Family ties and deep religious faith play an emotional tug of war with issues of infidelity and self-confidence in The Baxters. Touched by an Angel star Roma Downey feels the new faith-based series, in which she stars and is executive producer, couldn’t arrive at a better time.
“At the center [of the story] is this marriage that is loving and committed, and you know, we don't always get to see that on family dramas,” Downey told MovieWeb. “Just to see marriage modeled that way — they're the glue that holds the messiness of the family together.”
Things do get messy, in fact, and early on. The first season tracks the aftermath of Baxter daughter Kari’s (Ali Cobrin) startling discovery — her professor husband, Tim (Brandon Hirsch), has been having an affair with one of his students. Based on the No.1 New York Times best-selling book series by Karen Kingsbury, a prolific author who...

At the inaugural Academy Awards in 1929, native Pennsylvanian Janet Gaynor made history as the first American-born performer to win an Oscar by taking the Best Actress prize for her body of work in “7th Heaven,” “Street Angel,” and “Sunrise.” Over the subsequent 95 years, 215 more thespians originating from the United States won the academy’s favor, meaning the country has now produced 68.1% of all individual acting Oscar recipients. Considering the last decade alone, the rate of such winners is even higher, at 70.3%.
At this point, 96.8% of American-born acting Oscar victors have hailed from one of 34 actual states. Of those constituting the remainder, three originated from the federal District of Columbia, while four were born in the territory of Puerto Rico. New York (home to 49 winners) is the most common birth state among the entire group, followed by California (34), Illinois (13), Massachusetts (11), and Pennsylvania (11).

The 1st Academy Awards ceremony took place 95 years ago, on May 16, 1929. There were only 12 categories at the inaugural Oscars, three of which were permanently discontinued the following year. Wings was the very first movie to win Best Picture, then called Outstanding Picture, at the Oscars.
12 lucky individuals and movies won the very first Oscars 95 years ago at the 1st Academy Awards. The 2024 Oscars on Sunday, March 10, 2024, are just around the corner. Richard Lewis’ career has, in some ways, always been defined by his proximity to darkness. As a stand-up comedian, he laid bare his personal struggles with drug addiction and alcoholism, pacing across the stage in his trademark all-black uniform, wringing his hands while he recounted how deeply he hated himself. (The title of his 1985 standup special? “I’m In Pain.”) And on Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which he played himself in perhaps his best known role, his health struggles became fodder for the show, with a 2005 kidney transplant inspiring a whole season arc.

Comedian Richard Lewis, who died February 27 at 76, had a 40-plus year career in film and TV, starting with Diary of a Young Comic, a 1979 TV movie in which he played a fictionalized version of himself. He went on to his own TV series Anything But Love opposite Jamie Lee Curtis, roles in 7th Heaven, Til Death, Blunt Talk and, of course, his long run on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

If you wanted to create a formula that would raise the chances of your film getting Oscar consideration, it isn't often you'd go wrong with a romantic drama. Many of the past Best Picture winners have fit nicely into that genre slot, from the high tides of Titanic to the tightly constructed exchanges of Casablanca, and even looking at past nominees will present you with a wide array of them. This is far from a recent trend, as the Oscars have seen fit to reward romantic dramas as far back as the literal inception of the ceremony, with 7th Heaven. A melodrama of the highest order, it's a perfect slice of the kind of high-stakes morality play that early cinema made its bread and butter off of. It's a film that has not only aged nicely as an engagingly told tale that helped define the word "epic," but it also...

During the Feb. 12 episode, Andrew Keegan was ready to do just that.
“You mean when I woke up one day and I was anointed a cult leader?” he asked with a laugh during the iHeart podcast. Keegan, best known for his roles in “10 Things I Hate About You,” “7th Heaven,” “Party of Five” and for being a “heartthrob” in the early aughts, went on to explain that he moved to Venice Beach in his early 20s, and “got immersed in the culture and the community.”
“There was this interesting group of hippie types, if you will, in Venice. I’m sure if you went on the Westside, there’s definitely a lot of spirituality,...

Aaron Carter rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits like "I Want Candy" and "That's How I Beat Shaq." Carter appeared in movies and TV shows, including Popstar and 7th Heaven, showcasing his talent as a musician and occasional actor. Despite personal struggles, including bankruptcy and legal issues, Carter's music and performances left a lasting impression on fans, as seen in the outpouring of support after his passing.
Teen pop sensation Aaron Carter also made time to appear in several movies and TV shows in his younger years. Aaron Carter, a fixture for many 2000s pop music fans, came on the scene in the late 1990s, opening for his older brother Nick's band, the Backstreet Boys, which led to his self-titled debut album in 1997. This was followed by Aaron's Party (Come Get It) in 2000, which is what truly rocketed him into what would tragically be short-lived stardom.

Unleashed on theaters in 1988, director Tom Holland's "Child's Play" introduced America to Chucky, a My Buddy-like doll inhabited by the soul of a foul-mouthed serial killer. Equal parts absurd and frightening, that first movie spawned six sequels, a remake, and a TV series. Of all the iconic '80s horror villains, he's the only one still written by his original creator, Don Mancini. As such, the TV series has brought back many actors and characters from throughout the franchise's history, in an increasingly complicated -- and refreshingly LGBTQ-positive -- narrative of epic proportions. A narrative that involves Devon Sawa playing multiple roles, for some reason.
Fans of the show know where some of the original film's cast members ended up, but what about the rest? Shot in Chicago, "Child's Play" made use of several local stage talents, as well as a few veteran actors and familiar faces. Can you...

Hulu is removing several classic shows from its streaming service, including Arrested Development and 90210. Some shows like the sci-fi series Dollhouse don't have another streaming platform. These shows are being removed because their licensing agreements have reached their end and Hulu has chosen not to renew them.
Several classic shows are leaving Hulu, and some don't have another streaming home. The promise of streaming, at least initially, was that it would be more convenient for the consumer. Especially as it related to television shows, the promise was that most dramas and comedies could be found on one of three platforms. New shows that debuted would exist forever, just a click away, for the cost of a subscription. But over the past few years, with disappearing shows and originals that are abruptly removed, the landscape of streaming has shifted significantly.
