Dennis Yaklich: [Amused] Oh, and what are you going to do? Call the police?
- Lenore Walker: [during Donna's murder trial] Clearly, Donna was caught in a cycle of marital violence and she's on her only escape as kill or be killed. I've spent many hours with Mrs. Yaklich since her arrest, and I firmly believe that she felt she was in imanite danger. Donna believed that she could not stop the violence. She reached the point where fear turns to terror. And there was a parallel in Donna's mind as to her situation and out of her husband's first wife, Barbara Yaklich. She felt that Barbara did not die by accident, and if her husband got away with it once, he could get away with it again.
- Dr. Cassover: [during Donna's murder trial] Donna Yaklich may or may not be a battered woman, for the indication that women are victims is a myth. Men get battered, too. They just have difficulty reporting it. The term Battered Wife Syndrome is nothing more than a phrase invented by Dr. Walker. I certainly don't subscribe to her methods of affixing that label to women.
- Eddie Greenwell: Man, you sure are lucky to have such a beautfiul, thoughtful wife, Dennis.
- Dennis Yaklich: Donna's a selfish, manipulating woman.
- Eddie Greenwell: [goes concerned] She don't seem that way.
- Dennis Yaklich: You don't understand women. They'll do anything they can to try and shatter your dreams, try and make you something you can never be. You know what I mean, huh?
- Eddie Greenwell: [quietly] Yeah...
- Steve: Hey, have you been training lately?
- Dennis Yaklich: Yeah, why? Can't you tell?
- Steve: Looks like you're shrinking to me.
