Jim Parker, a four-time BAFTA-winning composer whose credits included the original House of Cards and Midsomer Murders, has died aged 88 after a long illness.
Parker’s daughter Claire Parker issued a statement earlier today confirming the news and paying tribute.
“He wore his talent lightly and had a quiet passion and great sense of humour,” she said. “His ambition was, first and foremost, for audiences to enjoy his music. He was both well-respected and well-liked within the music and television industry, writing so many memorable theme tunes, and always giving 100% commitment.”
Born in Hartlepool in 1934, Parker started his career in a Britsh army band. He subsequently composed the music for Banana Blush, an album he made in 1974 with the poet John Betjeman, before turning to TV.

Hulu is out with its list of everything that’s coming and going from the streaming service in April, which should come in handy assuming we’re all still in isolation next month due to coronavirus.
The third and final season of “Future Man,” which stars Josh Hutcherson, Eliza Coupe, and Derek Wilson, will be available on April 3.
That same day, a new episode of Hulu’s monthly episodic anthology “Into the Dark” drops. April’s installment is called “Pooka Lives,” and follows a group of thirty-something friends who create their own Creepypasta about Pooka, but don’t like what they find once the thing goes viral.

This year’s Oscar best-picture winner “Parasite” will also start streaming April 8.
Some good ones leaving in April are “My Best Friend’s Wedding” starring Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney, and “Bridget Jones’s Diary” starring Renee Zellwegger,...

If you were to ask me if I had a favorite character among all the heroic fantasy teevee shows and movies over the past five years, and damnit I wish you would, I would immediately respond “River Song.”
For those who came in late, here’s the mandatory Journalism 101 background:
River Song is an ongoing but breathtakingly occasional character in Doctor Who. A remarkably capable, strong and intelligent archaeologist/con artist/warrior-protector with a great sense of humor and about 92% of all the sexuality ever expressed in the 54-year history of the program, she has been, is, and/or will be married to the Doctor – it’s time travel, Mr. Gittes – and that poses all sorts of thrilling opportunities. It also begs the issue of “until regeneration do us part.” She’s kind of a partial Time Lord, having absorbed some of the Doctor’s DNA while being conceived in the Tardis.

Prithee, my lord, loosen our corsets and unbutton our breeches. This week has seen a new wave of period drama steam, from Natalie Dormer's BBC film The Scandalous Lady W to the furore about the 'pornographic' new adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover.
But they're hardly the first shows to bare historical breasts and bottoms. Here's our 9 favourite saucy costume dramas...
Pride and Prejudice
Ooh, Mr Darcy. We'll ease you in gently with the BBC's iconic 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries, fondly remembered for the scene in which Colin Firth's dashing hero takes a dip in the Pemberley lake and emerges to greet his unexpected guests, dripping like a dolphin in a wet T-shirt contest.
While it may have shocked your grandma, this is pretty tame stuff.
Tipping the Velvet
Classic 19th century literature isn't known for its portrayal of lesbian love but Sarah Waters set out to right this...
