When the family secret that unravels towards the end of Kapoor & Sons makes it seem that things will fall apart and the centre will not hold, director Shakun Batra manages to make the loose ends come together in a messy kind of way that is so integral to the way families are. Never one. Ever always fun. All tangled in inter-personal relations, governed by emotions that they seldom understand. So who are we to judge them?
It was Leo Tolstoy who said it. “All happy families are alike. Each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” The family in Kapoor & Sons, played with magnificent eloquence by actors who know their job, is happy on the surface. But scratch the polished exterior, and you get frightening fissures.
It is up to the outsider who peers into the family scene to make some sense of what lies beneath.
And this Kapoor family – my God!

Even though Bollywood prefers thumping music these days, there is one person who will always be remembered for his simplicity and his undying passion towards his music... the music master Ravindra Jain. The sad news is that Jain is no longer with us as he set for heavenly abode today. Recently, he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital due to his bad health (urinary infection causing a problem in his kidney as per reports). The irony of his life was that despite being born blind, his music served as an eye opener to many. He never let his blindness handicap his creativity in any manner. His work (read 'gems') can be heard and felt in films like Insaf ka Tarazu, Raja Harishchandra, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, Chitchor and many others. We at Bollywood Hungama offer our heartfelt condolence to his family and pray that the departed soul rests in eternal peace.

Desperate for a directorial hit since the 1999 Aishwarya Rai-starrer Taal, Bollywood’s original ‘showman’ Subhash Ghai will be back to film direction with a multi-starrer this year.
After the Anil Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai starrer Taal, all his directorial ventures – Yaadein, Kisna: The Warrior Poet, Black & White and Yuvvraaj - have bombed at the box-office despite having a formidable casting.
“That is past now, I have a lot of hopes riding on this new film,” Ghai said, who runs the film production and distribution company Mukta Arts.
“Art and commerce – both are involved when I think of making a film. If the film is too arty and cannot be made for the general audience, then I have to think twice,” he said when asked about what kind of a film he is about to direct.
A member of the Kaanchi team tells us, “It was a very emotional moment for Subhashji.
