The teacup held by Professor Harper (Julie Harris) is antique American china made by Stetson called American Beauty. The china was originally sold in grocery stores for pennies a piece, but is now quite valuable.
In the beginning the character Kim is wearing bluish grey sunglasses. At the end of the movie, she's wearing rose-coloured glasses- showing (metaphorically) that she is going back to her idealistic belief that she can be completely honest about everything, that 'white-lies' or not saying certain things, or 'manners' are an unnecessary burden.
