Lavish picnics as illustrated here would soon be replaced with mandatory rationing to support the war effort along with sight gags and in jokes about it. And the end credits show the Columbia torch bearer draped in a U.S. flag, though that detail might have been added later.
The crow bears a resemblance to future Terrytoons characters, Heckle and Jeckle. The wisecracking magpies first appeared in 1946.
