A well-done provocative documentary
calpree23 February 1999
The film presents the story of real-life American cowboy Gene Mikulenka as he prepares to compete in the International gay Rodeo finals in Albuquerque New Mexico. Along the way the cowboy breaks a leg, has a favorite horse die, and proposes marriage to his significant other. Top-notch editing, good pacing and story-telling through events mark this very well-done documentary which presents side of gay life that is seldom featured on film or television. Worth seeing. Has won a number of prizes in film festivals around the USA. Was shown in London, Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore, Houston (where I saw the premiere), Austin, and other locations.
