Kids Sci-Fi comedy series that seems destined to be sadly forgotten...
Howlin Wolf10 May 2002
I feel duty bound to write a comment for this, if only because, up until this point, nobody else has. I remember it being one of my favourite shows as a kid, with the dynamic between the two male actors being surprisingly engaging; a sort of Pre-Teen "Two Ronnies", if you will. I couldn't bear the thought that such a neat little show might otherwise pass unrecognised. Plenty of extraordinary things happen, since the 'Angelo' of the title is an alien, and there was some great slapstick!

It's a shame that nobody else seems to remember this quite as fondly as I do (at least fondly enough to deem it worthy of a few words!) Remember this: Classic T.V never dies!

Oooh, I'm off on a nostalgia 'kick' now, it's maybe time to resurrect some other underappreciated favourities of mine, like the pioneering virtual reality gameshow classic: "Knightmare"...

Mike and Angelo

Warning: Spoilers
Whenever I had CITV on, I always hoped that this programme would be shown, because when I was younger, alongside Fun House and one or two other programmes, this was one of my most favourites. It should be mentioned that the cast were originally different, the first one or two series saw the main character regenerate, like Doctor Who, and of course I watched the show with the replacement actor. So Angelo (Tim Whitnall) is the alien from outer space who came to Earth in a wardrobe like spaceship, he can walk on ceilings, and he is a bonkers inventor always creating havoc in the house. His partner and best friend throughout the show was young Mike Mason (Michael Benz), who helped in any way he could to keep Angelo out of trouble and with his ridiculous plans. Also in the show, constantly getting irritated and shouting her iconic "Angelo!" line with her Scottish accent was housekeeper Katy Andrews (Katy Murphy), who occasionally joined in their adventures as well. The show was alway inside the household, you never saw them leave and do anything outside, but it didn't matter, everything cooky and enjoyable didn't need to go anywhere else. The last two or three series saw original Mike replaced by Aunt Daphne's niece Michaela 'Mickey' Fawkes-Bentley (Gemma Gregory), and then after her there came Katy's nephew, "coincidently" named Mike (Steven Geller), but for me the way it was worked better, I only kept watching until the end because of Angelo. I may not remember many of the episodes well, but Angelo was one of my favourite hilariously mad characters on TV, I really liked the character of Katy when she got cross, I just always looked forward to what chaos would happen next, a great fun show at the time. Very good!

decent and intelligent series

I am watching this nice series as rerun. Even i am to old for this in the moments of rest i enjoy watching it. The most important thing is that the series is intelligent and does not offer negative example to children. In the same time is amusing, that amusing, that adults enjoy. My favorite episode is when Katy has problem with loan, and begins to work for car seller. Parody of wild west is very funny. In the same time episode is showing kids how careful one should be when comes to money and loans. Excellent combination of fun and amusement. Costumes are interesting to.My review from 1 to 10 is 10+. Very nice and amusing:))) Dragan

Mad & Awkward

This programme is way before my time and that the fact that CITV didn't air anymore repeats after the programme had finished it's original run (apart from repeating two episodes in part of celebrating CITV 's 30th anniversary) doesn't help in fact that this is a programme I couldn't really care less about.

The programme itself isn't a masterpiece however I'm sure this programme entertained the children and even teenagers of it's time over the course of three decades after all CITV mostly back then had about two hours of airtime (I'm not an expert and maybe CITV had differing airtimes sporadically?) however one things clear is the fact that a programming block is obviously going to have less airtime than a channel (Which what CITV is now days - and has been since 2006 - but it is expected to shut down later this year) so children or even teenagers would watch whatever they would get.

The programme itself had about 12 series running for 10/11 years and I'm surprised on the fact that CITV kept on renewing the damn thing for 12 series.

The main characters are (Or what the name of the show would suggest) - an alien taking the form of a grown man past the age of 29 and a young child or eventual teenager. The main premise of the programme is simply about the hijinks and escapades this particularly young child or teenager and this alien do together.

Given the fact that the alien resembles a grown man which spends time with a child or teenager - shouldn't have the alien been a more of paternal figure to them? I'm not against age-gap friendships but then again things would have been different if the alien had resembled a child boy of similar age to the human child character or of simply a teenager but then again this alien is far too childish and simpleminded even in the form of a grown man to be a paternal figure and I doubt the programme itself was working on making a 'paternal bond' between the two characters.

The child/teenager main character's role of the programme had 4 people permanently taking on the mantle whilst also having one (or two, as some fans may count it) temporary holder/s until a main replacement was found during the programme's lifetime. However there were only two people which donned the role of the quirky childish alien during the programmes lifetime.

The 'story' of the programme are mostly bottled and stand-alone episodes meaning that there really is no overarching storyline and many of the characters have no actual development being the exact same from their very first appearance to their last and for a programme running for twelve series - this makes for a very boring watch indeed - compared to if the programme had a narrative and an overarching storyline somewhere and (not forgetting) the development of characters too.

The programme funnily billed itself as a 'comedy-drama' during it's first two series but this was pointless when funnily enough there was far more comedy then there was of drama anyway and soon the producers of this contraption realised that and decided to make the programme more zanier and funny with each further series as time went by from then on out.

For a programme of it's time - it really didn't age well and that's coming from someone who flicked through episodes on YouTube rather then watching it in it's original run but I wouldn't be surprised if the people who did watch the programme in it's original run think the same way too.

A good amount of episodes of the programme (not all episodes of the programme have been uploaded yet) are found on YouTube - so watch some of them (maybe even all of them - if you have the time)

Brilliant!!

This show was amazing, i remember it being one of the best children's shows around, and it ran for ages. mike and angelo, where he use to climb the walls, and land himself into trouble without meaning too! i ask my friends about this program and not all of them remember it, which is weird, but it would be amazing if they brought it back!!! the show, is one of my favourite old time children's shows! I really wish they would bring it back!! I remember angelo was the alien and he kept inventing things. i think mike was American, and he had really white hair, and they had the mother who was Scottish, i think her name was rita and they would have to cover up the trouble angelo got into! please bring this show back!

i used to love this show!!! it was so funny and even though i'm now 18 i still re watch my tapes of it and laugh out loud! my faveourite episode has to be the one where angelo creates the machine to make computer games come to life and the God Thaw attacks the house. this episode also stars one of the most funny characters Brett Douglas.
