In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree (1930)
*** (out of 4)
The Fleischer Studio produced a number of these animated short films where the "bouncing ball" would have audience members singing together. The plot involves a mouse like creature (ripping off Disney?) who is trying to have lunch. We then get to his sweetheart, the bouncing ball song and a little more action at the end of the film. If you're familiar with these "bouncing ball" shorts then you know that the story really wasn't all that important as it was just used to reach the song. The song in question here was pretty good and I thought the animation was also quite good, which makes this one of the better shorts of its type. Fans of these will enjoy it and if you're new to them then this would be a good place to start.
