Sex & Nudity

  • There are mildly suggestive moments throughout the film, but they are brief at the very most.
  • 0:57 A man's clothes are ripped apart by sewing machines and moments later, he is seen wearing only footwear with balls of thread covering his privates. He makes his way to his office, where he finds his wife. She takes off her coat and reveals her lingerie. The two have sex which you don't see and the father's portrait shows a changed expression. In a later scene, the man confirms to his brother that they fooled around like wild animals.
  • 1:22 During an auction scene, the two main characters take seats in the audience while searching for a house mouse. The mouse makes its way up into a woman's hair and one of the main characters reaches up to try and grab the mouse, but the mouse ends up jumping and falling into another woman's dress. The second main character quickly reaches into the woman's dress to try and get the mouse (the woman makes surprised murmurs while he searches her dress) and after he finds it, the mouse begins crawling all over his body (under his tux, forcing him to jerk around uncontrollably). The other brother has his hand stuck in the bosom of the women sitting next to him and he starts feeling around with a smirk.

Violence & Gore

  • Slapstick violence abounds, but some of it borders on dark comedy. A man's hand is hit with a sledgehammer. An explosion sends a man flying out a chimney into a lake, and another man flying into a China cabinet, which falls on top of him and crushes his fingers (which leave him bloody). A man is dragged through the floor of a house (which leaves him bloodied). An offscreen encounter implies that the mouse locks the exterminator in a trunk. A man eats half a cockroach and throws it back up (graphically shown) and then it is later mentioned he died of heart failure as a result. A kitten at the pound is gassed. Another cat gets all 4 of his paws and his tail caught in mousetraps and then falls down a dumbwaiter. The brothers also get covered in mousetraps. A corpse is accidentally thrown from a casket into a manhole. The brothers get covered with sewage. A main characters eats a mouse dropping to test it. A woman throws plates at another man. A minor explosion blows a hole in the floor and sends the brothers falling into the basement. A house is flooded and sends all the occupents flying out the front door. A woman's hair is set on fire, by accident. Ernie is hit by a bus. Workers turn on their bosses and charge at them with weapons. Fianlly fed up with the mouse, Ernie pulls out a rifle and starts shooting at the mouse, and at one point aims it at Lars when he insults him. Almost all of this is played for laughs.

Profanity

  • There is a lot more language in the movie than would be thought. 1 Son of a bitch, 2 bastard's, 1 damn, 2 hells and 1 goddamn. The phrase, "See you in hell" is used. God's name is used 3 times.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Not much, although there is some wine consumption in the auction scene. a women is holding a cigarette holder with a lit cigarette in it at the auction.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Most of the mayhem and antics in the film are mainly cartoon-ish and played for laughs.
  • There are a few notable sequences in the film that may disturbing to some viewers; one involving blowing up a large section of flooring with a flea bomb (by accident).
