Thanks to the St Louis Video Society and their tireless efforts to unearth the finest independent cinema from our region, we have another couple of gems for you. Eric Stanze is, as far as I can tell, still living in the St Louis area and is still very much involved in the business – he edits documentaries for blu-rays, and also does 2nd unit directing for some fairly mainstream movies; but it’s his 25 years of making low-budget horror that we’re interested in here.
He’s achieved some notoriety in his career for horror movies like “Scrapbook” and “Ice From The Sun”, chock full of unusual imagery and ultra-violence, movies that even have the luxury of their own IMDb pages. But where we’re going we don’t need IMDb or, indeed, any other record of their existence (they’re not even listed on Stanze’s own site anymore,...

Eric Stanze is someone that I have known for some time now, maybe almost a decade. He has always been someone I have looked up to when it comes to independent filmmaking. The Scare Game, The Fine Art and Savage Harvest were the first truly independent films I rented on VHS. Stanze’s films introduced me to the world of B-Movie.com which was run by Salt City Home Video, a company that is still in business today under Sub Rosa Studios, which left quite an impression with me in my formative teenage years as a budding horror film fiend.
In this day & age, independent genre films seem to be getting more buzz than what you see at the mulitplex. This is good news for Eric as he has worked very hard for his art and the time is now for him to benefit from it. This is just my...

So there are two movements peacefully coexisting within the horror community regarding the quality of video you’re watching at home on your oversized television screen. The first movement involves a thing called a “blu ray” (not a death ray so don’t feel threatened by it). It provides beautiful high defintion picture, crystal audio, plenty of space for rad extra features, usually, more special features than your brain has room for. On the other side of the spectrum, there’s shot-on-video movies. By shot-on-video or Sov for short we mean movies that are shot on or made to look like they’ve been shot on camcorders on VHS tape or other similar medium. I believe the word you’re looking for is dichotomy or maybe something more philosophical like yin and yang. Today we’re here to talk about the Sov varietal with which you may be slightly unfamiliar...

Low budget New Jersey filmmaker and musician Jimmy Creamer (better known in some quarters as ScreamerClauz), known for his experimental videos and animated shorts that combine some of the strangest computer graphic effects and weird music, brings us a feature film that uses all elements from his shorts and music videos by using creative computer effects and incorporating them into a live action film with sick gore and make-up effects. All these elements combined give us what is quite possibly the best experimental mindfuck done on a miniscule budget since Eric Stanze’s Ice From the Sun and Andy Copp’s The Mutilation Man.
