Sex & Nudity

  • We see a young boy begin to take his pants off, although we don't see anything after that (his reasoning for doing so is non-sexual).
  • It is shown that a priest is somewhat of a pedophile; he gets sexually excited around the main character (a young boy about 11 or 12), usually when the boy is speaking of his mother or something secret. In one scene, the boy starts speaking of his vision of the Virgin Mary, and we see the priest's hand move down. From his facial expressions, it is very clear that he is masturbating, although nothing else is shown. The narrator also mentions "his hand jiggling in his pocket ." Later, the priest attempts to get the boy talking about "the worst thing you've ever done," however nothing progresses from that point.

Violence & Gore

  • a few hits from people to young francie brady
  • the same boy is given two vicious beatings
  • francie shoots a woman he does not like and cuts her into pieces

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • the theme of fcancie brady's father is that he is a drinker
  • infrequent scenes of francie smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A severed head is seen briefly.
