As far as modern animated franchises go, Despicable Me is undoubtedly one of the best-known and most lucrative ones in history. It all began in 2010 and now, 14 years later, we have three main movies, two spin-off prequels, numerous shorts, and an upcoming fourth movie, Despicable Me 4, which is set to be released in theaters on July 3, 2024. Now, the premiere is not that far away, so we already know a lot about the upcoming movie, but Illumination has today blessed us with yet another trailer, which you will be able to see below!
The Despicable Me series focuses on the villain Gru and his henchmen, the Minions; Gru initially aims to become the world’s most feared villain, but his story changes as he encounters three orphan girls named Margo, Edith, and Agnes, who soon become his adopted daughters and change his plans. The Most Precious of Cargoes, the first animated feature from Oscar-winning French director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), will open this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The feature is a 2D animated adaptation of the best-selling book by French author Jean-Claude Grumberg. Set during World War II, it tells the story of a French Jewish family deported to Auschwitz. On the train to the death camp, in a desperate gesture, the father throws one of his baby twins out into the snow, where he’s discovered by a childless Polish couple living deep in the forest.
Hazanavicius presented the film as a work-in-progress at Annecy two years ago. French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant narrates the film with voice acting from Dominique Blanc, Denis Podalydès, and Grégory Gadebois. Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water) composed the score. Animation is from 3.0 Studio – formerly Prima Linea — the group behind the...

When it comes to children’s toys, one of the most popular brands is Lego. For decades, the Lego brand has given children worldwide tools to mix and match and create their own worlds and stories with their various sets. In recent years, they have partnered with multiple large licenses such as Star Wars and Marvel.
Now, in a surprise announcement Lego has revealed their latest brand partnership, that being with Universal’s animation studio Illumination. The partnership between the two companies will begin with two sets based on the upcoming Despicable Me 4 film.
The two sets are Despicable Me and Minions, which features a large Gru and four Minions, and Gru’s Family Mansion, which is a more traditional set with Gru’s house and other members of his family. Admittedly, the Gru figure looks rather nightmare-inducing.

The sequel to 2010’s legendary animated film Megamind was released recently on Peacock to negative responses and extreme criticism. Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate acted as a sequel as well as a pilot for Peacock’s Megamind Rules! TV show. However, fans of the iconic film were not happy with the resulting product, with the film scoring a lousy 0%.
The sequel has been in the making for over ten years and has infuriated fans as their time has been wasted. The film is reportedly the worst-rated film by DreamWorks Animation, who are also awaiting the release of Kung Fu Panda 4. Despite being a popular IP, the film failed to impress any of the audiences, and here are three reasons behind the failure of the sequel.
Lack of Will Farrell, Brad Pitt, and David Cross A still from Megamind

It’s been two years since “Minions: The Rise of Gru” took the summer box office by storm in 2022, but families won’t have to wait much longer for another adventure with everyone’s favorite pill-shaped heroes. “Despicable Me 4” is set to hit theaters this July, and the new trailer suggests that it’ll be another star-studded adventure featuring Gru and his Minion friends.
“Despicable Me 4” picks up after the events of “Despicable Me 3”, following Steve Carrell’s Gru and Kristen Wiig’s Lucy as their family grows with the arrival of Gru Jr. In addition to the familiar faces, the film sees Gru and his Minions face off against two new evil nemeses: Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale partner Valentina (Sofia Vergara).

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is one of four movies opening in theaters over the weekend. Which of the new releases will sink and which will swim at the box office?
Jason Momoa’s “Aquaman” sequel is expected to float to the top of charts in North America over fellow newcomers: Universal and Illumination’s animated “Migration,” Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s romantic comedy “Anyone but You” and A24’s sports drama “The Iron Claw.” But the Warner Bros. comic book installment faces choppy waters. It’s targeting a soft $35 million to $40 million in its four-day debut (including Monday’s Christmas Day), which could make it the latest catastrophe in a terrible year for superhero movies.
December releases aren’t known to generate big opening weekends and instead tend to enjoy staying power through the new year. For example, 2018’s “Aquaman” collected an unspectacular $67 million to start but powered...

Let’s-a go! “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” Universal and Illumination’s spring box office smash, is landing on Netflix in time for the holidays.
It will debut on the streaming service on Dec. 3, months after grossing $1.36 billion in global ticket sales. The animated adventure will still be available on Peacock, the platform owned by NBCUniversal, where it premiered in August. Universal struck a licensing deal to let “Mario” play on Netflix, which has far more subscribers than Peacock.
A collaboration between Universal, Illumination and Nintendo, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” became a four-quadrant hit and the first movie of the year to cross the $1 billion mark. (“Barbie” has since joined the club.) It’s the second-highest-grossing movie of the year behind “Barbie” ($1.44 billion) as well as the most successful video game adaptation of all time. It’s also the biggest movie ever from Illumination, the animation empire behind “Despicable Me” and its “Minion” spinoffs,...

Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) was always sort of a standout in the Avengers. It wasn't always in the best way. Sure, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) didn't have powers either, but he did have his Iron Man suit and a whole lot of money. The unpowered Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) had intense (and cruel) training as an assassin. Clint had ... skill with a weapon that really hit its peak usage in Europe in the 16 century. Of course, he's amazing at archery, and the trick arrows he's got are pretty darn useful. Still, it sort of left him as the least-remembered Avenger, if not forgotten completely.
I will freely admit that Hawkeye was my least favorite Avenger until I watched the 2021 Disney+ "Hawkeye" series. Now I love him, and he's my favorite, and that may be the single Marvel Cinematic Universe series that I'd rewatch. I love him, his family,...

The Universal Orlando Resort theme park has added a new banana-loving attraction: Minion Land. The destination off the animation-studio-themed Illumination Avenue officially opened Friday.
The “Minions”-themed section will include the theme park’s newest attraction, Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast. The shooter game lets guests of all ages take aim at some of the biggest villains from the “Despicable Me” franchise as they see if they have what it takes to become a supervillainous member of the Vicious 6 themselves.
The ride marks Universal Orlando’s first phone-connected gameplay attraction. Using the park’s app, guests can sync their blasters to their phones. That lets them track their scores, start special missions in the attraction, earn digital collectibles and unlock other perks, including special blasts for their blasters.
Minion Land also adds new dining options, including the Minion Cafe; the walk-up location Pop-a-Nana, which features banana-flavored popcorn; and the walk-up dessert shop Freeze Ray Pops.

Disney’s perennial hit “Frozen” is saying “let it go” to its spot as the second-biggest animated film in history. Over the weekend, Universal’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” hit $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, enough to bump the original adventures of royal sisters Anna and Elsa ($1.28 billion) to the No. 3 spot.
But the kingdom of Arendelle still reigns supreme in terms of all things computer-generated. The sequel “Frozen II” was even bigger than the original and stands as the highest-grossing animated movie of all-time with a mighty $1.45 billion.
A collaboration between Universal, Illumination and Nintendo, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has resonated with audiences across the globe, generating $566 million domestically and $733.9 million internationally. So far, it’s the first and only movie of the year to cross the coveted $1 billion milestone.
