Started life as BAFTA/Prix Italia nominated BBC series directed by Don Boyd
Donboyd8 March 2002
This American show started life as a seven film BBC series directed by Don Boyd called "Ruby Wax Meets...". The first 50 minute film about Imelda Marcos and shot in Manila was nominated and short-listed for a Prix Italia. The other films, all 30 minute profiles of Goldie Hawn, Burt Reynolds, Roseanne Barr,Pamela Anderson, Heidi Fleiss, Bette Midler and featuring Wax as interviewer, were transmitted on the BBC gaining audiences of between 6 and 8 million in the UK alone. The series gave Boyd, their sole director, and Clive Tulloh, their sole producer, BAFTA nominations in 1997. Transmitted at 10pm they also introduced Ruby Wax to approximately double the audience she had been hitherto used to and were transmitted all over the world but not in the United States.

The Ruby Wax Show was produced in America by Wax's company with Twentieth Century Fox Television. Boyd had no creative or financial involvement in these shows which featured re-edited material shot by Boyd for the original BBC
