During WWII, the Three Stooges made a bunch of wartime propaganda shorts...and, in general, these are among their best films of the 1940s. I was surprised to find this Ed Brendel short, as it's also from Columbia AND is a propaganda flick...to it turns out the Stooges were not the only ones with the shorts unit making these sorts of pictures.
When the story begins, the Captain of a ship is shocked to see one of his employees (Brendel) smoking around ammunition! During their little conversation, the Captain loses control and paints Brendel's face black (yes, he's in blackface). One thing's certain...the Captain now hates Ed. Can this loser possibly gain the Captain's respect once Nazis show up and try to sabotage the ship?
There isn't a lot of fun or humor in this one. While the Stooges did propaganda films well...Brendel makes you wanna root for the Nazis! Pretty limp.
