Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly taking the lead with royal fans, leaving King Charles in the dust. A commentator claims Kate and William’s actions “smell suspiciously like a power play.” Most apparent, following Charles’ coronation, the couple took center stage and used their skyrocketing popularity to their advantage.

The theme of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, ‘United by Music,’ announced both the annual musical extravaganza’s all-embracing intentions and its status as a joint endeavor. With 2022 winners Ukraine unable to host in Kyiv due to the war, the U.K. – last year’s runners-up, thanks to Sam Ryder’s soaring “Space Man” – stepped in to reinstall this ever more spectacular circus (along with multiple Ukrainian creative personnel) in Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles. A declaration that this was to be the glitziest of collabs was served via a prologue that paired Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, reworking last year’s winning entry “Stefania”, with the Princess of Wales, apparently providing piano accompaniment from within Windsor Castle. Soft power-a-go-go.
There was no President Zelenskyy address – ruled unduly political by the Eurovision mandarins, a decision that felt questionable even before Ukraine’s 2023 entry, Tvorchi’s “Heart of Steel,” implored “don’t...

It’s two minutes into the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 and I already have chills. I’m watching something a lot of British people thought we’d never see: a Eurovision hosted in the U.K. After years of abysmal performances and frustration, the U.K. finally changed the narrative last year, finishing in second place behind Ukraine. Because of Russia’s invasion of their country, Ukraine is unable to host, so the northern English city of Liverpool has stepped up to host on their behalf. The show was opened by Kalush Orchestra,...

After King Charles and Queen Camilla’s video cameo during the first semi-final of the 2023 Eurovision, the Saturday grand final featured another royal appearance during the epic performance of last year’s winning song, “Stefania,” by Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, which opened the show.
The band was joined by a slew of famous musicians, along with Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales played the piano for a few bars of the song, along with famous composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who did the same.
Other famous faces who made cameos in the performance included Britain’s Sam Ryder, the runner-up at the 2022 Eurovision with “Rocket Man,” which allowed the UK to host this year’s final on behalf of war-ravaged Ukraine, as well as Ms Banks and Joss Stone.
Co-hosted by Ted Lasso‘s Hannah Waddingham, the Eurovision final streams on Peacock in the US.

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, made a surprise appearance during the opening of the Eurovision Song Contest’s grand final on Saturday evening alongside Andrew Lloyd-Webber, rapper Ms Banks and last year’s Eurovision winners Kalush Orchestra, who hail from Ukraine.
The princess, who is married to Britain’s Prince William, appeared in a pre-recorded clip playing an instrumental version of Kalush Orchestra’s winning song “Stefania” on the piano, which she recorded in the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle earlier this month.
The clip was part of a montage of different artists – including Lloyd-Webber and Ms Banks – who performed a version of the song alongside Kalush Orchestra themselves. Also featuring in the line-up were last year’s runner-up Sam Ryder, Ballet Black, Bolt Strings, and Joss Stone.
Catherine’s instrumental version was arranged by Joe Price and Kojo Samuel.
