  [sees a shadowy figure smoking a pipe in his dad's upstairs office and gasps] 

  Alan Parrish : Hey!

  [bolts past Judy and Peter, up the stairs and into the office; a towering, bearded bum looks at him] 

  Alan Parrish : Sorry.

  [a dog growls at Alan and stands up on its mattress] 

  Shoe Factory Bum : Easy, girl.

  [the dog stays]

  Shoe Factory Bum : You're gonna freeze out there.

  Alan Parrish : [takes the clothes]  Thank you. Are the Parrishes still around?

  Shoe Factory Bum : I see 'em now and then.

  Alan Parrish : [delighted]  Yeah?

  Shoe Factory Bum : They're over on Adams Street.

  [Alan's smile fades]
