New Delhi, May 1 (Ians) More than three decades before Aamir Khan’s train stunt in “Ghulam” (1998), this actor, renowned for his natural performances, had already done such a hazardous exploit, not just a daredevil challenge on the screen, but to inject reality into the scene and save the filmmaker the “bother of back projection”.
Balraj Sahni also involved Meena Kumari in his risky ruse in “Pinjre ke Panchhi” (1966), which — in another strange resemblance with Aamir’s film — was shot at Khandala. The scene had her walking on the rail tracks in a bid to commit suicide, even as he ran after her and managed to pull her aside from the rushing train at the last minute.
The filmmaker only wanted shots of him running after her and pulling her away; those of the were to be juxtapositioned. Sahni, however, knew that a train would pass the spot soon, and if they moved fast,...

It wasn't meant to be out. At least not yet. Chinese actress Zhu Zhu prematurely announced on a social network her presence in Kabir Khan's new film Tubelight which is currently being shot in Ladakh. Salman Khan Productions who are the co-producers of Tubelight were horrified by the Chinese actress' over-enthusiasm. The picture was hastily taken off the internet. However by then the information that she was Salman's love interest in Tubelight had already gone viral. Much to the annoyance of Salman and his team. Says a source close to the project, "They wanted to introduce her properly after the current shooting in Ladakh which goes on for another fortnight. Zhu Zhu was immediately asked to remove her picture with Salman in Ladakh which she had so happily and innocently posted. In her defence, she didn't mean to jump protocol because she didn't know what the protocol was." Incidentally...

Late filmmaker Chetan Anand's classic of 60s, Haqeeqat is being re-released in colour by his son Ketan Anand. Though there is a very small market or less demand of colourized films, Ketan feels Haqeeqat has a huge canvass and with right marketing the film will gain footfalls in theatres when it releases. "There is not much demand of colorized films as yet because after Mughal-e-azam no other film, which was colorized, has commercially done well. However, Haqeeqat is a film tha...

January 26 is three days away. My I-love-my-India feelings are running high, and being ‘poori filmi’ my thoughts inevitably race towards the movies. There’s one in particular, a story of love, loneliness and loss, inspired by a border skirmish that took place in 1962 when Chinese premier, Zhou-en-Hai, was promoting ‘Hindi-Chini bhai bhai’ in Delhi, with our then Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. That was the year of the Black Diwali when a lot of ‘jawans’ died fighting, leaving their families bereft. Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat, touted as India’s first ‘real’ war movie, was a tribute to these unsung heroes. Dying ...
