Over the holidays we heard from director Albert Pyun, who informed us that instead of his next release being Tales of an Ancient Empire, his long gestating follow-up to The Sword and the Sorcerer, it will be the gory and disturbing Bulletface written by Randall Fontana.
Pyun and Fontana first worked together on Hong Kong 97 back in 1994. Here's how Albert describes Bulletface, which he also promises is more sexually explicit than his other films and not for the faint of heart: [It] is a departure for me because of how gritty and hardboiled it is. The story is set along the Mexico/California Border, principally in Imperial Beach, CA. It concerns a female DEA agent, Dara Maren, who, in protecting her petty criminal younger brother, gets herself arrested and imprisoned in a nightmarish penal colony outside Tijuana. You can guess how bad it gets in there -- prison officials even harvest organs from the inmates.
