Quotes:
Miller:
I'm telling you it was his voice I heard, he was calling to me. A young bosun named Eddie Corrick. We served on the Goliath together. When the O2 tanks ruptured, four of us made it to the lifeboat but Corrick was still on board the Goliath when the fire broke out.
[to D.J]
Miller: Have you ever seen fire in zero gravity?
[D.J shakes his head]
Miller: It's beautiful. It's like liquid it... slides all over everything. Comes up in waves. And they just kept hitting him, wave after wave. He was screaming for me to save him.

To hell and back, with a space ship!
This is one of my favorite sci-fi/horror films. Hugely underrated I think and deserves a look, definitely!
Event Horizon came up the same time "Sphere" hit the theaters. In my opinion Sphere was promising at first but came out lame, a good idea turned bad and I didn't like it at all.
Later I accidentally rented Event Horizon on VHS and I was happy I did. It wasn't hyped as Sphere was, so I didn't know what to expect.
This isn't THE BEST sci-fi/horror available but delivers the goods, I think. It seems like the audience is divided to haters and lovers.
Event Horizon is a dark and stylish mixture of Hellraiser and Solaris. No aliens here, but a haunted derelict space ship. The music fits the atmosphere perfectly, check out the banging tune in the end credits (Prodigy:Fat Of The Land/ "Funky S**t") The effects are nicely done but a bit dated considering the standards today. There's a huge attention to detail on the sets. Acting is believable, thanks to Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill. The supporting cast also fit in perfectly.
The only downside is that the theatrical release was heavily cut. The Original story included much more gory details about the spaceship and its first and second crew. The 20 (about) minutes of graphic violence was too disgusting for Paramount Pictures and the test audience, so it ended up on the cutting room floor. (Yes, I do like gore!!!)
"The Special Collector's Edition" (2Discs) has been released, just bought mine!
Here's the DVD extras:

Original Trailers
This new version has an improved soundtrack and picture quality, so forget the old original release! But be warned, this new edition isn't "the long awaited extended edition" as hyped, and this is really a let down! "The making of" offers the most interesting part of this edition, although it's mostly just interviews.
A must see for all sci-fi/horror fans. This film is entertaining, gory and scary. And yes, Paul W.S. Anderson can direct a good movie! Seguel, anyone?
